Chapter 285: THE FORCE OF RURIK

{"The strength of the wolf is the pack, and the strength of the pack is the wolf."}

The seal pulsed beneath my palm like a steady, sacred, ancient heartbeat. The magic of the Omega Chamber recognized my blood and lineage and welcomed my command. I inhaled sharply and let the power rise in me, not just the refined discipline taught by the Elders, but the raw, instinctual Omega magic that came from the core of who I was. It surged like a wave through my veins, into the moonstone barrier surrounding the chamber, and then outward into the soil of the Royal Garden.

"By the ancient covenant of the moon," I whispered, "I bind the Sanctuary. No darkness may cross. No death shall claim it."

The barrier shimmered, then solidified into a radiant dome of silver and pearl light. The energy rippled outward, encasing the entire garden in a protective glow.

Behind me, Spark stepped up and placed his hand on my shoulder. "It’s done," I said quietly, and he nodded.

"We hold here," he said, eyes already scanning the tree line that bordered the beach path. "Until blood or dawn."

Around us, the warriors of the realm assembled in swift, disciplined lines. General Mortas stood to the left flank, armor gleaming and blade drawn. Enforcer Troy, with his dark twin daggers, crouched low in a predator’s stance. General Tiger’s aura pulsed like a storm, lightning dancing between his fingers.

I joined Spark at the front of the line. "Positions!"

And then we heard it, the low growl, it started like a whisper, feral, broke,n and rose into a monstrous snarl that echoed across the sky. The first of the creatures emerged from the tree line, rising out of the mist like ghosts dragged from the sea. Twisted beasts of scales and fur, eyes hollow, jaws filled with blackened teeth.

But it was the figure behind them that made the ground tremble. A towering man, almost seven feet tall, stepped forward his presence like a void, sucking the warmth out of the air. His shoulders were broad, muscles tensed under ragged armor etched with runes of blood and bone. His wolf was barely contained beneath his skin, energy leaking from every pore, a snarling shadow forming over his back.

His eyes glowed red with madness and power. He did not speak and just stared at us.

Spark stepped closer to me, whispering, "That’s no ordinary shifter..."

"No," I said, heart thundering. "That is a blood bond. Ashanai made him from one of her own."

The moment he stepped forward, time itself seemed to stutter. His feet crushed the earth with the weight of something not quite mortal ,no, not mortal at all. He wore the skin of a man, but the wolf beneath it was ancient, corrupted, held together by vengeance and blood craft. He moved through his army like a storm parting the sea. The creatures snarled and bowed their heads as he passed, as if even they knew better than to challenge him. When he reached the edge of the protective barrier, he raised his chin and looked directly at me. All of us.

"I am Rurik," he said, his voice deep and sharpened like a blade dragged across bone. "Loyal guard of Ashanai, Daughter of the Moon, rightful ruler of this realm."

My spine locked at the sound of her name. The sky above darkened. Even the breeze seemed to retreat.

Rurik smirked, exposing a line of wolfish teeth. "She sent me to take what should never have been yours, the Seal of the Omega Sanctuary. That power belongs to her, not to you... not to a broken bloodline of cowards clinging to fading glory."

Beside me, Spark growled, his hands already burning with the flare of Beta magic. General Mortas stepped forward with a blade drawn.

"And if you think," Rurik continued, voice lowering into something more monstrous, more real, "that you can stand between me and what I’ve come for, then I’ll grant you a swift death for your foolishness." He raised one hand, claws glinting under the dimming sky. "I will rip through your armies; tear open your sanctuary and gut your sacred seal with my own hands. Ashanai will rise. And the Age of Light will end."

I stepped forward, slowly, power vibrating beneath my skin like a second pulse. "Then you’ll have to kill me first," I said, voice firm, steady. "Because you’ll never touch the seal while I still breathe."

He grinned. "Good," he growled. "I was hoping you’d say that."

The moment Rurik lunged, the world cracked, and the barrier woven by Omega threads and ancient sigils shook violently as his clawed fist collided with it. The force echoed through the air like a thunderclap, and I stumbled back a step, my pulse stuttering in disbelief. The entire Royal Garden pulsed, as if the very land were bracing itself for what was to come.

"That... that shouldn’t be possible," Spark muttered beside me, voice tight with awe and dread.

Cracks shimmered along the barrier, spider-webbing across the magical weave like glass under pressure. "It’s going to give," Spark said louder now, more urgent. "Wave this barrier won’t hold."

Before I could respond, General Mortas growled and stepped forward. "Then we meet him head-on," he declared.

General Tiger followed with a nod; his eyes hard as stone. "Let’s remind him what happens when you threaten the heart of our realm."

A guttural growl ripped through the air, and I turned just in time to see Ralph shift bones breaking, muscle swelling until the massive form of his Rogourau beast stood tall, fur bristling, fangs bared. He pounded the ground once with a clawed fist that cracked stone. And then Troy dropped to his knees with a howl, body rippling as his wolf form exploded forth in a flash of silver and shadow. His eyes glowed fiercely, and he took his place beside the others without a word.

I swallowed hard, heart thudding, and the wind howled around us, the barrier flickering, failing. Rurik was smiling through it all, eyes glowing like twin moons. With another punch, the magic sputtered, and I could feel it now, with the exact moment the barrier began to die. I stepped forward, drawing from the Omega Seal pulsing at my core, and let the ancient magic rise to the surface of my skin.

"If he wants a war," I whispered, "he’s about to get one."

I felt it like a whisper from the bones of the earth, a thrum older than the stars. The Omega Seal within me pulsed once... then twice... and then it erupted like a rising tide. Power surged through every nerve, every breath, until it felt like my very blood was made of starlight. The voices of those who came before ancient Omegas, forgotten by time, rose in my chest like a chorus of thunder. Their strength did not ask for permission. It claimed me.

I stepped forward, eyes fixed on Rurik as the barrier trembled and cracked. With both palms out, I slammed them against the failing weave and commanded it to rise. The ground beneath us shook. Light silver and blue and threaded with gold spiked outward from my hands and stitched itself into the breaking barrier. The shattered web rewove itself, the cracks closing with a hiss, and a burst of wind exploded outward in a wave that sent dust and shadow scattering.

Rurik’s sneer twisted into a look of genuine shock, his glowing eyes widening as the light from the reinforced barrier washed over him. He stumbled back a step, but it was enough. The creatures behind him staggered too, snarling and howling as the pulse of Omega power rippled through the air like a cleansing storm.

Spark let out a low laugh beside me. "Did you see his face?"

"Yeah," I replied, never breaking eye contact with Rurik. "It was comical."

Rurik growled, his claws flexing, his pride visibly wounded. "You dare wield the old power?"

"I don’t wield it," I said, my voice steady, charged with the voices of countless Omegas. "I am it."

The barrier shone brighter now, more solid than ever, anchored not just by magic, but by purpose. Our purpose. The barrier pulsed with a living brilliance, humming with the breath of every Omega that had ever lived. I stood tall, grounded in the swirling force of our shared legacy, and then the moon began to rise. Silver light spilled across the battlefield, touching everything in its path like a divine hand. The moon, impossibly large, hung in the sky like a watchful eye. The moment it reached its zenith, the power it released struck the earth like a silent bell.

I felt it before I saw her. My breath caught as warmth cascaded down my spine. My heart pounded, not in fear, but in reverence. A presence so old, so achingly familiar, swept across the Royal Garden. The light thickened, wrapping around us like gossamer silk, and then from within that light...

The Moon Goddess stepped forward. Radiant, untouchable, draped in flowing silver that shimmered with stars and time. Her eyes pale and endless, locked on Rurik with the weight of judgment itself. Her bare feet touched the earth, and where she walked, the grass bloomed. Rurik, proud and defiant just moments ago, stumbled backward. The light burned against his corrupted skin, his snarl turning into a howl of pain. He writhed, shadows peeling off him like ash.

"Moon Mother," he rasped, trying to stand.

But her power crushed him, with a wave of her hand, his knees buckled, and he collapsed with a grunt, forehead pressed to the ground. His body shook like a child under her gaze.

"Rurik, loyal no more," she spoke, and her voice was the calm before a storm. "You gave yourself to the void. You traded loyalty for lust for power. You have dishonoured your wolf, and now you beg before me?"

Rurik whimpered, claws digging into the dirt, unable to meet her eyes.

My heart thundered as I watched her walk past me, her presence brushing my aura like a mother’s hand. "Wave," she said, not turning. "You carry the weight of many. Stand firm. "I nodded, speechless, and before all of us, the Moon Goddess stood over Rurik, and judgment hung heavy in the air.
