Bounty Mercenary Group -
Chapter 44 - 44 44 Siege Part One
44: Chapter 44: Siege (Part One) 44: Chapter 44: Siege (Part One) Even though Violet knew that everything happening before her eyes was bound to occur sooner or later, and would repeat countless times in the future, she hadn’t expected it to come this soon.
The fury of the town mayor was truly beyond normal understanding.
His preparation for battle was akin to declaring a war.
Though these buffoons weren’t powerful, their sheer number was a nightmare for the psychologically faint-hearted.
Even the slightly timid ones would crumble at the sight, their legs failing them from fear.
Because, very soon, a scene unlike any they had ever witnessed was about to unfold.
Violet had been careful and cautious since her arrival in this alternate world.
She had been judiciously expanding her influence.
Avoiding confrontations with those she couldn’t afford to offend, she also refrained from seeking out trouble proactively.
Even when confronting obstacles, wherever possible, she chose to try and win them over.
Except for essential situations, she didn’t resort to killing as she couldn’t anticipate the consequences of mindless carnage.
But, this certainly doesn’t make her a weak person.
The carcass of the former Bronze Shield Mercenary Corps leader had already turned into her Undead Skeleton.
If this mayor continues to be so persistent, she wouldn’t continue being patient anymore.
This was a problem that had to be solved sooner or later!
If she didn’t deal with this fool, who knows what problems he might cause for her.
Her patience had its limits.
She had kept a low profile before understanding the rules of this world, but that didn’t mean the mayor should unfairly trample her rights!
She had anticipated such events and had placed her informant in the Mercenary Guild, who appeared to be an idle man.
He neither sported the Bronze Shield insignia nor hesitated to lead the line when the mayor tossed out some Gold Coins.
However, it was nothing more than a disguise!
Kars was adept at changing his appearance: a few strands of a beard, a shirtless torso, and replacing his favorite thin sword with a huge axe.
Then no one in the Mercenary Guild would recognize him!
At this moment, he had already removed his disguise and was standing behind Violet, his mouth curling into a sly smile.
Before the mayor started leading the greedy mercenaries in an aggressive charge, Kars used the nearest short-cut to reach the Black Crow Castle ahead of them.
After this, the happenings were beyond Violet’s control.
In the face of an attack, all Violet could do was sigh helplessly.
Despite all her calculations, she never expected that the mayor could be so brave!
In fact, Violet was doubtful whether the mayor’s recklessness could be termed as ‘fearless’ anymore!
Was this idiot in such a hurry to die?
She looked at the situation in front of the castle with a strange expression, and clenched her teeth, unable to utter a word.
Even though everything had been within her expectations, talking about it now would be pointless.
All she could do was close the castle gate, and stand on the castle wall, looking down upon the people attacking her.
Although Kars had taken the shortcut and reached earlier, the crazy and greedy thugs were not slow.
They had taken the main road from the Black Crow Castle to the town.
Over years of wear and tear, the path had become a safe trail.
They had even expanded the road for accommodating more people side by side.
The path from the town to the castle was much easier to traverse compared to the difficult mountain paths they had to endure earlier.
Therefore, the mayor and his group moved quickly.
Immediately after Kars entered the castle and delivered the news to Violet, they had already arrived.
Under Violet’s command, the mercenaries hurriedly shut the castle gates.
This group of aggressive fools revealed their cunning and deceitful side.
Instead of charging directly, they observed from a distance.
It felt as if they were not the ones attacking the castle, but merely spectators enjoying the show.
But, none of these rogues were willing to leave.
They stood stubbornly in front of the castle gate, their weapons reflecting the chilling light.
With their arms crossed over their chests and smug smiles on their faces, their cunning eyes betrayed them.
At this moment, Violet had donned her purple robe and walked onto the castle wall.
The robe covered her from head to toe.
Even under the scorching sun, no part of her skin was visible.
Aside from the area above her neck, the only other visible part was the arm holding the Magic Mace.
Seeing the event unfold, the greedy mercenaries started to whistle.
They started spouting obscenities about Violet’s physical attributes, spitting onto the ground.
Even if Violet were to lie down and spread her legs for them, they vowed they wouldn’t have her!
Violet didn’t respond to their comments.
There was a faint smile on her cold face as she observed these buffoons.
Ironically, the most affected by these comments wasn’t Violet, but the mayor whose crotch had been kicked abominably.
Hearing the mercenaries’ comments, he twitched, wanted to retaliate but was unable to utter a word.
Eventually, he ruthlessly stared at these assholes, stepped forward, and put an end to this ridiculous mockery.
His appearance finally made Violet pull a serious face, and things started getting interesting.
The leading mayor was dressed in an old but well-maintained armor that glittered under the sun.
Violet speculated that if she wasn’t mistaken, it must be coated with iron oil.
As Violet was smiling softly, contemplating how to deal with this fool, the mayor walked out from the crowd and started speaking.
With a stern face, he looked at the gate blocking his way, then lifted his head to look at Violet and coldly gave an authoritative command.
“Bloody wench!
Open the gate.”
