Chapter 290: INTO BAY SHIFTER PACK

{"A real shifter walks in when the rest of the world walks out."}

We reached the edge of Hanka Island just as the first light of dawn broke across the distant horizon. The path forward was familiar, but everything felt changed. Hanka no longer pulsed with the same suffocating darkness, but it had been scarred. The kind of wound that did not heal with time. I walked at the front, beside Freyr, Rou, and Elle, just behind me. The rest of the survivors trailed close. My boots pressed against the earth with more weight than usual, each step a silent prayer that the Bay Shifter pack remained untouched.

As the trees thinned and the border came into view, I slowed. A line of guards stood ahead of our own. They were waiting, weapons in hand, but their stance was not aggressive.

One of them broke formation and jogged toward us. His scent was familiar to Orin, one of the senior border guards. He stopped before me and bowed his head quickly. "Alpha Tor. Captain Freyr. We have been expecting you."

"Report," I said, my voice steady, though my pulse had begun to climb.

He nodded. "The Moon Goddess herself defeated Rurik. After purification, he was spared... but he has disappeared. The creatures he brought with him fled back to the sea."

Freyr exhaled beside me, relief but laced with tension. I could feel it in the way his fingers twitched near mine.

"There’s more," Orin continued. "Not long after... The second army of the Paradise Bay Coven arrived. They have set up a temporary camp just beyond the next ridge, near the old stone clearing."

I blinked, stunned. "A second army?"

He gave a tight smile. "Led by Vampire Captain Belisont himself. He said, and I quote: ’Frery is bonded to Alpha Tor. That means the coven stands with Bay Shifter until the very end."

A strange warmth bloomed in my chest, and I looked over at Freyr, whose eyes widened a fraction before softening. His lips parted in surprise, but then he nodded slowly, reverently.

"They came because of me," he murmured.

"No," I said, my voice lower now, just for him. "They came because of us."

The scent of ash still lingered faintly in the wind, and the pain of loss still clung to my shoulders but in that moment, I realized we were not alone. The realm was waking, and now we had Allies rising. Dawn had begun to bleed across the sky, soft streaks of amber and lavender washing over the trees as we crossed the final stretch between Hanka Island and home. I had never been more grateful to see the towering gates of the Bay Shifter pack, nor to hear the distant rustling of our people stirring.

Word must have travelled faster than we had, and as we passed the borders, houses flickered to life. Doors opened. Faces appeared in the windows. Shifters stepped out in silence, in awe, watching as our group made its way down the wide stone path that led to the heart of our pack lands. No one said a word at first. They did not have to. I could feel relief, curiosity, and something else: unity.

They had been waiting for us and Freyr straightened, his hand brushing against mine. Rou and Elle moved like sentinels, their shoulders squared, their eyes scanning everything as the people began to follow us and they all were in awe as they spotted Aurora, wearing the regals of Paradise coven and Nessa next to her.

When we reached the central square, the city centre unfolded before us like a promise. And standing there was the welcome I had not realized I needed.

General Tiger was the first to step forward, his broad frame rigid with discipline, but his eyes filled with pride. Ralph stood beside him, one hand casually resting on his hip, his beast barely restrained beneath his skin. Flora and Rita followed, the two elder she-wolves radiant with power and warmth.

"Greetings Alpha Tor, Frey," The voices echoed, and they were replicated across the Bay shifter pack.

And then, Captain Belisont. He was impossible to miss. Tall, statuesque, with obsidian hair falling like silk past his shoulders and crimson eyes sharp as blades. The captain of the Vampire army bowed with crisp precision the moment we approached.

"Coven Lord Aurora, Nessa, Freyr," he greeted, his voice smooth, commanding. "Alpha Tor"

Freyr nodded, and I followed suit. "Captain Belisont," I said, holding his gaze. "We’re honoured to have the Paradise Bay Coven standing with us."

He gave a faint smile. "Where my kin’s heart lies, my army followers. And right now..." His eyes flicked to Freyr. "Our allegiance is clear."

I did not miss the way Freyr’s cheeks flushed slightly at that, but he held his head high. The moment was heavy. Sacred. The gathering of packs, covens, and allies in the light of dawn, ready to stand together against the darkness that had already taken so much. Behind us, the people of the Bay Shifter pack began to cheer, low at first, then louder, rising like thunder. And though the war was far from over, at that moment, I knew we were not alone.

Just as the cheers began to die down and the crowd respectfully parted, General Tiger stepped forward again, his face tightening with urgency beneath the calm.

"Alpha Tor, Captain Freyr," he said with a sharp nod, his voice lowered so only we could hear, "Spark and Wave are waiting for you in the Royal Garden along with Elder Mercury and Elder Crystal. They also accompanied by Alpha Rolan and Qadira."

We all nodded.

"They asked not to be disturbed until your arrival," Tiger continued, casting a glance over his shoulder in the direction of the garden.

Freyr nodded once, his jaw tight. "Then we go now."

General Tiger stepped aside, gesturing toward the path that led through the city’s eastern corridor, the way to the Royal Garden. "I will have the others begin setting up defences around the perimeter. Captain Belisont has already deployed his scouts."

"Good," I said, clapping Tiger briefly on the shoulder. "Let’s make sure the Bay Shifter pack stands strong." We moved without another word, Freyr already two steps ahead of me. Whatever awaited us in the garden, it was not about war anymore."

We moved to the Royal Garden and when we stepped through the threshold of the Royal Garden, the moment was thick with expectation and sunlight began to stream over the horizon. The quiet peace of the garden stood in stark contrast to the battles and darkness we had just left behind.

Spark stood tall near the silver-blossomed tree at the centre, his armor still dusty from patrols, but his eyes shining like he had not stopped watching the path since we left. Beside him, Wave looked radiant, exhausted but glowing with a calm that made my chest ache. As soon as they spotted us, Spark stepped forward and threw his arms around me in a brother’s embrace, firm and grounding.

"Alpha Tor," he breathed, and I returned it with a nod. "You made it back."

Then Wave moved toward me, and the moment his presence brushed close, I froze.

A soft pressure faint but unmistakable thumped in my chest like an echo not my own. Then another. And another. Four tiny pulses rippled through the air, brushing against my auralike whispers of life not yet born. I inhaled sharply, my eyes locking with Wave’s. He did not need to say anything. But Spark did. He stepped beside his mate, his arm slipping around Wave’s waist as he turned to face us all with a proud smile that chased away every shadow in the room.

"Wave is pregnant," he announced, voice steady and proud. "He carries our pups. Four of them."

I stepped closer, placing a hand gently on Wave’s shoulder. "I felt them," I whispered. "They’re strong already."

Wave nodded; his smile was quiet but filled with strength. "They’re why I’ll fight harder than ever."

Freyr stepped beside me, voice low with emotion. "Then we will protect them with everything we have. For them. For all of us."

The moon goddess’s blessing had not just given us hope, but she had given us a future.

Freyr stepped forward with the grace of a true Alpha, the morning light catching on the silver threads in his dark hair. The calm in his voice settled over the Royal Garden like a gentle tide, drawing every eye to him.

"I would like to formally introduce my people," he said, nodding toward the two regal figures just behind him. "This is Aurora, Lord of the Paradise Coven, and her mate, Nessa."

All heads turned as Aurora stepped forward, her presence commanding but warm, the silver tattoo along her neck glinting in the rising sun. Nessa stood beside her with quiet strength, her eyes surveying the garden like someone who had seen battle and still chose to protect what was beautiful. Before anyone could speak, a delighted shriek cut through the air. Qadira broke through the gathered crowd, her laughter bright as she rushed across the garden and wrapped both vampires in a tight embrace.

"You two never change," she laughed, pulling back only slightly, her eyes glassy with relief.

Aurora chuckled, a rare softness in her usually composed demeanour. "And you’ve only gotten louder, Qadi."

The garden buzzed with warm laughter and conversation as Rolan strode forward, his tall form imposing but his smile boyish as he embraced Rou tightly, clapping him on the back like a brother returned from war. Then he turned to Elle and gave her a respectful nod and a rare grin.

"You survived Hanka Island. I should have known," Rolan said.

Elle arched a brow. "Barely. But we do not die easily."

Once greetings had settled, we all moved to the curved stone benches beneath the blooming elder trees. A gentle wind swirled the scent of jasmine through the garden, and for a moment, it felt like peace might stay a while.

Then Freyr looked at us and said, "It’s time we spoke of what happened in Hanka."
