Blood Holy Scripture: True Ancestor Charlotte de Castel -
Chapter 62: -55- The Angry Great Priest
Chapter 62: -55- The Angry Great Priest
On the boundary between the abandoned district and the western district of the city, stood a splendid manor.
Rushing from the distance, a carriage arrived and entered the manor, finally stopping in front of the manor villa.
The side door of the carriage opened, and a figure shrouded in a cloak stepped down.
He rejected the valet’s service and strode vigorously into the hall.
And as soon as he entered the hall, he roared, his aged voice full of anger:
"Jordan! You little bastard! Get out here!"
The angry roar caused echoes in the hall, scaring the maids to tremble.
A moment later, accompanied by hurried footsteps, a tall and handsome figure descended the stairs.
If Charlotte were here, she would see that this man was none other than the young noble, Jordan de Gaston, who had been scared witless by Sebastian at the Duke’s banquet and made a fool of himself in front of her.
Seeing the cloaked figure, Jordan’s expression changed slightly, and he became somewhat nervous.
Waving his hand, he ordered the maids to withdraw, then put on a respectful and ingratiating face:
"Great... Great Priest Lord, what brings you here?"
The visitor snorted, removing his cloak.
He was none other than the Great Priest of the Bold Duchy—Linus de Caen!
The Great Priest looked coldly at the young noble, his aged voice suppressing his anger:
"You should know why I am here."
"Tell me, was it you, you little bastard, who told that guy about the thorny rose affair?"
Hearing the Great Priest’s words, Jordan’s eyes dodged, his face filled with panic:
"Great... Great Priest Lord, please...hear me out..."
"I...I had no choice..."
"No choice my ass! I’ve protected you so many times, is this how you repay me? Are you not afraid I’ll reveal your involvement in those matters to your father?!"
The Great Priest said angrily.
Jordan’s complexion turned pale, and he nearly collapsed onto the ground.
Just then, accompanied by a distant sigh, a calm and gentle voice came from the stairs:
"Lord Linus, please calm your anger."
"Getting too angry isn’t good for your health, especially for someone of your age."
With that, the sound of steady footsteps followed as a man clad in a Mage’s robe slowly walked down.
Seeing the man, the Great Priest’s gaze slightly hardened.
He narrowed his eyes, his expression turning cold:
"Is it you? You’re here too?"
"Humph! Just in time! The Blood Demon case from yesterday, shouldn’t you give me an explanation?"
The man smiled slightly.
He motioned for Jordan to leave, then spoke indifferently:
"An explanation? I wonder what kind of explanation the Great Priest would require? Do you wish to ask about the missing girls or perhaps about the thorny rose left at the scene?"
The Great Priest’s expression immediately became grim:
"I must remind you, you’ve overstepped bounds, don’t forget our agreement!"
"Agreement? Hmm? Wasn’t it the Great Priest Lord who first breached the agreement?"
The man said calmly.
"What do you mean?"
The Great Priest’s expression darkened.
"What do I mean? It’s exactly as it sounds. You made an agreement with the young mistress of the Castel family without my consent—where does that leave me?"
The man spoke leisurely.
Speaking, his voice also turned cold:
"Don’t forget, our original agreement was that you could have the young mistress of the Castel family, but the Castel Domain must be mine!"
The Great Priest narrowed his eyes, saying:
"That was just a temporary necessity, idle promises—I didn’t sign a contract with her."
"When I successfully become the Chief Priest in half a year, you can do whatever you want with her, and I can even cooperate!"
"Oh? Is that so? I fear that once you elatedly whisk her away to safety, you’ll have forgotten this old friend. Besides, it’s not up to the Holy Royal Court to decide."
The man chuckled.
The Great Priest fell silent.
He narrowed his eyes slightly:
"What are you really trying to say?"
"Nothing more than a reminder, don’t forget our agreement."
"I know you’re eager to make your mark and increase your bargaining chips; that’s normal, but please don’t mess with my plans."
The man said coldly.
After hearing the man’s words, a flicker of rage appeared in the Great Priest’s eyes, but it quickly gave way to wariness.
He took a deep breath, suppressing his anger, and said:
"What do you want?"
"I want the Church to stop protecting Charlotte of Castel and not to make divine right demands over the Castel Domain."
"That’s impossible!"
The Great Priest rejected it flatly.
"Then don’t blame me for tripping you up."
The man said unhurriedly.
"You! You’re asking for death!"
The Great Priest exploded in rage.
He grabbed the man, and the terrifying pressure of a Third Tier Blazing Sun was immense.
The man turned a bit pale, but managed a difficult smile:
"Please, stay calm."
"If you kill me, the matter of the Evil God’s resurgence and all those things you’ve done before... they will be spread through the streets of Bold by tomorrow."
The Great Priest’s face shifted.
His hands trembled, his eyes red with fury as he looked at the man, but eventually, he resignedly let him go.
"That’s better, Great Priest Lord."
The man said leisurely.
The Great Priest closed his eyes tightly, grinding his teeth:
"I really regret it, having listened to your damned talk! Getting on your treacherous boat!"
"Hey, everyone has regrets in life, but dwelling on them won’t do— we still need to look forward."
The man said with a laugh.
After finishing his speech, he hinted meaningfully,
"Don’t be too angry, perhaps... helping me obtain the Castel Domain as soon as possible could also be beneficial for you."
The Great Priest’s heart stirred,
"What do you mean?"
The man paused for a moment, then spoke leisurely,
"I’ve heard that the great Bold Duke’s old injury has relapsed, and I’m afraid he doesn’t have many days left."
"If you are expecting him to lend you a hand, I’m afraid that hope is going to be dashed."
"His body has already been overtaxed from years of war, and he can no longer accept Healing from Divine Arts."
Hearing the man’s words, the Great Priest’s expression shifted slightly,
"Really?"
"Heh heh, otherwise, why do you think he’s so eager to establish his illegitimate son, Laino, as his heir?"
The man chuckled.
The Great Priest fell silent.
His expression kept changing.
Seeing the Great Priest deep in thought, the man smiled,
"It seems you’ve come to the same conclusion."
"The Bold Duchy is about to fall into chaos, and at this time... whoever secures the Castel Domain first might be able to lend you a hand."
"Heh heh, Castel is rich enough to rival countries, capable of offering a substantial sum of money to support your ascension. Sometimes we lack not the connections but rather enough gold tana."
The Great Priest looked at him coldly,
"Your goal isn’t just Castel, is it?"
The man chuckled twice without answering.
The Great Priest watched him for a few seconds before saying coldly,
"The Church’s word, once given, will not be retracted; the Church will still nominally protect Castel."
"Of course, as for your actions, I will turn a blind eye."
The man smiled,
"That’s enough. Rest assured, I’m a man of my word. I won’t kill her but will train her well before sending her to you. Of course... as far as everyone else is concerned, she’s already dead."
The Great Priest scoffed with a somewhat softened expression.
He paused briefly and said,
"No need for training, I want her as she is."
"Furthermore... don’t be too confident. Even without the Church’s protection, Castel still has hidden powers. Last night, two Demon Hunting Knights sent to protect her by the Church were taken out as stalkers, without even catching a glimpse of the assailant."
"That’s not your concern, I have my own plans,"
said the man with a smile.
"And about the resurgence of the Evil God..."
"You need not worry. As everyone knows, the devoted Great Priest has never hidden the news of the Evil God’s resurgence. It’s all rumors."
"Hmph! Remember what you’ve said!"
The Great Priest glared at him viciously before storming off.
"Farewell!"
shouted the man loudly.
Only when the Great Priest had left in his carriage did the man chuckle softly and turn to go back upstairs.
He arrived in his study and sat down at his desk, a cluster of dark shadows slowly emerged behind him, eventually solidifying into a human form clad in a black hood, hunched over.
Seeing the hunched figure beside him, the man smiled faintly,
"Back already? How did the investigation I asked for go?"
"Hehehe, it’s the Rose Association. The people secretly protecting her must be from the Rose Association. My Blood Servant died on the Rose Association’s territory, and this morning, a maid who is likely affiliated with the Rose Association appeared at Castel Manor."
rasped the hunched figure.
"The Rose Association? They really are a persistent bunch! For years they’ve scurried about, and before I’ve had the chance to deal with them, they’ve stuck to us like annoying flies."
The man frowned.
"So... how do you plan to deal with these pesky flies?"
asked the hunched figure, obviously intrigued.
The man snorted lightly and pulled out a stack of parchment from beneath his desk,
"I intended to deal with them later, but it seems... I must act sooner. The leader of the Rose Association is a significant nuisance that has to be eliminated earlier."
"Having the support of the Rose Association suggests that Castel has quite the backing..."
said the hunched figure, not committing to a judgment, as it casually perused the parchment,
"Heh, sheltering Heresy Sub-humans wanted by the law? Smuggling contraband? Involved in the Blood Demon case? Affiliated with the Adam Church? And... conspiring with the Evil God? Tsk tsk, where did you find all these juicy details? Some of them must be forged, right?"
"That’s not your concern. Just take these to the Judgement Court; this will be enough to damn the lot of them to Hell."
"The Rose Association... from top to bottom, I want them all... dead!"
said the man icily.
"Heh, the problem is, who will you send? The Judgement Court always places great importance on the source of information. Don’t tell me you plan to report anonymously; that’s useless, the Judgement Court is surrounded by eyes! Even a bird could trace back the source to you!"
"I have the right person for the job."
said the man nonchalantly.
After speaking, he lightly rang a bell on his desk.
Shortly after, there was a soft knock on the study door.
"Come in."
commanded the man with authority.
With a creak, the door opened, and a gentle and beautiful priestess walked in.
She bowed respectfully to the man,
"Count."
"Rise, the Great Priest has left, you don’t need to hide anymore."
The man nodded slightly.
As he spoke, he propped his chin with both hands, looking at the beautiful priestess with a faint smile,
"How many years have you been with me?"
The priestess answered respectfully,
"It has been seven years."
"Seven years, eh..."
sighed the man lightly.
"In seven years, you’ve become a First Tier priest; the Church trusts you, the Demon Hunting Institute trusts you, and even the normally strict Judgement Court... has had quite a few Judgement Knights receive your Healing, owe you favors."
With a faint smile, he continued,
"Lotti, there are two things I now need you to do."
