Chapter 65 - 65

"Mother-in-law, I won't be eating lunch today. The captain left some food for me," Saitama said calmly.

After sipping a few mouthfuls of soup to warm his stomach, he picked up a large rice ball and began to eat in silence.

Uchiha Kaka already knew that Saitama had joined the clan's police force, and that the captain was none other than Uchiha Fugaku. So when she heard that her superior had prepared a meal for him, she wasn't surprised and didn't think much of it.

She simply nodded, then narrowed her eyes at Saitama and said teasingly, "Fine then, old lady's just cooking for herself today."

"Got it." They both finished their rice balls and soup. Saitama stood up from the table.

"Mother-in-law, I'm heading out to train. Eat at your own pace!" he called as he opened the door and left.

---

"Youth is passion!"

"Hyah! Hyah!"

"Guy!!"

"Father!!"

Saitama stood frozen for a moment, confused by the scene in front of him. He hadn't gone straight to the training grounds but had taken a detour to Konoha's commercial district to pick up a few things.

After all, he was going to visit Uchiha Fugaku's house at noon—it would be rude to go empty-handed.

"Guy! Let's race around Konoha! All the way to the end of our youth!"

"Yes, Father!!"

Two figures in green spandex raced past Saitama. The older one gave him a thumbs-up as he passed.

"That must be Might Duy and his son, Might Guy..." Saitama blinked, watching them disappear in a cloud of dust.

Konoha really ought to hire them as public cleaners. That dust could be useful in some way.

He waved the dust out of his face and kept walking.

Eventually, he picked out a few pastries—small gifts for Fugaku and Mikoto, whom he hadn't formally met. Then he remembered that Itachi would be around two or three years old at this time, so he stopped by a weapons shop and picked out a small short sword, one that resembled the kind he liked himself.

They weren't expensive, but it was the thought that counted.

---

The morning passed with another round of training. Sweat flew. Shisui hadn't shown up today, so Saitama sparred with other members of the Uchiha Police Force.

His opponents weren't quite on his level, but the lighter pressure gave him room to refine his Body Flicker Technique.

"Saitama!" a voice called out. It was Mori.

Just then, a blade from an Uchiha swordsman slashed toward him—but Saitama vanished instantly, reappearing behind the man.

"Bang!"

He landed a kick on the man's shoulder, forcing him to one knee.

"Alright, I'm going to see what Mori wants." Saitama nodded at his sparring partner, Nagisa Uchiha.

Among the guards, Nagisa was one of the strongest after Saitama and Shisui. Since he was present today, Saitama had picked him as a sparring partner.

"Geez, you're a monster. I don't know how you got so strong so fast..." Nagisa muttered, rubbing his shoulder with a bitter smile.

"I just got lucky," Saitama replied casually, patting his comrade on the back as he walked toward Mori.

"What's up, Mori?" he asked, his hand resting casually on the hilt at his waist.

Mori looked awkward, his expression strangely flushed.

"Nothing big... just wanted to talk."

Saitama raised an eyebrow. "Then say it. Why are you acting like a blushing bride?"

Mori's face grew redder. "You wouldn't get it... you're still too young."

"Try me."

Mori took a breath. "Well... it's the first day of the new year. I'm getting married. So, remember to come to the wedding with Shisui."

Saitama blinked. "Wait, that's it?"

"Yeah," Mori said, a little disappointed by the lukewarm reaction. He figured Saitama was too young to grasp the gravity of marriage.

"I'll be there. But since when were you getting married? I didn't even know you had a girlfriend. Is this one of those arranged marriages from the clan?"

"No, no. I've been with Miko for a few years now. It's just that with the clan expecting another draft for the front lines next year... I'll probably be deployed. So the family wants us to marry sooner rather than later."

"What about Lin?" Saitama asked. He'd grown to care about Mori's younger brother.

"Lin's mission is more urgent. He probably won't be able to make it back."

"Alright then. I'll rally the whole guard and we'll celebrate properly."

"Thanks. That's all. I won't be around the training ground much for the next few days." Mori turned and walked off, head lowered.

Saitama watched him go, then chuckled to himself. "Didn't expect Mori to act so shy. He's usually got that 'I've got it all figured out' face."

After that, he wrapped up his training, showered, changed clothes, and picked up the gifts he had prepared.

---

The weather was pleasant—sunny, but not too warm. A perfect winter day.

The Uchiha clan compound was full of life, the streets bustling with activity.

Saitama walked up to a grand wooden gate and knocked.

"So this is the patriarch's house... even the doors are massive," he muttered, slightly impressed.

Compared to his home, this place screamed prestige.

"Who are you looking for?" a small but firm voice piped up behind him.

Saitama turned. He had noticed someone approaching while he knocked, but hadn't paid attention. After all, he was still on the public path—plenty of foot traffic.

He looked down at the little boy, no taller than his waist. The child had sharp, intelligent eyes and a composed face, despite his age.

"Itachi?" Saitama asked gently, crouching down with a smile.

"Huh? You know me?" Itachi tilted his head, clearly curious. He was certain he'd never met this stranger before.
