Chapter 131: +Chapter 131+
Jael doubted it would do that, Caspian didn’t do very well with being trapped. Taking his freedom from him was the quickest way to lose him.
"He’ll hate you," He said bluntly, knowing that he needed to nip whatever this in the bud.
Asher flinched at that, "A small price to pay for his safety."
Jael scratched his head, Asher’s head was hard as shit, the Alpha wasn’t even listening.
"He won’t agree to it," He weakly argued.
"I’ll find a way to convince him." Asher said self-confidently.
"Like your dad did with your mom?" Jael said quietly, using his ace card that he would rather not use.
Old hurt bled into Asher’s eyes at that, "I’ll never be Gage."
Jael just sighed at the passionate declaration. Asher saying that didn’t change the fact that he was doing the exact same thing his dad did.
They might have different reasons but ultimately their actions were similar.
Gage had kept Layla captive because he couldn’t let her go, and Asher was doing the same because he wanted to keep Caspian safe.
The similarity between them was that they never fucking listened.
"Why don’t you think this over for a few more days? And maybe discuss it with Caspian." Jael tried to placate him, and diffuse the rapidly escalating situation.
"Right." Asher said shortly ending the conversation.
Jael couldn’t help but feel like that wasn’t the end at all, but it wasn’t his place to tell Caspian and Asher wasn’t listening.
He kept a close eye on Asher, watching the day come to an end without Asher making a move to call it a day.
"Not having dinner with Caspian?" He bluntly asked as the sun set outside the window.
Regardless of Asher’s response, Jael planned to get in a car and go eat with Caspian.
He was relieved when Asher agreed to, it meant that, he might still be able to interfere and stop Asher from doing something so fucking stupid.
For the first time when it was just the two of them in a car, Jael put up the partition, not trusting himself not to say something to Asher that would set the Alpha off.

Back in the mansion, Caspian had long forgotten about the unfortunate encounter at the store.
He had neatly stored away his new outfits, wondering if he would be able to get Asher to go swimming with him.
The Mafia King was very busy though... he doubted it.
When it was dinner time, he made his way to the dining room, sitting alone at the table waiting.
They had never been late to dinner before, so perhaps there was a delay.
He knew they were both strong so they were fine, just busy.
Caspian knew that he should eat before the food cooled down but he found himself staring blankly at it until the door swung open.
He straightened up at that, a smile on his face as he hastily reached for a fork.
"Any later and I would have eaten your shares too," He teased half-heartedly.
"That’s greedy even for you," Jael was the only one to tease back.
The air in the dining room was tense, the casual conversation they tried to hold drying out fairly quickly.
Although Caspian told himself that Asher was too busy to go swimming, he found himself blurting it out to Asher regardless.
The Mafia King hadn’t said a single word since he walked into the dining room, and often Caspian forgot just how intimidating Asher was until he was reminded in moments like this.
"I was thinking of going swimming tomorrow," He tried to say lightly but he was too nervous, "That was even why I went shopping..."
Caspian pushed his food around on his plate as he spoke, barely eating.
He felt like a spoiled mistress, and he didn’t want to be one but it seemed like that was the only time Asher paid attention to him.
"Y-You’re probably busy but it’d be nice to go swimming together..."
When did it get so difficult to talk to Asher? Was it when he failed to stop the Alpha from putting up walls? Or was it long before that?
"You’re right..." Asher spoke, looking thoughtful. "I’ll be busy."
Caspian blinked rapidly at that, feeling like a rock had dropped to the bottom of his stomach. "R-Right."
"But you can go swimming," He allowed generously.
That had never been Caspian’s concern, he knew that Asher was a little too overprotective but he had never been worried that he wouldn’t be allowed to go swimming.
If anything, he had been more worried about Asher making a ridiculous purchase...
But...
Caspian was always quick to say that he didn’t mind Asher’s position, but could he keep saying that if this was how things were to continue?
He tried not to think too hard about Jael insinuating that Asher could technically do whatever he wanted, so he was choosing not to spend time with him because he didn’t want to.
Asher’s phone rang at that point and he excused himself to take it.
Caspian watched him go with wide eyes, forcing a smile when he caught Jael’s eyes on him.
"I should probably go too," Jael said instead, and Caspian noted for the first time that he hadn’t even picked up a utensil.
"Keep an eye on him, please."
Jael’s locked his jaw at the request, that was really all he could do. "Will do. Make sure you eat." He tagged on as he headed for the door.
Caspian hadn’t asked that because he was worried about Asher’s safety, he... he was scared about something else.
He stared down at his plate, he wasn’t hungry, far from it, but he stuffed down food anyway.
He finished dinner alone, and watched the clock count the seconds for hours, yet, there was still no sign of Asher.
Caspian got on the bed, laying on Asher’s side of the bed. The scent of artificial cleaners made his eyes sting, he missed Asher’s scent on the sheets.
He gave up on waiting and tried to sleep, knowing that regardless of what he did, nothing would change, Asher wouldn’t return.
