Chapter 51: All roads lead to Rome

The death of eighty-two people that happened inside the red-light district sent waves through the city.

What happened?

Why did so many people die?

Everyone asked the same question.

Did a gate open, and a monster rush happen?

Perhaps a villain attacked the city?

It could even be a gang war situation.

They patiently waited in front of their TVs to find more information about the situation.

None of the above situations was favorable to anyone.

If a gate opened, stray monsters or mana beasts might be hiding within the city.

They would have to be careful when moving through the city.

Monsters and mana beasts come in all shapes and forms. So, one or two with stealth abilities roaming the city was not out of the question.

And if the incident was caused by villains, it would be even more troublesome.

Villains don’t care about anything other than their welfare. They often behave erratically and irrationally.

It would be difficult to track and capture them.

While gang wars may seem more problematic, in actuality, it was the least. Their movements would be traceable, and with SMB’s and police’s help, they could be stopped immediately.

Anyway, it could become a big deal. That was why everyone was interested in the news.

"From the testimony of survivors, the incident was caused by a single individual. His face and body were covered in a blood-like liquid. Here, let me show you a drawing."

The news anchor said as he displayed a drawing on the screen.

It displayed an image of Oliver wearing his blood armour. His body was eight feet tall, towering over the rest. Five blood tentacles were sprouting from the back, near his scapula.

"The monstrous-looking creature you are seeing is indeed a human. From the testimonies of the victims, we heard he was capable of speaking."

"However, questions regarding why and who are still under investigation."

"The people who died are from a newly formed cult called Tempus. The information regarding them would be publicized at a later time." The anchor said and ended his words.

Immediately, the TV screen flashed to show advertisements.

Meanwhile, the people who were watching the news also felt relieved. The situation was not as bad as they expected.

Among those who were watching the news were Oliver and his family.

"Look at what’s happening to society. Huh!" Oliver’s father, James, sighed.

His voice traveled through the main hall, catching the attention of everyone.

"Oliver, you should stay away from places like that." He then turned to warn his son.

The red-light district was usually dangerous. And now, a psychopath was running around killing cultists. James didn’t want his son to go anywhere near them, not realising his dear son was the real culprit.

"Hm." Oliver nodded.

Meanwhile, Arin, who was nearby, looked at Oliver with fiery eyes.

It looked like his eyes were spitting fire.

Unlike the rest, who didn’t know much about Oliver’s ability, he had seen the tentacles of blood.

It looked exactly like his brother’s.

Did his brother kill that many people?

Why?

Oliver was not exactly trying to hide it from his brother. So, he gave a vaguely threatening smile.

Immediately, Arim turned around. He was scared to ask.

Meanwhile, Oliver lay on the sofa and continued to watch the news.

He scoffed when the news anchor said more info about the cult would be revealed later.

’It would never happen. They would never allow their connection with demons, human trafficking, and superhumans to come into the general public’s view.’

The ’they’ Oliver was talking about was the high society of the city.

From his understanding, the cult had a lot of dealings with very important people in power. For example, executives, business people, politicians, and high-ranking superhumans.

None of them would want their dark dealing to come under public scrutiny. So, Oliver was sure that the case would be buried.

Even if a thousand people had died, the same would have happened.

He then turned to look at the artist’s rendering of his appearance.

He was unamused.

Even if they found him, he had enough leverage to force them away because of the ledgers he stole from the cult. So, he was not concerned.

And besides that, no one really knows the full extent of his abilities. At most, the Thunder Emperor or his brother could recognise him with the blood tentacles. However, he was not the only one with similar abilities.

In fact, there were a lot.

For example, one of the guys was the villain Root stole the blood to mana conversion artifact from.

He was a known villain who showed similar abilities to control and manipulate blood like Oliver.

No, truth be told, Oliver was mimicking that man’s ability to throw off the investigators.

Due to his experience, Oliver had found many ways to use blood. For example, he could create a blood fog, an aerosol of blood and air, to use like a smoke screen. He could also evaporate water in the blood to make sticky grime and glue-like substances.

However, he hid these unique abilities so that he would be less recognisable.

And, his even more unique ability of enhanced healing and reviving has yet to be known by the public.

As an unregistered superhuman who had just passed military training, no one would think he was the man who had massacred the cultists.

’And I didn’t kill all eighty-two people. Did they pin some random murders on me?’ Oliver thought.

For the next few hours, Oliver chilled on the sofa and watched TV.

When everyone left, he went back to his room and began to browse through the info he had collected until now.

There were documents showing a list of all tailors.

There was a scanned digital copy of the ledgers of the cult.

Then, there was information about M-fresh and all its affiliates.

Oliver spent the next few days reading through it without missing a word.

Finally, he came to a simple conclusion.

’All roads lead to Rome.’

’Any approach I take would lead me to demons.’

’I need to kill all of them to get some peace.’
