Chapter 96: DEFENSIVE LORD MARCEL
{" The best defense against evil men is good men skilled at violence
We stood there for what felt like an eternity, neither willing to break the moment. The silence between us was thick with unspoken emotions, heavy with everything we had lost.
When we finally pulled apart, Sierra’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears. She bit back a sob, pressing a trembling hand to her mouth.
"I haven’t felt this sad since Dunco was killed," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I kept telling myself, hoping that it was the Bay Shifter Pack. That it was them. But to know it was the Marcel family... our people..." She exhaled shakily, closing her eyes as if trying to block out the pain. "It’s so much worse than I ever expected."
I stood there, helpless. Watching her break felt like a blade twisting inside me.
And then, without thinking, without questioning, I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers.
It was not calculated. It was not planned. It was instinct raw, desperate, a need to comfort her in the only way I could.
For a split second, she froze, her breath hitching in shock. But my mind was already in turmoil. The vampire beast inside me roared, becoming possessive, clawing at my control. I had held back for so long, but now... now there was no stopping it.
Her eyes snapped open, searching mine for answers. But I did not give her time to process, pushed her lips apart and pressed on, deepening the kiss.
She gasped against my mouth, but then just as fast she responded.
Her arms wrapped around my neck, pulling me closer, and suddenly we were tangled in a kiss that was as desperate as it was passionate. It was not just desire, it was comfort, grief, and years of restraint finally breaking apart.
I held her tighter, knowing that even if the world was falling apart, this moment was real. This was ours.
We moved apart instantly when we sensed someone approaching. The energy shift was undeniable, a silent warning that we were no longer alone. Sierra’s gaze flickered to the door, and without hesitation, she strode over and quietly shut it.
Then, just as quickly, she turned back to me, her eyes dark with something unreadable, something that sent a shiver down my spine.
Before I could say anything, she was in front of me again, her hands sliding up my chest, and then—her lips were on mine.
This time, there was no hesitation, no second-guessing. We gave in to the passion that had been simmering beneath the surface for far too long. The kiss was deep, slow, and filled with all the things we had not allowed ourselves to feel.
When it finally ended, Sierra did not pull away completely. Instead, she rested her forehead against mine, her breath warm against my skin. Then, she tucked her head into the crook of my neck, her voice barely above a whisper.
"It was about time," she murmured. "But I hope this isn’t just because you feel sorry for me, Dante."
A chuckle escaped me as I wrapped my arms around her, rubbing slow circles on her back.
"You know damn well I’ve been holding back," I muttered. "I would never cross that line unless I was sure."
She let out a light chuckle, the sound muffled against my shoulder, and for a moment, the weight of everything around us did not feel so suffocating.
Then, her voice turned serious. "Did Freyr’s power get exposed?"
I exhaled, my fingers tightening slightly against her waist. "It had to be. They needed to understand who the Kaynes are. The people of Paradise Bay will thank us when they realize we took care of an evil wolf hiding in Blood Stone Mountain." I pulled back just enough to meet her gaze. "But Lord Marcel... he needs to be ready for what’s coming."
Sierra pulled away; her expression set with fierce determination. I could see it in her eyes, the storm brewing, the weight of her resolve.
"We must convene at the Coven Council meeting," she said, her voice steady but laced with the fire of vengeance. "This time, the Marcels will have to answer for what they did, to Dunco, to the Paradise Coven, to all the lives they destroyed."
I nodded, feeling the same fury coil in my chest. "There is no more running, no more hiding. They will face judgment."
Sierra clenched her fists. "And if the Council hesitates..." She met my gaze, her meaning clear.
"Then we make them pay ourselves," I finished for her.
It was late afternoon the next day when the meeting was convened at the Coven council meeting. I narrowed my eyes at Lord Marcel, watching him carefully. His voice was steady, controlled, but there was something calculated in his tone.
Lord Marcel’s gaze flicked to him, but he remained composed. "Cassius was the one responsible. He acted without my knowledge. He will answer for his crimes."
Freyr scoffed from where he stood, his arms crossed over his chest. "How convenient," he muttered. "Cassius takes the fall, and you wash your hands clean."
Sierra finally spoke, her voice cold and unwavering. "And yet, he did not act alone. The Marcel family has been pulling the strings in the shadows for too long. You expect us to believe that Cassius, a mere pawn, orchestrated all this on his own?"
Aggrey exhaled sharply, rubbing his temple as if suppressing his frustration. "The bloodstone nest, the gold trade, the war against the Bay Shifters, this wasn’t one man’s doing."
Idris and Tio remained silent, their expressions unreadable as they flanked Lord Marcel.
Freyr took a step forward, his energy crackling through the room. "You want us to believe you had no idea what your blood was doing?" His voice was deadly, each word laced with barely contained rage.
Lord Marcel met his stare, but before he could answer, Byron Marcel leaned forward from his seat. "This is a coven council, not a battlefield, Freyr. Control your temper."
Freyr let out a dark chuckle, shaking his head. "Control my temper? After what your family has done?" He pushed off the pillar and finally moved toward the center of the room. "You want to talk about justice? Then let us start with the truth. Who else knew? Who else played a part? Who killed my father, Dunco Marcel?’
The tension in the room thickened, silence stretching as the weight of his words settled.
Lord Marcel exhaled; his expression unreadable. "I will personally see to it that Cassius is punished. But if you expect me to take the blame for a crime I did not commit, you will be sorely disappointed. "The room fell into a heavy silence as Sierra’s words echoed. The air itself seemed to tighten, charged with her power. Lord Marcel’s expression remained impassive, but the subtle twitch in his jaw betrayed him. Idris and Tio tensed at their sides, their hands inching toward their weapons. "I have already said that Cassius will be punished," Lord Marcel said evenly. "The council will decide his fate."
Sierra took another step forward, the weight of her presence forcing even the strongest among us to still. "No," she said, her voice sharp and unwavering. "You do not get to dictate how justice is served. My husband was murdered, and you think I will let a corrupt council deliberate his punishment?" She exhaled sharply, eyes burning with fury. "Cassius is mine to judge."
Desmond shifted uncomfortably in his seat, casting a wary glance at me. Freyr, however, smirked darkly and crossed his arms, clearly relishing the moment.
Lord Marcel finally sighed, rubbing his temples as if he were merely dealing with an inconvenience rather than facing judgment. "Sierra, you are letting grief"
"Don’t," she snapped, her power surging. "Do not you dare reduce this to grief. This is about justice. Cassius played a part in a conspiracy that took lives, my husband’s included. And you, Lord Marcel, either knew about it or turned a blind eye."
Byron Marcel, who had remained quiet until now, finally spoke. "And what would you do, Sierra?" he asked, tilting his head. "Kill Cassius with your own hands? Spill his blood in this very hall?"
Sierra did not hesitate. "Yes."
The air left the room as her single word settled over us like a death sentence.
Freyr let out a low chuckle. "I’d love to see that."
Lord Marcel’s face darkened, and for the first time, a flicker of something close to worry crossed his face. He knew Sierra would not back down.
"The council will not allow a public execution," he said, voice tight.
Sierra took one last step toward him, standing toe-to-toe with the man she held responsible for everything. "Then bring Cassius to me," she repeated, slowly and deliberately. "Or I will come for him myself. "
"Impossible, "Idris stepped forward and hissed. "Are you going against Lord Marcel?’
"I would like to see who will stop me, "Frery walked over and stood next to Sierra, and finally the power of the Kayne family was felt in the entire Coven council hall.
