Bloodline Reckoning: The System Made Me Filthy Rich -
Chapter 35: His Plan
Chapter 35: His Plan
When Noah entered the VIP room, he saw Alicia no longer on the bed but sitting on the sofa with Jason. Her face still looked pale, and her eyes appeared puffy after she had cried so hard.
"Brother Noah..." Alicia cried out as she rose from her seat upon seeing him.
Noah held her close, allowing her to cry again in his arms. He nodded when he saw Jason gesture to leave the room to give them a private family moment.
After he felt Alicia’s frail body tremble in his arms, he tightened his grip around her.
"Alice, how about we sit down and have a chat?"
"A-Alright..." Alicia nodded and walked weakly to the sofa, settling beside him while trying to wipe away her tears. "I’m sorry... I still can’t stop crying. This is too much for me to handle."
"I know it is hard for us. You can cry as much as you want, Alice..." Noah gently said, doing his best to stay strong for her.
Alicia took a deep breath, trying to steady her emotions. She was really curious about what Noah would pick, especially when it came to her future.
She understood that Noah wasn’t her biological brother, and now she was confronting life without either of her parents. She also lacked distant family members because neither of her parents had siblings.
This may be the first time Alicia had ever felt scared and utterly alone in her entire life.
Now, she does not know how to start the conversation with Noah, worried that her words will hurt his feelings and make him sad or worse. Angry.
Alicia lowered her head, staring at her intertwined fingers resting in her lap while attempting to find the right words to ask him.
After a while, she omitted and suppressed her sadness and expressed everything in her mind as calmly as possible.
"Brother Noah, what will happen to Mom now? Will they bury her soon? Where? And...And what will happen to me next? I don’t know what to do now, brother... please tell me...Please."
Her voice shook, and her eyes brimmed with tears as she gazed into his soft blue eyes.
Noah was slightly surprised to hear her last question and noticed the slight tremor in her gaze.
He quickly explained their Mother’s condition and the funeral plans. They would be able to proceed more rapidly because there was no other close or extended family they needed to inform and wait for.
But Noah didn’t tell her that someone had actually killed their Mother. Someone had injected poison into their Mother and let her die on the operating table.
"Don’t stress yourself about it. I’m here to take care of Everything."
Noah smiled when he noticed she was no longer as sad as before. A look of relief clearly flashed in her eyes.
But seconds later, her gaze shifted to worry, "How about me, brother? I mean..."
"Alice, why are you asking like that?" Noah gently interrupted her before she could finish her thoughts.
"From now on, I promise to take care of you. We might not share the same blood, but you are my little sister, and I am your brother. Please, never doubt that. Not even in your thoughts!"
"I’m sorry, brother. I will never think that way anymore... I give you my word!" Alicia smiled, her joyful tears glistening in her eyes. Her heart filled with warmth as she saw Noah’s sincerity.
Noah didn’t say anything about it. Instead, he gently asked, "If I’m not mistaken, you already took your final exam and are just waiting for the result, right?"
Alicia nodded. She didn’t have to go to school today. However, she had to go because her teacher asked her to submit the form for her university application.
Noah finally shared his thoughtful future plans for her, which he had made even before their Mother passed away.
"After we settle Mom in her final resting place, I’ll take you along with me to Opal City before we fly to the capital. Don’t worry about your education—I’ll cover Everything for you! Just focus on your studies. You must make our parents in heaven proud with your amazing achievements..."
Alicia nodded enthusiastically, completely agreeing with her brother. She was determined to study hard and make both their parents and him proud.
They continued chatting late into the night, planning their move to the capital.
...
When the night almost ended, and Alicia finally got some rest, Noah looked for Jason. They met outside the room because they didn’t want to disturb Alicia’s sleep.
Jason patiently waited for Noah to speak, but after several minutes, Noah remained standing by the window, deep in thought, staring at the moonlight illuminating the dark sky.
"Noah, I’m sorry for what happened to your family..." Jason broke the silence.
Noah answered without glancing at him, "Thanks, Jason. Did you hear everything from Seven?"
"Yes, he assigned me several tasks. He also requested that I report the results to you."
Noah glanced over at Jason, his eyes shining with curiosity. "Did they find the mastermind behind my Mother’s death?" This was the only news he was eager to hear at the moment.
"No. There is no digital trace. No digital evidence is available, but Seven’s team is pursuing the individual. The last I heard, the person who met with the doctor was headed to Opal City."
"Opal City?" Noah frowned.
"Yes, I didn’t request the details. However, Seven mentioned they intentionally didn’t capture the messenger to direct them to the mastermind."
"I see!" Noah nodded slightly, showing his agreement. "What about the situation with the doctor and everyone involved in this hospital?"
"After our investigation, it turned out that the doctor worked alone. We dealt with him quietly because we didn’t want to alert the mastermind that we were aware of the situation," Jason explained.
He continued to update Noah about the police’s progress and all the evidence they submitted, including the full autopsy report.
After Jason finished his report, he said, "Everything is all set for your Mother’s funeral. I’ve already scheduled it for tomorrow, but if you’d prefer to change the date, I can instruct them accordingly."
"No. Don’t change the date. You can go ahead and process it tomorrow. We didn’t wait for anyone, and there’s no other reason to delay!"
Jason was stunned to hear that, but he said nothing else. He simply nodded and mentioned that he would handle the funeral tomorrow.
...
Nearly thirty minutes after Jason left, Noah stood by the window, still absorbed in his thoughts.
He lingered for a moment until the buzzing sounds of his phone startled him.
His heart raced when he saw Matthew’s name on the phone screen. He felt nervous since it was nearly two in the morning.
"Matthew! Great to hear from you in this ungodly hour. It must be something important. Did you find him?" he asked nervously.
