Chapter 283: DARKNESS WAVE

{"Sometimes it’s only in the darkness that we can truly see the light."}

The weight in the air shifted. Even after the vision faded, a chill crept through the cavern like a shadow growing longer. Tor and I exchanged glances the kind that said we both felt it: darkness was rising again. The island held its breath with us, every stone and whispering breeze warning of what was coming. Hours passed in heavy silence and finally the cave’s great doors groaned open.

Light spilled in, but it was not the dawn. It was the sharp scent of salt and blood.

We turned sharply to see Rou, staggering through the threshold, his frame bruised and battered, claws dragging slightly on the stone. Elle was right behind him her face pale but fierce, eyes blazing with fire and relief.

Without a word, Tor and I rose, rushing forward instinctively.

"Rou!" Elle gasped, clutching his arm, steadying him.

I reached out, steadying Rou’s weight as he faltered.

His breathing was ragged, but his eyes found mine fierce and grateful.

"We held them off," Rou rasped. "But it was close. Too close."

We settled into a tight circle, Rou leaning heavily against a rough-hewn stone as he caught his breath. Elle stood close, unwavering, her eyes sharp and steady.

Rou’s voice was low but steady, each word weighted with the pain of battle.

"The fight... it was brutal," he began, rubbing a jagged cut on his arm. "Those creatures—they came from the water, like nightmares made flesh. I used every ounce of my strength, my beast form, but they kept coming."

I nodded, urging him silently to continue.

"Gerod’s fire was the only thing that kept them at bay," Rou said, a flicker of awe in his voice. "The dragon rose from the depths and breathed fire like molten sun burning the creatures to ash."

Elle spoke up, her tone firm. "And the Mira magic inside Rou... I gave him everything I could. It strengthened him, pushed back the darkness. But the waves... the tide..."

Rou’s gaze darkened. "The tide rose higher, stronger than I have ever seen. It swept us back, flooding the beach, forcing us to retreat."

Tor and I exchanged grim looks as Elle continued, "Gerod carried us away on his back through the storm and the crashing waves. We barely escaped with our lives."

I could feel the tension in the room, the heavy truth settling like a storm cloud. "This isn’t over," I said quietly. "Ashanai’s power is growing." Rou gave a weary nod, eyes flickering with fierce determination.

The air shifted suddenly, thick with ancient power.

Then, Gerod’s voice rose deep and rumbling like thunder rolling across the island’s spine.

"You must use the spring’s magic," his voice echoed through the cave, "to heal them. The battle is not yet over. The creatures still rise on the beach."

Without hesitation, Tor and I moved side by side.

We stepped toward the sacred spring, the water shimmering with otherworldly light.

Together, we drew the magic from the pool, its warmth pulsing through our veins, and directed it toward Rou and Elle. I placed my hands gently on Rou’s battered shoulders, feeling the heat flow into him sealing wounds, soothing pain.

Tor mirrored my movements with Elle, the Mira magic weaving through her like a protective flame and slowly, colour returned to their faces. Rou’s eyes flickered open, widening as if seeing the world anew and then a slow, grateful smile tugged at his lips.

"I’m one lucky bastard," he said, voice rough but alive, "to witness the power of the great Dragon Gerod."

We all shared a brief smile, relief washing over us and without a word, we moved deeper into the cave toward the meadow beyond the shadows. There, under the gentle glow of the hidden sanctuary, we laid down and the night stretched out quiet and watchful. Tor and I kept vigil as Rou and Elle finally found rest the battle still raging beyond, but for now, we held the line together.

Morning light filtered softly through the cave’s entrance as I stirred awake, the quiet stillness pressing around us. Gerod lay not far off majestic and immense, his scales dulled in deep sleep. The great dragon’s chest rose and fell in steady, slow breaths, but there was no sign of awakening yet. Tor and I exchanged glances. We all knew how vital Gerod’s strength was, and we gathered close, voices hushed but urgent as we waited.

"We can’t let those creatures keep rising," Tor said grimly, eyes flicking toward the darkened shore visible through the cave’s mouth.

I nodded. "We need a plan that uses more than brute force. Rou’s strength alone will not be enough."

Elle shifted beside Rou, who was still recovering but alert. "The Mira magic," she said, "we’ll need to channel it together, amplify it."

I looked around at the group all wary but determined.

"We guard Gerod’s rest," I said firmly. "And when he awakens, we strike with everything we have got. But until then, we prepare." The island held its breath with us and time stretched as we waited for the dragon’s mighty heart to stir and for the battle to come.

The air shifted, charged with ancient power and Gerod’s massive form stirred, his eyes snapping open fiery and fierce. He rose, scales gleaming under the cave’s light, every inch the guardian of Hanka Island. Without hesitation, we all bowed in respect, feeling the weight of his presence settle over surgeon’s voice rolled through the chamber, calm but commanding. "The tides stir the realms," he said, "Bay Shifter Pack and Paradise Coven both feel it. They prepare for battle and head this way toward Hanka Island."

My heart tightened. "The only way to defeat Ashanai," Gerod continued, "is to unite the realms. We must all stand together against her."

He turned his piercing gaze to us. "Wave and Spark guard the Omega Chamber," he warned. "Ashanai sent one of her royal guards Rurik to steal the seal that protects it." A chill ran down my spine and realized that this time the stakes had never been higher. We nodded in silent agreement ready to fight, to protect the island and the realms beyond.

Gerod stepped toward the cavern’s entrance, his massive claws scraping against the stone floor. But suddenly, he froze.

A chilling shadow crept across the island a darkness so thick it swallowed the light whole. The cave walls seemed to pulse, sealing us inside the Haven Chambers.

"We’re trapped," I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper.

Gerod’s eyes narrowed. "Ashanai has plunged Hanka Island into darkness. The evil is all around us outside and now... here."

He growled low, warning us, "If any of us step beyond these walls, the darkness will invade our minds. Like those creatures out there twisting thought, corrupting spirit."

My pulse quickened and suddenly, a radiant light blossomed beside Tor. The glow intensified until it revealed a graceful figure ethereal and commanding. The Moon Goddess herself, stepping from the light as if she belonged there. We all bowed instinctively, and she smirked at Gerod, that familiar glint in her eyes.

"Old friend," she said softly, her voice like moonlight on water.

Gerod’s stance relaxed, and the two exchanged words in a language older than time like old comrades reunited.

The moment the Moon Goddess stepped into the chamber, I felt the air shift — heavy with ancient power and secrets. She and Gerod began to speak, their voices low but filled with a weight that pressed down on all of us.

"The one you fear," the Moon Goddess said, eyes glowing softly, "Ashanai... she is my sister."

Gerod growled quietly, his gaze hard. "The darkness she spreads... it’s unlike anything we’ve faced."

"She was cursed," the Goddess continued, her voice tinged with sorrow. "Unable to bear life — to give birth. That emptiness turned her bitter, desperate for power. She craves the Omega pups’ magic, hoping to harvest it to fill the void inside her."

I swallowed hard. The thought of such a twisted hunger made the hairs on my neck rise.

"But someone stirred her in the depths of the ocean," she added, glancing toward the shadowed waves. "That awakening has fuelled her rage."

Gerod’s claws scraped the stone floor. "So, sealing her won’t be enough."

"No," she nodded solemnly. "A seal alone will never hold her. To stop Ashanai... a sacrifice must be made. A deep, painful offering."

I could feel the weight of her words settling over us like a dark cloud. The fight was not just about power or survival anymore. It was about sacrifice and whether we were willing to pay the price. Gerod’s massive form shifted beside me, his dragon eyes blazing with fierce determination. The cavern trembled slightly under the weight of his presence.

"No more sacrifices for evil," he growled, the sound rumbling like distant thunder. "We will not bow to darkness by giving in to its demands."

I met his gaze, feeling the fire behind his words ignite something in my own heart. "We fight it," Gerod continued, voice low but unyielding. "We end this here and now. So that peace can return to all the realms. No more fear. No more darkness."

His words settled over us like a battle cry, fierce and sure. I nodded, my resolve hardening. This war was not just about survival it was about reclaiming our future. Together, we would stand and fight. Until the evil was gone. Until peace truly lived again.
