Chapter 136: +Chapter 136+

Caspian barely started to doze off before he was getting a new visitor.

He relaxed visibly when he saw that it was just Jael, getting up on his knees as the Beta walked in looking rather disheveled.

"Are you alright?" Jael asked.

"You took the words right out of my mouth," Caspian looked him over with concern, "Did you get in a fight?"

Jael sat down on the edge of the bed with a heavy sigh of relief, "Pretty much."

"Well, I’m fine, did you win?" Caspian said lightly, happy to have a conversation that wasn’t emotionally charged.

Jael went quiet at that, making him go on high alert. The Beta was completely unharmed, it was more like he was in a tussle than an actual fight.

"Do you want to leave?" The Beta asked instead, completely flipping the conversation on its side.

Caspian thought about it, although he already knew the answer.

He was taken back to when he was first asked that by Asher, things had gotten far more complicated, and Asher still couldn’t be a worse choice for him.

"I don’t."

Jael didn’t even blink at this response, unsurprised. "Because this would have been the perfect time to go off the radar."

Caspian looked over at that, "Why?"

"Asher’s in rut."

Caspian eyes went wide in surprise, the pieces falling in place. Why Jael looked disheveled, and why he was worried about him.

"Is he okay?" He asked earnestly, completely forgetting about the argument they just had.

Jael’s expression was grim, "He’ll live," He said vaguely, and he wasn’t wrong.

It would be a hellish couple of days for Asher but the Alpha would be fine.

He knew that Asher didn’t stop taking medications to suppress his rut so this was happening despite that.

Having Caspian nearby but not with him couldn’t be great for the Alpha as well but he had no plans of putting the Omega in danger like that.

And even if he did have plans like that, Asher would actually strip his skin off his body if he tried it.

"I want to see him," Caspian suddenly blurted out, his words resolute.

Jael stared at him in disbelief, "What?"

"Locking me up might have been because of his rut coming on," Caspian explained a little too eagerly, quick to jump on a reason to excuse Asher’s recent odd behavior.

Jael wasn’t impressed, "Maybe, but I’m not letting you see him."

"But I’m sure you tied him down," Caspian crawled closer in his eagerness.

Jael did, but yet he planned to spend the night camped in here with Caspian.

And that was because even he didn’t know the full extent of his Mafia King’s strength.

Asher might be sitting pretty right now, but he didn’t trust his bonds enough to keep him tied down if Caspian showed up.

"He’s broken through them once to get to you," He said bluntly, "I’m not taking that risk."

"Then could we maybe invest in stronger chains or something," Caspian said casually like they weren’t talking about Asher here.

Jael couldn’t dispute that, they could certainly get reinforced chains, stronger supports, the works.

"You know, sometimes I wish you would give up on him," Jael said quietly.

"So you’re going to better hold him down so I can see him?" Caspian asked slyly.

Jael scratched his hair, it wasn’t that he was trying to keep them apart, he just didn’t like the odds they were presented with.

If a single thing went wrong, Caspian would be gravely hurt or worse, and Asher wouldn’t survive doing that to him.

"But you have to promise me that if things start to go south, you’ll leave the mansion." Jael said gravely.

Caspian hesitated at that, "For good?"

The devastation in those blue eyes made Jael soften up, "No, just until his rut is over."

Caspian nodded at that, his expression serious. "Yeah, I can do that."

"Alright, sit tight here for a bit." Jael got to his feet and started for the door.

Being locked inside didn’t surprise him this time, because he knew that it wasn’t to keep him in, but to keep Asher out.

Caspian got off the bed and paced for a bit, worried, all of his anger and frustration towards the Alpha long gone.

He also felt a bit of guilt, because he was the reason Asher was in rut.

If he looked at it that way, he could even understand and forgive the physical distance between them.

Asher no longer spending time with him and not sleeping with him, made more sense.

But he was still upset that the Alpha didn’t trust him to be alright even if he was a little rough with him.

He glanced over at the door ever so often as he paced, wondering what was going on.

Caspian wasn’t sure what he intended to do when he saw Asher but he just needed to confirm for himself that the Alpha was okay.

Pacing anxiously was enough to get his temperature up, and soon he was too hot for his cozy sweater, so he took it off.

Underneath was a little black top, and he tugged it down because taking the sweater off made it ruck up.

With how long it took Jael to return, he had to sit to wait for him, his legs getting tired of pacing.

The Beta returned in under two hours, Caspian shooting to his feet when there was a quiet knock on the door.

He walked over when Jael stood at the door, relieved that his request wouldn’t be turned down.

Jael paused for a moment too long, looking not at all on board with the idea. "Come with me." He said reluctantly, leading the way.

"How’s he doing?" Caspian asked as he stepped out of the room, startled to see a small crowd of guards outside the bedroom door.

Wasn’t that a little too excessive?

"You’ll see in a moment," Jael said vaguely.

Caspian didn’t like the sound of that, eager to see Asher now.

He tried not to ask too many questions, painfully aware of how much Jael would rather not do this.
