Chapter 95: Chapter 94. Entrapment
Mason watched Sarah’s back as she followed the chairman of Mirae until his vision was covered by a passing waiter and a group of conversing people. His curled fists had been trembling for a while from how much he clenched them to manage his emotions.
No, he couldn’t do that--couldn’t just snatch her away from the host and damage his image.
Why?! Why were there so many pests around his Sarah? It was bad enough that she seemed to be so infatuated with that bodyguard of hers, but now he had to be worried about a random guy the third wife set for Sarah and that damn Kang Daniel.
The random guy was easy to thwart since it didn’t seem like Sarah was serious about him and she only did it to avoid any more blind dates Mina would throw at her. The bodyguard was a bit worrisome, but Mason already found a way to take care of him.
The most troubling was, in the end, Daniel.
No matter how much Mason disliked the man--who was also an heir in the same generation as him--he couldn’t help but admit that Daniel had it much better than him. Be it achievement or wealth, Daniel ranked higher than him.
That was why he let Sarah go on the blind date and didn’t stop Ruby from spreading all kinds of rumors about Sarah in the Circle. He thought it would help separate Daniel from Sarah.
But what was this? Not only the man was still cordial with Sarah, but he even gave her an invitation. And then, the chairman of Mirae himself came to talk to her? No doubt the news would immediately spread and reach their father soon.
And once Lee Hyuk knew? He would push the relationship harder than anyone, since it was the most beneficial thing Sarah could do for the family.
Damn it! Mason hissed and aggressively snatched a glass of wine from a passing waiter, making the man wobble and almost drop the tray. Naturally, Mason didn’t care about a mere waiter and just walked away in the opposite direction of where Sarah went while drinking his wine in anger.
And then paused.
His eyes found two familiar figures walking toward the side door leading to the park. It was hard not to spot the aunt, who was looking all sparkly from her gown to her accessories. She was dragging someone by their elbow--someone even easier to spot.
The man who had been staying beside Sarah like a leech.
Mason’s deep furrowed brows eased up gradually as his lips curled. With an almost empty glass of wine in his hand, Mason went to another set of stairs that did not connect to the second-floor gallery. Instead, it led to a hallway with restrooms and conference rooms on either side.
Remembering what the aunt told him, Mason opened one of the conference rooms and crossed the empty space until he reached the balcony. Quietly, he opened the balcony door and stepped onto the patio, looking down the park.
There, just as planned, he could see the aunt dragging Sarah’s bodyguard. His expression was a mix of tension and annoyance, like someone trying to hide his reluctance to follow the woman who was probably his mother’s age.
That expression gradually shifted into stronger tension as the pair approached someone who was looking at his watch with an impatient face. Mason fished out his phone as the person looked up upon hearing the approaching footsteps.
"You’re late, Madam--"
The man spoke and paused, his expression turned as stiff as the young man that the madam brought. They had never met each other before, but the recognition was instant.
After all, except for the striking grey eyes, the young man looked more like him than any of his existing children.

Sarah pursed her lips, irritation clear across her face.
In the end, she couldn’t find Hajin in the hall, and he didn’t pick up her call. When she checked through the tracker she put in Hajin’s collar, it was still blinking within the building, along with the bodyguard’s heart rate.
So, the man was still around--she just couldn’t spot him. She ended up following Kang Jun around until people started to ask for an audience with him, and she decided to just stay in the corner and eat her fill.
It wasn’t until a celebrity MC got up the stage and the main event started did she felt her bodyguard’s presence.
"Did you wait for me, Master?" a soft whisper came beside her, who was watching the stage from the back while leaning against one of the pillars.
"Isn’t that obvious?" Sarah glanced sharply at the man, her irritation slipped through the hissing sound behind her teeth. "Where were you?"
"Looking for all kinds of drinks, as you ordered me to," Hajin replied with a shrug, before jutting his lower lip like a sulky child. "My master is so cruel...I had to go to the kitchen and take everything I could, but neither you nor the bas--person--who should be drinking them were around, so I went around the park to look for you."
Sarah raised her brows. "Outside? Why?"
"I thought you were looking for fresh air," Hajin said, glancing toward the side door leading to the park. Indeed, it felt like something Sarah would do after spending some time in a crowd. But Sarah was also looking for Hajin inside the hall, so they ended up missing each other. Hajin sighed heavily while adding. "And then I got caught by your aunt."
"Oh..." Sarah blinked, feeling guilty all of a sudden. Since they still didn’t have anything to incite the aunt, Hajib would have to ’entertain’ her with nothing but bullshit. "I was with Kang Jun-ssi earlier, but...didn’t you see your message?"
Raising his brows, Hajin took out his phone from his inner pocket, only for them to see its black screen. The phone refused to light up even when Hajin pressed the button. "Ah..."
"You didn’t charge your phone?" Sarah arched her brow.
Hajin put his phone back in his pocket and shrugged. "I never used it since we were always together."
There was no one for him to contact unless it was something regarding Sarah. In that case, they usually used Sarah’s phones--whichever it was. Funnily enough, he was always ready with a charger for Sarah’s phone, but not for his own.
Not that they would have a chance to charge their phone in the middle of the party. In the first place, they never planned to get separated from each other.
"Right," Sarah sighed. "Ugh...we shouldn’t get too far away from each other again."
"I never did, you know?" Hajin tilted his head. "You were the one who--"
"I know, I know--" Sarah rolled her eyes, before tapping the bodyguard’s bowed lips apologetically. "Don’t sulk. You need to mind your expression."
Hajin leaned into the tapping fingers, placing his hand against the pillar. "No one is looking this way," he whispered.
Indeed; as the host was making the big announcement and the event reached its peak, everyone had their eyes and attention on the stage. No one was hanging out in the back trying to get away from the party with a very expensive invitation.
Still, Sarah didn’t want to be complacent again.
"We never know," she said. "So behave properly."
"Hmm..."
Dejectedly, Hajin put his arm down and returned to his stoic bodyguard persona, guarding his master’s side at all times until the peak of the party passed and they could finally go home. His eyes, as if avoiding any other spots in the grand hall, were kept on Sarah until the end. When his master finally told him they could leave, he almost exhaled in relief, eagerly going to the car valet.
Sarah fought against her desire to take off her stiletto once they were in the car and exhaled slowly, feeling glad that the event was over with a relatively good result.
"Haa...I want to eat some ramyeon," she muttered as they walked from the parking lot to the annex--before adding sharply after catching the bodyguard’s eyes. "A real ramyeon."
Hajin smirked. "I didn’t say anything."
"Your eyes did."
"What did it say?" Hajin tilted his head, and Sarah pushed the approaching face away.
"Shut up!" Sarah turned her face away to hide the burst of pink on her cheek. "Just make me some."
Hajin chuckled for a few seconds before sighing. "Does it need to be ramyeon? I’ll make you something better."
"I’m hungry now, and I don’t want anything complica--wait," Sarah stopped in her tracks and frowned. "Why is the annex so dark?"
They always lit up the surrounding light when they were out, so even if the rooms were dark, the annex itself shouldn’t be. The porch, the sides, the kitchen doors, and the gardens should be bright enough.
And yet, none of them was lit.
Holding Sarah’s hand in reflex, Hajin moved toward the building carefully. He was the one who took care of the electricity, so he knew very well that the light should be on. Checking the door, however, there was no sign of forced entry. The mark he left was still in place, so there was no usage of the master key either.
He didn’t want to leave Sarah alone in the dark, so he brought her to the back and checked the breakers with the girl’s phone’s flashlight. Curiously, he found out a cable was frayed.
"Seemed like an electrical failure," he said briefly. The electrical system of the annex was separate from the main house and the other building, so the staff probably had no idea.
"What? Since when? Wait--" Sarah clasped her cheeks, eyes widened in panic. "What about the fridge? What about the stove?!"
"Hmm..." they had been away for a few days, so there was no telling how long the annex had been left with no power. "Do you mind a plain cup ramyeon?"
Sarah looked absolutely devastated. "B-but...no egg?"
"Or we can have other kinds of ram--okay, okay, let’s go to the main house’s kitchen," Hajin laughed while catching the hands that were brutally hitting his shoulder in annoyance.
Sighing heavily, Sarah trudged toward the main house while glancing back at their dark annex. What a shitty timing. Was it accidental? Was it intentional? She had no idea. But...
