I thought it will be fun like chrysalis but I was wrong, tho chrysalis had a deeper plot it was fun, but this one the MC of book of dead his progression is painfully slow, unlike MC in chrysalis Anthony, my God sometimes I even wonder 🤔 if it's the same author wrote both novel or someone is using his account to write this , tho the novel is okay but it's filled with fillers and incredibly boring
i'm rereading this gem here and for those who will read it for the first time I envy you!
This is one of the very few top progression fantasy story out there with the author giving a special attention to the realism and level of details in various aspects of his story. Characters credibility and variety, world building, combat, mc progression stand all above the average.
Here there is no blue screen which will pop out of nowhere, no side food characters purposedly put in the way to nurture the mc growth. Each have their own will and aren't forced.
If I have to quibble, the pacing is sometimes unbalanced between moments of action and moments of "researching" but this is insignificant compared to the others qualities...
A very good story, one of the few i will follow until the end.
edit: Dove is a true man! I totally agree with my fellow comrade below :)
Author certainly benifited from writing Crysalis before this.
Overall a unique take on a overdone plot that is well executed and written, with the MC continually getting f*cked over for reasons (mostly) outside (unless entirely at fault) his control.
It is well written, it manages to make a "get a class when you turn 18" story unique, has a form of necromancy i've never seen before that the MC has to use, the mysteries of who and what are f*cking with him are slowly and logically reavealed as he gets more and more desperate until he finally becomes what people believe he is. Actions do have consequences (Dove is the best) and as Dove puts it... something like "'The boy is a trouble magnet. If he wasn't neck deep in sh*t he'd happily dive into more to try and do some so called good.'"
