Chapter 47: Unholy Alliance
Jace reached the graveyard as the first headstones began to glow with sickly green light. The old burial ground stretched before him like a field of nightmares, each grave marker pulsing with dark energy. "Too late," he whispered, watching Celeste stand at the middle of the oldest graves. She held Talia above a stone shrine, the young seer’s blood dripping onto carved symbols that flared to life.
Around them, twenty enemy wolves formed a protective circle, their eyes reflecting Celeste’s magical power. "Welcome, Jace," Celeste called without turning. "Ready to watch your pack’s history rise against you?" The ground beneath his feet shook. Then the first skeleton hand burst through the soil. Jace stumbled backward as ghostly wolves emerged from their graves—former Alphas who had ruled for ages, their spirit forms crackling with supernatural power. "Impossible," he breathed. "Nothing’s impossible when you have the right motivation," Celeste laughed, her voice echoing strangely. "These spirits have been waiting so long to taste battle again." The dead Alpha wolves turned toward Jace with sparkling eyes. Their boss, a massive spirit wolf with ancient scars, spoke in a voice like grinding stone: "You dare disturb our eternal rest?" "She disturbed it, not me!" Jace pointed at Celeste. But the spirit dogs didn’t care about logic. Dark magic had twisted their mission. They saw only an enemy to destroy. The ghostly pack leader lunged. Jace rolled sideways, barely missing spectral claws that left smoking gouges in the ground where he’d stood. "Fight all you want," Celeste taunted, pushing her knife deeper into Talia’s arm. "When I complete this fourth ritual, your territory will become my kingdom of the dead." Jace avoided another spirit attack, his mind racing. How do you fight ghosts? His claws passed right through them, but their strikes hit him solid and painful. A ghostly Alpha caught him across the ribs, sending him flying into a headstone. Blood ran down his chest as he tried to stand. "Jace!" Talia’s weak voice reached him. "The symbols! Break the marks on the altar!" Of course. The ritual needed those markings to draw power from the graves. He raced toward the altar, weaving between spirit wolves. But there were too many. Ghostly teeth snapped at his feet. Phantom claws raked his back. Just as the biggest spirit wolf prepared to crush him, a howl split the night air. Liana burst into the graveyard, but she wasn’t alone. Behind her ran dozens of silver-furred warriors—the Moonshadow pack in their full glory. And Liana herself had changed. Her wolf form was larger than before, silver light radiating from her hair like captured moonbeams.
Her eyes blazed with ancient power. "The true Luna arrives," Marcus’s voice carried as he shifted mid-run, leading his warriors into battle. The Moonshadow dogs crashed into Celeste’s forces like a silver tsunami. But even they paused when facing the spirit Alphas. "They’re already dead!" one Moonshadow fighter yelped as his claws passed through a ghostly opponent. "Then we fight smarter, not harder," Liana commanded, her new Alpha voice carrying total authority. She leaped onto the altar, grabbing Talia protectively. "Celeste, enough! Your disagreement is with me." "Oh, but I’m not done yet," Celeste smiled, raising her hands toward the sky. "Fourth convergence point, activate!" The symbols on the altar burst with light. Every grave in the cemetery started glowing brighter. The spirit wolves grew more solid, more dangerous. But worse was happening beyond the graveyard walls. The trees at the forest edge began withering, their leaves turning black and falling like dangerous snow. A group of birds tried to fly overhead and dropped dead, their bodies hitting the ground with sickening thuds. "What’s happening?" Jace gasped, still fighting off ghostly attackers. Elder Mira’s voice reached them through the pack mind -link: The fourth point is complete.
Magical rains are starting. The land itself is dying. In the distance, they could see storm clouds forming—but these weren’t normal weather. Lightning crackled with purple energy, and the wind brought the smell of decay. "My kingdom rises," Celeste announced triumphantly. "Soon, every living thing will serve me or perish." That’s when surprising help arrived. Wolves poured into the cemetery from three different directions—but these weren’t Celeste’s friends. They were the same enemy packs that had joined her earlier. "What is this?" Celeste ordered as the Bloodmoon Alpha shifted to human form. "We came to help you rule," Alpha Garrett snarled, "not to watch you destroy everything worth ruling!" Behind him, the Silvercrest and Nightshade chiefs nodded grimly. "The magical storms are killing our territories too," Alpha Chen of Silvercrest stated. "Our water sources taste like poison. Our prey animals are running or dying." "That’s temporary," Celeste declared. "Once I complete the final convergence—" "There won’t be anything left to rule!" Alpha Garrett roared. "We were fools to trust you." The enemy packs turned on Celeste’s final followers. The cemetery became a chaotic battlefield with spirit wolves, living wolves, and desperate magic colliding in dangerous combinations.
Liana used the chaos to smash her claws into the altar symbols. Each broken sign made the spirit wolves flicker and fade slightly. "No!" Celeste screamed, lunging toward her. But Jace interrupted, tackling Celeste away from the altar. They rolled across the ground, fighting frantically. "You ruined everything!" Celeste shrieked, her eyes wild with anger. "I was meant to be Luna! Me!" "You were meant to be my friend," Liana said sadly, ending the destruction of the altar markings. The spirit wolves instantly began fading back to their graves. The ghostly Alpha leader looked at Liana with something like respect before disappearing. "This isn’t over," Celeste snarled, but she was already fleeing with her few remaining loyal followers. "I still have three convergence points active. Your land will still die slowly." She vanished into the storm-darkened forest, leaving chaos behind. Alpha Garrett approached Liana carefully. "Luna Liana, we... we need to talk." "About what?" she asked, still sparkling with Moonshadow power. "About survival," Alpha Chen stepped forward. "Our lands are dying too. The magical storms don’t respect pack limits." "Are you asking for help?" Jace asked warily. "We’re asking for alliance," Alpha Garrett said bluntly. "We made a mistake following Celeste. But pride won’t save our packs from magical destruction." Liana looked around the graveyard, seeing the damage already done.
Dead plants, poisoned ground, unnatural storm clouds gaining strength. "What kind of alliance?" she asked. "Full unity," a new voice spoke. They turned to see Alpha Marcus from the Eastern packs emerging from the storm, followed by representatives from three more areas. "Word travels fast," he stated. "Seven packs total are ready to unite under your leadership to stop this magical plague." "Seven packs?" Jace’s eyes widened. "That’s unprecedented." "So is watching our world die," Alpha Chen pointed out sadly. Liana felt the weight of authority settling on her shoulders like a heavy cloak. Through her curse bond, she felt Kael’s approval from back at the Alpha house. "If we do this," she said slowly, "it’s not just about stopping Celeste. We’ll need to rebuild everything she’s ruined." "Agreed," the Alphas said in unison. "Then we meet tomorrow at dawn," Liana decided. "All seven packs. Full members. We plan our next move together." As the Alphas scattered to gather their people, Talia grabbed Liana’s arm weakly. "I had another vision while Celeste held me," she whispered anxiously. "The final convergence point—it’s not what we think it is." "What do you mean?" "It’s not a place," Talia’s eyes were wide with fear. "It’s a person. And Celeste already knows who." Before Liana could ask more questions, Talia collapsed from blood loss and tiredness. As Marcus helped take the young seer to safety, Liana stared into the storm-filled sky, wondering which of her friends Celeste would target next. The unholy alliance was made, but the war was far from over.
