Building The Strongest Family -
Chapter 140: Ghost Hunt
The Eastern Consortium's private landing pad glimmered under the neon lights of Neo-Luminara, a stark contrast to the relentless downpour drenching everything in sight.
As the sleek VTOL craft descended with an air of predatory elegance, its matte-black surface absorbed the surrounding glow like a shadow come to life.
Renshu Wu stood resolutely beneath his umbrella, his posture rigid despite the storm brewing within him.
Behind him, fellow Consortium officers,Scarlet, General Kho, and a dozen others, formed a silent line of anticipation.
The atmosphere crackled with unspoken tension as the gangway extended with a hiss.
And then she appeared.
Operative Raven emerged from the craft like a specter materializing from darkness.
Her lithe frame moved with lethal precision; each step was deliberate and calculated.
Clad in a form-fitting tactical suit that seemed to consume light itself, she was adorned only by shimmering gold circuitry tracing along her body like veins of electricity.
Her dark hair was tightly braided and cascaded down her back, weighted at the end by what could just as easily be an ornament or a weapon.
But it was her eyes that truly captivated, the left deep brown and warm, while the right gleamed cybernetic gold, pulsing faintly as it scanned the gathered officers.
"Renshu," she said smoothly, her voice as sharp as polished steel.
"Operative Raven," he replied with a slight bow. "Welcome to Neo..."
"Spare me," she interrupted briskly, striding past him with boots clicking against the slick pavement. "The situation room. Now."
Inside the war room, holographic displays flickered to life as Xiuying took command at the head of the table. She didn't sit; instead, she claimed her space like royalty surveying her kingdom.
"Status report," she commanded firmly.
Renshu cleared his throat before speaking up. "Our operation was compromised. The accelerant failed; our operatives were captured, and we initiated the Crimson Protocol to contain any fallout."
Raven's golden eye narrowed dangerously. "Who is responsible?"
"That's... unclear," Scarlet interjected cautiously. "Evidence suggests multiple possible actors..."
"Unacceptable." Raven's voice sliced through any lingering uncertainty in the room. "You allowed someone to humiliate the Consortium without knowing who did it?"
General Kho shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "The trail is complex; several parties have motives..."
"Stop making excuses." Xiuying's gaze swept across them all like an eagle assessing its prey. "The Crimson Protocol is rescinded immediately,we're not retreating; we're regrouping."
With purpose, Raven activated another holographic display showcasing Neo-Luminara's intricate power structure.
Priority One: Identify Our Adversary.
With a swift motion, her fingers danced across the interface, bringing up a series of dossiers that flickered to life.
"Arthur Osborn doesn't have the capability," she noted, her voice steady. "The Iron Serpents have the motive. And even Damien's own people might be playing a deeper game."
Scarlet leaned in closer, her curiosity piqued. "Our intelligence suggests..."
"Your intelligence failed," Raven interjected sharply, cutting through the tension in the room. "We're starting fresh. Scarlet, you'll lead this investigation. I want every digital breadcrumb analyzed and every financial trail followed."
Turning to General Kho, Raven continued with determination, "Mobilize our remaining assets, quietly. If this was an outside player, they're bound to make another move."
As she outlined her strategy, Raven's holographic gold eye pulsed with intensity:
Economic Pressure Points:
Freeze all suspicious transactions in and out of Neo-Luminara.
Identify any unusual market movements preceding the attack.
Digital Forensics:
Trace the leak of the accelerant formula.
Hunt for signs of AI interference within their systems.
Political Leverage:
Reactivate sleeper agents in City Hall.
Identify who benefited most from Veyne's survival.
Operational Security:
Conduct a full audit of all personnel.
Implement new encryption protocols for all communications.
As the meeting wrapped up, Raven turned to Renshu with a hint of gravity in her tone. "You'll stay on as my advisor; your knowledge of this city is invaluable." The weight of unspoken words lingered between them like an electric charge.
Renshu bowed his head respectfully. "Of course, Operative."
With a wave of her hand, Raven dismissed everyone else from the room before activating a private terminal once they were alone.
"Whoever did this," she murmured thoughtfully, "they're skilled, but remember: everyone leaves traces."
Her golden eye gleamed as she pulled up a classified file titled:
[ Operation: Ghost Hunt]
[ Objective: Identify
And Neutralize Threat]
[ Protocol: Phantom Strike]

Osborn Family Mansion
Inside the study, Arthur was engrossed in a book that was as thick as his forearm, surrounded by a towering stack of towering books.
The atmosphere was quiet until suddenly, Evolon's blue visage flickered to life on the giant screen. Today, its usual calm hues were laced with streaks of crimson urgency.
"Sir, she has arrived," Evolon announced.
Arthur didn't bother to look up from his reading. "Who?"
"Operative Raven. One of the Eastern Consortium's top assassins."
Arthur paused, fingers hovering over the page he had been about to turn. He closed the book and slowly raised his head. "Tell me everything."
The screen shifted dramatically, flooding with streams of data. "I have compiled a full dossier. Would you prefer a summary or an in-depth psychological profile?"
Leaning back in his chair, Arthur replied coolly, "Start with who she is. Then tell me why I should care."
---
[Operative Raven]
[Birth Name: Emily Hawthorne]
[Place of Origin: The Jade Dominion]
[Current Status: The Eastern Consortium's Predator]
Evolon's voice took on a narrative rhythm as it began: "Born in the slums of Jade Dominion,Sector 9,a district so impoverished that even gangs steered clear of it.
Her parents were indentured laborers at Veridian Tech factories and perished in what was labeled an 'accidental' reactor meltdown when she was just eight years old."
An image appeared on-screen: a gaunt child with hollow eyes stood amidst the ruins of a collapsed hab-block.
"The Consortium discovered her two weeks later," Evolon continued. "She survived by scavenging rats and pilfering from corpses. They tested her cognitive abilities and found her scores in the 99.9th percentile for processing speed and pain tolerance."
Arthur's expression darkened as he absorbed this information. "They recruited a child?"
"They forged a weapon," Evolon corrected him sharply. "By twelve, she could dismantle a plasma rifle blindfolded; by fifteen, she eliminated her first target, a rival syndicate leader, by slitting his throat during his daughter's wedding."
New footage played: security camera snippets showed shadows moving through crowds, flashes of steel glinting briefly before bodies fell unnoticed.
"At seventeen," Evolon continued without hesitation, "she had her cybernetic eye installed after gouging out her own damaged one during an interrogation, refusing anesthesia."
Arthur exhaled sharply through clenched teeth. "Charming."
The screen transitioned to display an alarming list of operations:
[Operation: Silent Tide]
Infiltrated the Azure Syndicate
Poisoned their entire leadership during a unity banquet
Casualties: 37
Time elapsed: 4 minutes, 22 seconds.
