Chapter 411: -159- The Embarrassed Third Prince
Charlotte looked at Count Yulster, whose posture radiated grace, and thought inwardly that the Bloodline Count’s capacity for acceptance was indeed formidable.
She cleared her throat and nodded,
"Of course, Lord Yulster, all that you have done is seen, and your efforts will be firmly remembered."
Charlotte’s words left Count Yulster quite satisfied, as seen by the even brighter smile on his face.
He glanced around before asking expectantly,
"My lord, I would like to meet the great Ancestor; may I inquire if you could pass on a message?"
Charlotte did not answer but instead arched an eyebrow, countering,
"Oh? Is there something you wish to report, Lord Yulster?"
Yulster touched his nose awkwardly,
"Well... not exactly, but since I am here in Castel, as a favored of the Ancestor, I naturally would like to pay my respects in person..."
After he finished, he added with a hint of nervousness,
"Of course, if it’s inconvenient, then never mind. I understand that the Ancestor’s identity is still a secret..."
Watching him be so extremely cautious, Charlotte smiled and said,
"If needed, you will be summoned."
"Alright, I understand,"
Yulster sighed and nodded.
He then asked,
"So... is there anything else I need to do? As you know, those Transcendents I brought with me can’t stay for too long to avoid detection."
Charlotte pondered for a moment, then smiled back,
"Indeed, there is."
"Lord Yulster, although the war between Bold and Castel may have been largely decided after last night’s battle, the rebellion in Castel has not yet ended."
"More than ten days ago, I had already sent troops to continue suppressing the rebellion. A few days ago, I received news that my troops had advanced into the heartland of the rebel-held territory. However, the rebels have not given up their resistance. Instead, they have chosen to defend their fortifications, and progress has been problematic..."
"I have already ordered the Mage Tower to broadcast the results of last night’s battle, which the rebels will soon know, but... given the support they have from the Blood Demon Church behind them, I’m not sure if they will continue to stubbornly resist."
"Blood Demon Church?"
Count Yulster’s eyes narrowed and a glint of interest appeared on his face upon hearing Charlotte’s words.
She nodded,
"Yes, exactly them."
"Considering that we’ll have to negotiate with Bold and the Violet Duchy next, and the sheer number of prisoners that need to be dealt with, plus the pursuit of those shattered troops who fled north, we likely won’t be able to spare any efforts for a while..."
"So... I hope that you will be willing to lead the troops, continue sailing northward, and assist my army in quelling the rebellion in Castel."
This was an excuse.
The truth was that Charlotte did not want to mobilize the army northward again. After all, each time she moved the troops, it cost her money. Not to mention the Castel Domain was so narrow and elongated from north to south, it took time for reinforcements to arrive. It would be faster for Yulster to go by sea.
Since he had come all the way and almost all of his men were Transcendents, it would be a waste not to make full use of them.
Hearing Charlotte’s words, Yulster seemed to contemplate,
"Is this... the Ancestor’s will?"
"Of course,"
Charlotte nodded.
Yulster bowed slightly, accepting the request,
"I understand. I will continue heading north with my men. Whether it’s because of the relationship between Nais and Castel, my connection with the Ancestor, or our score with the Blood Demon Church... helping Castel through this crisis is something I ought to do."
Charlotte smiled,
"Then... I look forward to hearing your good news."
After meeting with Charlotte, Count Yulster continued northward aboard an oar-sail warship with those supernaturalists from the night raid allied forces.
They left all the spoils of war and prisoners behind, not taking a single one with them.
"These mercenaries... their actions are indeed surprising; they didn’t take any spoils of war, leaving it all for us,"
Viscount Lien Castel watched the oar-sail fleet set sail and gradually drift away, his face showing a peculiar expression, and he couldn’t help but comment.
Charlotte smiled:
"Perhaps, this mercenary group leader is a man of integrity."
Viscount Lien Castel: ...
He gave Charlotte another odd look, barely suppressing the urge to retort.
"Count, the allied forces have been defeated, and the lost territories of the North Port Viscount Domain have been successively recovered. Shall we march south to counterattack next?"
The Old Viscount inquired.
Charlotte pondered for a moment, then said:
"Let’s head south, but there’s no need to deploy too many troops, just enough to reclaim the fallen territories."
"Count, shouldn’t we counterattack into the Violet Duchy? The Violet Duchy has suffered a significant defeat; perhaps this is a good opportunity!"
A noble couldn’t help but ask.
Charlotte shook her head:
"No, the Violet Duchy only utilized the Duke’s personal troops for this war; most of the noble lords did not participate. If we counterattack, it would trigger a full-scale war with Violet."
"We don’t have the resources for that right now, just keep a close watch on the prisoners, and wait for their envoys to come for peace talks."
After speaking, she then asked:
"What about the Third Prince? Have we found his whereabouts?"
The nobles looked at each other, shaking their heads in shame, both hesitant and anxious:
"Not... not yet..."
After the battle, they seemed to hold Charlotte in even higher awe.
"If we haven’t found him, then let it be; he’s no longer important,"
Charlotte mused aloud.
...
The Third Prince had no idea how long he had been running.
All he knew was that he had been escaping, constantly on the run.
As news of the allied forces’ utter defeat spread, those conquered territories in the southern part of Castel swiftly switched loyalties, with local nobles leading the charge to raise the banner of Castel once again.
Throughout his journey, the Third Prince saw that the nobles of the Northern Land were all rising in rebellion, leaving no survivors among the already thin ranks of the stationed allied forces.
"Dammit! These damned traitors!"
The Third Prince cursed furiously.
He continued his ragged flight, dodging those defecting nobles as well as the pursuers from Castel.
Only when he finally reached the border of Castel and Violet, escorted by soldiers, did he begin to recover from his fright.
By this time, it had already been a week since the North Port battle.
"Quick... open the gates! I am Prince Philip!"
Beneath the border fortress of Violet, a disheveled Third Prince, supported by soldiers, hoarsely called to the tightly shut city gates.
After a moment, the gate slowly lowered, and well-equipped knights filed out.
Seeing the Violet Knights’ high-quality armor and their reassuring aura of security, the Third Prince breathed a sigh of relief, the anxiety that had been weighing on him easing significantly.
"Quick, prepare a carriage; take me to Linte City, I need to see my maternal grandfather,"
He commanded.
However, the Violet knights didn’t make a move.
