Chapter 106: I MISSED YOU SO MUCH

Chapter 106: I MISSED YOU SO MUCH

{"Every day without you feels like a lifetime." }

The moment my eyes locked onto Freyr, everything else faded away. The tension in my body, the weight of the mission, the presence of Rou and Elder Dante dissolved into nothing.

Freyr moved first, but I met him halfway. We collided, arms wrapping around each other in a desperate embrace. His scent, crisp night air, and a faint trace of blood, filled my lungs, grounding me in the one thing that truly mattered.

He growled low, a sound only meant for me, and before I could say a word, his lips crashed against mine. The kiss was raw, heated, and filled with the longing that could only come from being apart for too long. My fingers tangled in his dark hair, pulling him closer as if I could fuse us and make up for all the nights we had spent apart.

A sharp throat-clearing broke through our moment.

I pulled away just enough to catch Rou’s smirk and Elder Dante’s neutral expression. Freyr did not let go. He pressed his forehead against mine, his breath hot against my skin.

"I missed you," he rumbled, his voice thick with emotion.

I exhaled, my grip tightening on his shoulders. "Then why were you in a fit of rage earlier?" My wolf, Gale, had sensed it long before we arrived. Freyr had been furious, his energy like a storm barely contained.

Freyr did not answer immediately. His jaw flexed, and he only gave a curt nod. That meant later when we were alone.

Turning to Rou, he gave a small, knowing smirk. "It’s good to see you again."

Rou opened his mouth to respond, but before he could, Freyr shifted his attention to Elder Dante. "I’ll leave him in your hands."

And then, in a blink, he moved. The world blurred as Freyr lifted me effortlessly into his arms and took off in vamp speed. The wind howled past my ears, the trees nothing but shadows streaking by.

When we finally stopped, we were deep within a secluded garden hidden in the forest. The air was thick with the scent of night-blooming flowers, and the moonlight filtered through the trees, casting silver light over us. Freyr set me down gently, but before I could find my footing, he pulled me against him, his strong arms caging me in. His fingers traced my jaw, his eyes drinking me in as if making sure I was truly here.

"I missed you so much," he whispered, his voice rough and honest.

Then he kissed me again, slow this time, deep and claiming. And I let him, because Freyr Kayne was the only one who had ever owned me, body, and soul.

The moment Freyr was in my arms, I knew I would not let go anytime soon. His cool skin pressed against mine, and I breathed him in, his scent a mix of night air, a hint of blood, and something uniquely his. I buried my face in the crook of his neck, inhaling deeply as his arms wrapped tightly around me.

"Seven days," I murmured against his skin. "Felt like seven years."

Freyr exhaled, his lips grazing my temple. "I know," he whispered. His voice was like silk laced with steel, soft but unyielding. "I counted every damn hour."

He pulled back just enough to cup my face, his crimson eyes filled with emotions only I got to see. Then, without hesitation, he kissed me. Slow at first, savoring, as if he were relearning the shape of my mouth, the taste of me. But it did not stay soft for long.

I tightened my grip on him, pulling him flush against me, and he sighed into the kiss, melting into me as if we could somehow fuse into one. His fingers trailed down my neck, his touch both gentle and possessive, leaving a fire in its wake.

"I hate being away from you," I admitted between kisses, my forehead resting against his.

Freyr chuckled, his breath warm against my lips. "The feeling is mutual"

His hands moved to my back, holding me close as if afraid I would disappear. I tilted his chin up, meeting his gaze. "I felt the anger in your mind, "He nodded, but the flicker of vulnerability in his eye, and decided to soften my voice as I reassured him. "You can always rely on me and let me help you"

His eyes darkened with emotion, and instead of responding, he kissed me again, deep, slow, and filled with all the things he did not say aloud. I felt them anyway. I wrapped my arms around him and held him close, relishing the warmth between us. No words were needed now. Just this, kisses that made time irrelevant, embraces that erased the distance, and the quiet understanding that no matter how long we were apart, we would always find our way back to each other.

Minutes later, Freyr and I sat in the secluded garden, the soft glow of the lanterns casting a golden hue over the stone benches and the overgrown vines curling around the wooden trellises. The air carried the faint scent of night jasmine, mixing with the crisp scent of Freyr himself.

He exhaled, running a hand along the curved armrest of his seat. "This garden... it’s part of Kayne land," he murmured. "My father built it." There was something in his voice—a quiet sorrow that made me reach for his hand. He did not pull away, only turned his palm upward so our fingers intertwined.

"Dunco Kayne?" I asked softly.

Freyr nodded, his gaze distant. "He was the former lord of the coven. He wanted a place untouched by bloodshed, a sanctuary." A humorless chuckle left his lips. I squeezed his hand, but before I could ask more, he took a breath and shifted. His crimson eyes met mine, sharp now, focused. "You asked why I was furious earlier. I will tell you."

I nodded, waiting.

"In the past week, I found a witch wolf in Blood Stone Mountain." His voice was laced with frustration. "The wolf was she wolf. An old woman and the one who killed my Pa. She was after the Kayne Stone, and she exposed herself when I set foot in the mountain and released my power." His fingers twitched and he added "I killed her"

I patiently listened in waiting, hoping to tell him later that the wolf was from the Colbat family, and it was the one that had gone to Hanka Island to seek power, but Althea had intercepted her and wounded her, and the witch disappeared.

Freyr continued, his tone turning colder. "I took the matter to the Coven Council, but they dragged their feet, debating, stalling. Until I put an end to their nonsense. Cassius, Lord Marcel’s brother, had been harboring the creature." I felt my pulse spike at the name. Cassius had always been a schemer, lurking in the shadows of power. Freyr’s expression darkened. "I beheaded him myself."

A moment of silence stretched between us. I watched him, the flicker of firelight reflecting in his gaze, the weight of what he had done pressing down on him.

"Freyr..." I murmured, but he shook his head.

"There was no other way." His voice was steady, but I could see the tension in his shoulders, the exhaustion lining his features. "And that was just the beginning. I pushed the elders to make changes in the royal guards, too many were corrupt; too many had been turned against their own." He let out a slow breath, rubbing his temple. "They resisted at first. Of course, they did. But they had no choice but to agree given the magnitude of the matter."

I studied him, the weight of leadership pressing down on him. He had done what needed to be done, but I knew the burden was never light. Reaching forward, I cupped his jaw, forcing him to meet my gaze. "You did what had to be done," I told him firmly. "And you did it alone, I promise to assist you in the future"

His eyes softened, and for the first time since he started speaking, the tension in his shoulders eased. He leaned into my touch, exhaling as if my presence alone was enough to lighten the weight. "I missed you," he whispered.

I brushed my thumb over his cheek. "I’m here now."

Freyr leaned back against the stone bench, his crimson eyes never leaving mine. The firelight flickered in the enclosed garden, casting long shadows across his sharp features. He had been quiet for a while, his mind replaying the chaos he had endured. Then, finally, he turned to me.

"How did you get to Paradise Coven?" His voice was softer now, but his curiosity was sharp.

"After you left Bay Shifter Pack, things spiraled quickly. Aqua and Fennel escaped the jail cells. No one saw it coming, and by the time we realized, they had vanished into the night. That next day, Rou showed up at Bay Shifter. "With his children, Ralph and Rita," I clarified.

Freyr hummed, his fingers idly tapping against his thigh. "And then?"

"We split up as they went after Aqua and Rou and I went to Ragar Mountain," I said, my voice steady. "I needed answers. I had to know what was happening to me, to the real, and more so about our mating bond and the threat to it"

Freyr’s expression darkened slightly, as if he already sensed what I was about to say.

"The Guardian of the Mountain was waiting for me," I continued. "He told me the same thing Gerod the dragon told us about the evil is rising, and it is tied to me. To us." My throat tightened, but I forced the words out. "The Lycan awakening is fueling it. And because I am mated to you, it is only growing stronger."

Freyr inhaled sharply, his jaw tightening. I continued, "The Guardian said the world is shifting, that forces long buried are clawing their way back to the surface. The balance is breaking, Freyr. And we are at the center of it."

A heavy silence stretched between us. The night wind rustled the leaves overhead, and in the distance, an owl hooted.

"But I have some news for you, "I ran a hand through my hair. "We met an army of vampires along the way."

His brows furrowed. "An army?"

I nodded grimly. "They were infected. Their bodies, they were not their own anymore. They marched towards the east of the Vampire coven." Freyr sat up straighter, his entire body tensing. "They moved like puppets," I continued. "Their eyes were glazed over, their veins blackened. And they were strong, unnaturally so. "

Freyr let out a slow breath, his gaze dark and unreadable. "So that moved the vampire army from Bloodstone Mountain before we went in"

"It seems so" I nodded.

Freyr fell silent, his fingers tightening into fists. I could almost feel the weight of his thoughts, the storm brewing behind his composed expression. After a moment, he looked at me, his gaze softening just a little. "I can’t believe that you are here, in Paradise Coven amidst all the trouble"

I held his stare. "I would go through worse if it meant getting to your plus, I need to meet your mother, Sierra. Althea mentioned it and even the Guardian of the Haven Lycan Chambers did.

"Come on, let me take you to Ma" Frery pulled me up and we walked out of the secret garden and made way for the Kayne Home. "
