Chapter 111: Chapter 110. All’s Fair In Love And War
"That’s natural," Sarah stopped her crawl and carefully crept to the edge of the fence, cautiously checked the surroundings before raising her gun and aiming. "She must have come thinking she would be able to hand in her resignation the next day."
[Yeah; she was so distraught that she didn’t even question...haa...why we wanted her to spy around and steal the company’s important documents] Austin continued, sounding out of breath amidst the rustling of the grass. [At any rate, she calmed down when we offered triple her current salary and promised her we would pull her away if the advances got escalated--aaack! Fuck--hey, how can you shoot someone in the middle of reporting!]
Sarah chuckled and immediately dashed to another wall, rolling behind a large boulder before taking a breath. "Your report is ending anyway," she smirked, knowing that Sunny had accepted the offer in the end.
Besides, war is war.
"Finish him off, Suoh."
[Wait, Noona--Sua is shooting at me]
[This is why an open channel is fun!]
Sarah pressed her lips as the twins bickered and shot at each other somewhere in the middle, keeping herself from laughing and being exposed.
But, yeah...it was fun.
True to her words, Sarah invited the twins to hang out--along with Austin, Sol, and Little Bird. Rather than going to a cafe or a private room in a restaurant like normal, they rented out a whole paintball arena for their party.
Was it because Satah was still salty about her loss against Hajin in the arcade? Maybe. Who knows?
Dividing the team into two, Sarah teamed up with Suoh and Sol, while Hajin got Austin and Sua. Little Bird, despite her excitement of taking part in the gathering, had no physical capacity to join in the fray, so she just cheered them up from the observatory.
[Get over here, Austin]
Sarah heard Hajin’s dry voice on her headphones. The team might be equally three vs three with a girl on each side, but truthfully, Austin was just a burden and Sua only cared about shooting her twin as if she had been piling grudges from the womb.
But then again, Hajin was a former Aegis’s top agent, so a handicap was necessary.
"Sol," Sarah ordered through the earphone, and after a single sound of shot later, Austin groaned in frustration as his health point indicator beeped, telling them that he ’died’.
[Oh, come on!] Austin protested about being targeted from the start.
But what could they do--targeting Hajin?
[Oh, whatever--I’m going to accompany the little traitor]
[W-welcome!]
Little Bird giggled from the observatory. She might be out of the field, but she had been telling Sarah about the other’s positions--hence Austin calling her a traitor. But, hey--they were facing a former agent.
[Do you think this CEO guy could give us something more?] Sua took a break from barraging her twin since she couldn’t see him anymore. [That Ethan guy is so useless]
[No matter what we did, he kept saying he didn’t know anything] Suoh added. [Seems like he really was only used for that one thing--providing Sarah Noona’s schedule]
[In that case, there’s no point keeping him in the dungeon anymore, is there?] Sol said--from the grunt and the rustling sound, it seemed like he was in the middle of crawling low to the ground. [It’s such a drag having someone take care of his meal and whatnot]
"Hmm..."
Sarah had planned to keep Ethan there until everything resolved and then let the man go. It wasn’t like Ethan could say anything about his confinement without talking about his own crime anyway. But, then...it also felt annoying to spend her money to rent the dungeon and feed the man. Besides, the plan was based on her sentiment before the meeting, where she was still thinking that Ethan did it because he was threatened or something.
But he only did it for his selfish reason of climbing the social ladder, so why should Sarah spare any pity?
"Sure, let him go," Sarah said after a while, just as she spotted another target. Not the one she wanted, though. "What plan do you have?"
[Have an acquaintance in some ship--damn it!] Sol replied before a barrage of pain bullets rang through the headphones, followed by his running steps.
"Like for squid?" Sarah asked while clicking her tongue, raising her gun to aim and shoot at the unsuspecting target.
[That bruta--aaack! What, who--Eonni! How could you come from behind--kyaah!] the girl who used to shoot brutally at her opponents in online games ran around in panic under the barrage of Sarah’s bullets. [J! J--where the hell are you?!]
"He’s busy with Sol," Sarah chuckled, sounding like a menace as the shooting didn’t stop until Sua’s health indicator beeped.
[Eonni! What about women support women?!] Sua protested.
"All is fair in love and war--someone said," Sarah shrugged and immediately moved again to mask her location.
[So you--ugh--use me as a bait, little boss?] Sol heaved and, with another shot, followed Austin and Sua to the glass cemetery. [But anyway, yeah--something like a squid ship. He won’t be out until he forgets about himself]
[Slow death, mm...] Hajin, who didn’t speak much while he was moving, muttered darkly. It was more menacing since all of them knew his hand was bathed with blood at some point.
But Sarah also had no pity for the people who were involved in her mother’s death.
Sarah brought her fingers to the headphone and tapped it thrice, a signal their team devised to mark encirclement. Only Hajin left now, and Sarah didn’t want to lose again--even against a former agent.
"Anyway, what about his boss?"
[I...I looked into his p-past, and there was not much in terms of suspicious activity. I m-mean...other than usual case li-like em-embezzlement and stuff] Little Bird said. [But t-that’s n-not what you’re l-looking for, right?]
"Yeah..." Sarah twisted her lips as she looked around cautiously, looking for a man who could move around without making any sound.
[I d-don’t find any signs of cop--cooperation--between h-him and anyone in your f-f-family] the Little Bird continued. [B-but...]
A shooting sound rang and Sarah stopped in her tracks. It wasn’t on her side. "But?"
[B-but there was something w-weird in his p-past record] the Little Bird continued. [He spent a l-lot of time ab-broad, so...]
"You need more time to look into what happened," Sarah nodded, although the Little Bird couldn’t see her. "Are you alright, Suoh?"
[Not really] Suoh replied with a laugh. He sounded calm, but Sarah could hear the sound of him running through the field. [Wow...he’s like a hound]
[Get him, J! Put a new hole in him!]
[You can’t drill someone with a blob of paint, Sis] Suoh replied nonchalantly, but Sarah knew he was rolling his eyes. [Anyway, the real question is why that old man was targeting Sarah Noona--ugh]
[That’s right!] Sua laughed mirthfully at her twin’s demise. [And that’s right for what you said too!]
[Must you shoot me in the head, J?] Suoh grumbled. Their game was set so no one would immediately die from a single shot--otherwise, it would be boring since there were only six of them.
But when someone received a headshot on their helmet, it would be an instant kill.
[It’s a request from your sister] Hajin replied flatly, followed by another bout of Sua’s laughter.
[Good job, J!]
[Ugh--be careful, Noona]
Suoh warned Sarah, who had to face Hajin alone noe. She clicked her tongue and gripped her gun tighter, exhaling softly while peeking behind the wall she used as a cover. Little Bird had stopped giving her direction, probably silenced by Sua and Austin--who matched well for this kind of mischief.
This was that virtual game all over again.
[But why are you joining this side, J?] Sua asked curiously. [Aren’t you supposed to be Eonni’s bodyguard?]
"That’s what I’m taking ab--ugh!" Sarah pulled her head from the edge of the fence when she heard a whistling sound.
Red paint splattered over the surface of the fence where Sarah’s head was a second ago, and Hajin’s voice could be heard from the channel soon after. [All is fair in love and war]
Sua laughed again and Sarah gritted her teeth, glancing around to choose her next hiding place. Before she could move, however, she heard a rustling sound and Suoh’s warning.
[Watch out, Noona!]
"What? Where--"
Sarah looked around and then, when a shadow fell upon her, looked up to see a smirking face above the fence. She had only raised her arm forty degrees when the big dog grabbed it and pushed her to the ground.
"How the hell did you get here this fast?" Sarah grunted as her other arm was pinned above her head.
Hajin should be on the other side based on that last shot. Was he crossing the ground in just a few seconds? What a cheat!
"Wouldn’t you like to know?" Hajin chuckled while grabbing both of Sarah’s wrists with one hand and getting rid of their headphones with the other. "You chose a nice place to hide, Princess. Invisible from the observatory and the CCTVs."
Sarah tried to pull her arms with no avail and kicked the side of the man’s torso. The impact registered as damage, but it only lowered Hajin’s health bar a little bit. The man also slotted himself between her legs to prevent another kick, so Sarah could only glare at him.
"So this is why you’re going to the other side?"
"Didn’t you prefer this yourself?" Hajin tilted his head. "I know you still hold a grudge for that VR game."
Damn it--Sarah pursed her lips in annoyance. "So, what are you doing now? Shouldn’t you shoot me?"
"I’m taking my prisoner of war," the grey eyes curled, before Hajin leaned down to kiss the bare neck above the tactical gear.
"There’s no such thing as a personal prisoner of war, Mister Agent," Sarah bit her lower lip as the breath from his chuckle tickled the sensitive skin beneath her ear. She glanced at the gleaming eyes and hissed. "Are you seriously going to do this here? In public?!"
"Isn’t it thrilling?" Hajin whispered back on her ear, and Sarah couldn’t help but shudder, back arching as her spine tickled with arousal.
Well...he wasn’t wrong. Did she actually enjoy doing it somewhere she shouldn’t? Or was it because of the tight black shirt and the harness beneath the tactical gear?
"Not...here," Sarah sighed into the lips that had found hers, kissing back as she squirmed beneath the heavy weight. The hold loosened and Sarah brought her arms down, trailing her hands over the man’s tactical gear. "Just..." Sarah hooked her fingers on the harness and, with a smile against his lips, whispered again. "Just keep this on for later."
"Pervert," Hajin whispered back, and a shooting sound rang. He looked down to see red paint splattered on his side, coming from his own side gun that Sarah pulled while they kissed.
The black eyes curled as Sarah pulled the trigger again until a beeping sound came from Hajin’s gear system. "All is fair in love and war."
