Chapter 489: -21- Demon Contract

Guided by an inexplicable intuition, Charlotte quickly located her target.

It was the bookshelf in the study.

Manipulating Bertrand’s body, Charlotte approached the bookshelf and began searching. She soon sensed the call coming from behind the bookshelf.

This did not surprise her.

After all, Holy Scripture Fragments are pieces of a Divine Artifact; they could not possibly be placed out in the open. It seemed they were hidden in some sort of secret compartment or chamber.

Using the faint memories left by Bertrand, Charlotte searched the bookshelf and soon discovered a hidden mechanism on its inner side.

She gently triggered it, and with a light click, the bookshelf revealed a secret space behind it.

It was indeed a secret chamber, but quite small, at most four or five square meters—about the size of a bathroom in Charlotte’s previous life.

This was a hidden storage room.

The storage room was filled with boxes and scrolls of various sizes, and on the innermost wall hung various weapons and armor. Near the entrance, there was a recessed bookshelf built into one wall, neatly lined with books.

Charlotte’s gaze swept around the room and quickly noticed a box at the top.

It was the newest box, likely made of mithril, shimmering under the dim magic light. It was engraved with intricate patterns and inscriptions, and inlaid with red magic stones.

Even with her mediocre magic skills, Charlotte recognized it; this must be a Sealing chest, and the familiar calling was coming precisely from within.

Clearly, even as a Blood Demon Priest, Bertrand did not dare to leave the Holy Scripture Fragments out in the open. They were harmless to Charlotte, but the curse they carried was still dreadful for other Bloodline members.

The chest required a key to open. Charlotte thought for a moment and after searching her body, she quickly found a storage ring.

She had discovered it when she changed her clothes.

High Tier Transcendents often liked to carry their commonly used items in storage devices. Sebastian did so, Yulster did the same, and so did the present Blood Demon Priest.

Since Bertrand was dead, the spiritual imprints on the storage ring had dissipated, and Charlotte naturally invaded it with her spiritual power.

The storage space didn’t contain much—just some gold tana, some spare clothes, some common casting materials, an identity badge of the Blood Demon Church, and a set of keys.

Charlotte took out the keys, compared them for a while, found the corresponding one, inserted it into the lock of the chest, and turned it gently.

Click, the chest finally opened, and when Charlotte saw what was inside, her eyes widened in surprise.

Inside the chest were a large stack of Holy Scripture Fragments, at least thirty or forty sheets!

Her heart surged with joy; she never expected Bertrand to have collected so many Fragments!

But then it made sense—this was the Royal Capital, Lutecia, the city with the highest number of Transcendents in the New Moon Kingdom, and Bertrand was an Earl-ranked Bloodline member. It was only natural he could collect so many Fragments.

Charlotte couldn’t wait to examine the Fragments and noticed that most were still of the Dark Path. Moreover, some didn’t evoke that familiar sense in her.

Upon closer inspection, she frustratingly discovered that those were counterfeit items.

Really, counterfeit Holy Scripture Fragments too.

Fortunately, there weren’t many counterfeits. After separating out the spurious ones, there were still thirty-one genuine Fragments.

Charlotte was pleased as she picked them up, and simultaneously connected with the Blood Holy Scripture. In her Conscious Space, the Blood Holy Scripture radiated brilliantly, and the Holy Scripture Fragments in her hands began to levitate, as if endowed with life. They circled around her before entering her body.

More accurately speaking, using Bertrand’s body, they entered Charlotte’s Conscious Space and eventually returned to the Blood Holy Scripture.

Crimson brilliance blossomed on the Blood Holy Scripture. The hefty tome opened by itself, and lines of new text slowly emerged on its pages.

Charlotte diverted her attention to examine it and discovered new Dark Magic spells, from the Initial Tier "Dark Touch" to the High Tier "Death Gaze," over twenty in total.

In addition to the Dark Path spells, two new Spirit Path and Wildness Path spells appeared—one to strengthen spiritual power, "Iron Heart," and another to fortify the body, "Giant’s Strength." Both were Middle Tier spells, corresponding to Silver Moon.

Pleased with these new spells, Charlotte reflected.

With the Holy Scripture Fragments being collected, more and more Bloodline spells were being recorded in the Blood Holy Scripture. Frankly, she was not short of spells to learn; sometimes she even felt overwhelmed. If it weren’t for the "Inheritance" feature of the Blood Holy Scripture, she’d probably be lost in her studies.

Having an array of backup spells was not a bad thing, even though Charlotte had learned many spells that she never had the opportunity to use—but it was better than not learning at all.

It’s all about foundation; one never knows when they might come in handy.

Of all the spells, Charlotte found "Iron Heart" to be the most useful. With the Blood Divine Power, she could often wield Divine Power for a dimensional strike, but controlling Divine Power consumed a lot of spiritual power. A spell that strengthened spiritual power would greatly enhance her resilience.
