Chapter 43: AQUA COLBAT’S DECLARATION

{"Love is not ’if’ or ’because.’ Love is ’anyway’ and ’even though’ and ’despite."}

"I declare that I, Aqua Colbat, if I am not mated to Alpha Tor as his Luna, then his Beta, Spark Gale, will take his place."

The enforcer guards stood rigid as they delivered the message, their eyes flickering between Wave and me. They had not expected to find me in his home. The glass I had been holding slipped from my fingers, shattering on the floor. Shards flew in every direction, and a sharp sting shot through my foot as a piece of glass cut into my skin.

I barely noticed as my eyes blazed as I turned to face the guards, disbelief, and fury swirling within me. Wave stood at the entrance, unmoving, his expression unreadable. He did not flinch, even as the weight of my rage filled the room.

"Repeat that," I demanded, my voice dangerously low.

One of the guards swallowed hard but obeyed, his voice shaking slightly as he repeated Aqua’s words.

The second he finished, Spark, my wolf, surged forward, and a roar tore through my throat—a growl so deep, so raw, that the entire house trembled under its force. The guards flinched, bowing hastily before scrambling out the door. Wave moved quickly, shutting the door behind them. Without a word, he grabbed a cloth and began sweeping up the broken glass, his movements steady, and calm. I stood there, fists clenched, eyes closed, trying to rein in the storm of anger rising within me.

I had not realized how much time had passed until Wave grabbed my wrist, pulling me toward the couch. With firm insistence, he pushed me down onto the cushions before kneeling in front of me. His fingers tilted my chin up, forcing me to meet his gaze.

"Spark, you do realize this is a trap," he said, his voice steady but laced with quiet urgency. "They’re using you to threaten Alpha Tor."

I nodded, exhaling sharply, about to respond but then Wave did something that stopped me cold. He bared his neck to me. My breath caught, my eyes widening in shock.

"See?" he murmured. "I told you, waiting too long would only make things worse. It is time, Spark. You need to mark me. Let the entire Bay Shifter Pack know the truth." A tremor ran through me, not from fear but from something far more primal.

Everything inside me burned with the need to claim him, to make him mine in a way that no one could challenge. The moment Wave bared his neck to me, offering himself willingly, something inside me snapped. My wolf surged forward, growling in fierce possession, and I could barely hold myself back.

His scent wrapped around me, intoxicating and warm, like the ocean breeze after a storm. My hands gripped his waist, pulling him flush against me, feeling the steady thrum of his heartbeat beneath my fingertips. He trusted me, completely and without hesitation, and that only fuelled the primal hunger within me.

My breath ghosted over his exposed skin, the sensitive spot where my mark would be. I felt his pulse quicken, his body trembling, not in fear, but in anticipation. My wolf rumbled in approval, eager to solidify what we both already knew. He was mine. And I was his.

A deep growl tore from my chest as my canines elongated, sharp, and ready. I let the moment, to the last seconds before everything changed before the bond would tie us together forever. Then, with a swift movement, I struck.

My fangs sank into his flesh, piercing through with a sharp bite. A strangled gasp left his lips, his fingers digging into my arms, but he did not pull away. A flood of warmth spread between us, raw energy crackling in the air as the bond awakened. His wolf recognized me—recognized the claim. I felt it, a rush of something ancient and unbreakable, wrapping around our souls like wildfire.

His body melted against mine; his breathing unsteadied as the bond sealed itself. I pulled back, licking over the fresh mark instinctively, soothing the sting and sealing my scent into his very being. He was mine now. No one—no force, no enemy, no fate—could take him from me. Wave looked up at me then, his eyes shining with something I could not quite name. He reached up, his fingers brushing over the mark, and my wolf purred in satisfaction.

"It’s done," I murmured, my voice rough, barely human.

Wave exhaled, a small smile curving his lips. "About fucking time"

It was not what I had planned. But instincts surged through me, overwhelming any thought or rationality. At that moment, I marked Wave, and there was no going back. He was mine now, completely, and utterly. A fierce wave of satisfaction hit me as I realized that despite the urgency of the situation, everything else had fallen into place. We had no time to bask in the feeling, though. The pack needed us.

We quickly showered, and I tossed Wave one of my shirts, barely pausing to consider how strange it felt to be this close, this intimate, with him. But now was not the time to dwell on it. We were about to face the chaos that awaited us. There were bigger things to worry about.

As we arrived at the pack council offices, it was as if all the rage and frustration of the pack had been bottled up and released. Yelling, shouting, accusations flying chaos in its purest form. I stepped into the room, the tension thick in the air. Aqua, Elder Colbat, General Steel, and Commander Steel sat calmly at the table, completely unfazed by the uproar around them. It was like they could not hear the anger of the pack at all. They looked too smug, too collected.

And then, as if the tension in the room could have built to no higher a pitch, the moment we entered, everything stopped. A cold silence fell, the kind that only happened when power walked into the room.

Tiger and Flora flanked us immediately, standing like sentinels on each side. Their presence added to the weight of the silence, making it even more suffocating. My eyes locked with Aqua’s across the room, and for a second, I swore I could feel the challenge in her gaze—an almost predatory glint.

My hand instinctively went to Wave’s, my wolf still simmering inside me, protective, possessive. I did not even have to look at him to know he felt the same. He was ready.

"Enough." My voice rang out, cutting through the tension. My words were not a request—they were a command. I stepped forward, Tiger and Flora falling in behind me, and I could feel all eyes on us. The Steel family remained unmoved, but there was a flicker in their eyes, something that spoke of growing concern.

"What the hell is going on?" I said, my voice hard and unwavering.

The room stayed still, the silence deafening. I could hear my heartbeat in the stillness.

Aqua stood up, her eyes flashing with something I could not quite place at first, but I recognized the threat in it when she spoke. Her words were laced with venom, and she did not bother hiding the disdain in her voice.

"I am born of the Luna bloodline," Aqua declared, her voice carrying a note of superiority. "It is unfair that I am not mated into the Gale family. Since Alpha Tor refuses to claim me, it should be my right to be with him, or at the very least, be mated to the next in line. You, Spark, are not fit for the position of Alpha."

Her words hit me like a slap, but I did not flinch. Instead, I smirked, leaning forward slightly as I let the challenge hang in the air. "Worth? Are you worth being my mate?" I asked, my voice smooth but biting.

She raised her chin, her eyes narrowing with arrogance. "I have the right," she snapped, almost daring me to defy her.

Before I could even respond, I saw the change in Wave’s stance. His body went rigid, and within a fraction of a second, he was on his feet, moving faster than I could process. His hands shot out, grabbing Aqua by the throat, and slamming her into the wall with a force that made the entire room tense. I heard the growl escape his throat—low, dangerous, primal. "You don’t have the right," Wave snarled, his voice a growl that sent a ripple of power through the room. His grip tightened on Aqua’s throat, and her eyes widened in fear. "I own Spark, and Spark belongs to me. No one has the right to claim anything when it comes to her, especially not you."

The air in the room shifted, and for a moment, even Aqua seemed to shrink back under Wave’s dominance. Her defiance faltered, and the tension hung thick in the room. I could not help but feel a rush of pride at how easily Wave had taken control of the situation, how he showed without hesitation that I was his. I stood tall, my wolf seething under my skin, and let the silence linger, the power of our presence filling every inch of the room.

Aqua finally spoke, her voice choked. "You... you can’t just—"

Wave leaned in closer, his growl vibrating through the space between them. "Try me," he whispered, his voice dripping with authority. Her lips parted as if to respond, but the words never came and then Wave threw her down and walked back to stand next to me.

"Elder Colbat what else do you all have to say?" Wave growled and his eyes flashed and there was nothing dangerous like a newly marked wolf.

Silence settled in the conference room like a thick fog, pressing down on everyone present. All eyes were locked onto Wave as his words echoed through the space.

"He belongs to me."

Shock rippled through the room, expressions shifting from disbelief to confusion. General Steel was the first to react, rising from his seat with a controlled but firm demeanor. "No one was aware that Spark had marked you," he stated, his sharp gaze cutting across the room.

Wave snickered, a smirk tugging at his lips as he leaned back lazily, completely at ease despite the charged atmosphere. "Mating cannot be forced, General. Even if people crave power, it does not work that way." His voice was smooth, but there was an unmistakable edge to it.

Then his gaze snapped to Aqua, his usually stormy blue eyes now blazing like an untamed sea. "And you," he said, his tone darkening, "should stay away from the Gale family. No matter what you were born for, your mate is not the Alpha of the Bay Shifter Pack."

Aqua stiffened, her lips parting slightly in shock. A second later, the entire room erupted into chaos. Voices clashed, chairs scraped against the floor, and tempers flared like wildfire.

Amidst the uproar, a low chuckle sounded behind me. "Looks like Wave finally showed his true power," Tiger murmured, his amusement barely concealed. "That’s why he was chosen as the Enforcer of the Bay Shifter Pack." I barely registered Tiger’s words, my thoughts a whirlwind of emotions. Wave’s claim, his warning, and the sheer authority in his stance, all made my heart pound with love and admiration.
