Chapter 379: 131- Open and Honest_2
"Lord Angus, what are you thinking about?"
Lord Angus lifted his head, hesitated for a moment, and respectfully said,
"Count, I think... there seems to be something off about the rebels."
"Oh? What’s off?"
Charlotte slightly raised her eyebrows and asked.
Lord Angus continued,
"Our scouts report that although there are many rebels, their overall strength is much weaker than ours, and most are merely conscripted soldiers."
"If we were to face them in battle, I believe they’d be no match for us."
"Yet, as we closed in, they did not retreat..."
"That’s not normal. Even though they’ve built simple defensive camps by the riverbank, it’s not enough for them to contend against our nearly thirty thousand strong army. Furthermore... the scouts also reported that they haven’t seen the cavalry troops from the Legris Family."
"The cavalry troops of the Legris Family are the elite of the rebels and were once the elite in our Castel’s wars abroad. The main forces being conscripted without retreat, yet no trace of the mobile elite, this... is not normal."
"Count, I fear the rebels... might have a plot!"
Lord Angus’s voice was not very loud.
But after hearing his words, the indignant nobles quickly calmed down.
They looked at each other, and from each other’s eyes, they too saw a hint of suspicion.
"Baron, what then do you suspect the rebels are planning?"
Viscount Lien Castel asked with furrowed brows.
Lord Angus shook his head:
"I don’t know."
"Frankly, I can’t think of any schemes the rebels could have... in the face of absolute power, everything is pointless. Even if the Legris family has cavalry, we also have the support of the Tulip reinforcements..."
"The Tulip reinforcements are the elite standing troops of Bold. With their support, the rebels stand no chance... Yet, now, their demeanor seems too calm."
After hearing Lord Angus’s words, the nobles quickly broke into buzzing discussions.
"Baron, do you think... could the rebels have employed someone from the Blazing Sun?"
A young noble boldly speculated.
In the world of Mireya, Transcendent powers are the decisive factor in warfare, and naturally, the nobles thought of someone more powerful.
Lord Angus shook his head:
"That’s impossible. His Majesty the King has decreed that any Transcendent reaching the Blazing Sun level, after swearing allegiance to the Kingdom, can obtain the title of Count, and some of noble birth might even become a Landed Count. The Legris Family is merely a Viscount family; they couldn’t possibly have employed someone from the Blazing Sun."
"What if it’s mercenaries from Eastern Yonette? The Black Land of Eastern Yonette is a mercenary’s paradise, and it’s not lacking Transcendent mercenaries of Blazing Sun level, and the domain of the Legris family isn’t too far from Eastern Yonette Black Land. Could they have employed a powerful Transcendent mercenary?"
Another noble speculated.
Lord Angus continued to shake his head:
"That’s also impossible. This is not a kingdom-level war; let alone if the Legris family could afford the exorbitant price to hire someone from the Blazing Sun, even if they successfully hired one, the ’New Moon Kingdom Lord Conflict Code’ restricts that a Blazing Sun can only ensure the safety of their employer and would not easily step onto the battlefield of the secular..."
Upon hearing Lord Angus’s words, the nobles furrowed their brows even more deeply.
After pondering for a while, Lord Angus’s expression suddenly changed.
"Count..."
He looked at Charlotte, hesitating.
Seeing his grave expression, Charlotte somewhat guessed what was on his mind and said,
"Baron, feel free to speak your mind."
Lord Angus took a deep breath and said solemnly:
"Count, I have a question I want to ask you..."
"Are you really certain that Count Gaston’s troops are on our side?"
As soon as these words were spoken, the nobles all froze.
But quickly, their expressions shifted, and they fell into turmoil.
Indeed, the rebel’s actions were so strange, there had to be an issue.
The strength and movements of the rebel main forces were not exactly secret. The fact that they remained so calm in the face of the approaching army, to the point of seeming utterly fearless, definitely indicated they had a backup plan.
On the current battlefield, the forces were broadly divided into three factions: the rebels led by the Legris Family, the allied forces led by the Castel Family, and the Bold reinforcements commanded by Count Gaston.
If there were an issue likely to arise, it would be with Bold’s reinforcements.
"This... can’t be, right? Could there be something wrong with the Tulip Count’s reinforcements?"
"Impossible! Are you suggesting Bold’s troops are colluding with Castel’s rebels?!"
"Impossible? What’s so impossible about that? Have you forgotten who hired the Undead Mage to attack the Count when he first returned to his domain?"
"That was merely a rumor circulating within the kingdom, said to be spread by those loyal to the Second Prince. You all know about the competition for the throne between the princes of New Moon. Besides, the Count himself hasn’t said anything!"
The nobles quickly became embroiled in discussions, and the hall once again descended into chaos.
Charlotte, observing the scene which resembled a marketplace, had grown accustomed to this.
Under the feudal decentralization, one couldn’t expect these nobles to revere their lords as divinely as the vassals of the Heavenly Dynasty revered their Emperor...
However, now was the time to disclose certain matters.
With the great battle imminent and being far from North Port, even if there were spies placed by the Third Prince among the nobles, news couldn’t be sent out.
Now that Baron Angus had pointed out the issue, Charlotte felt that the moment to confront her own vassals had arrived.
Thinking this, she stretched out her hand and gently tapped the armrest of her chair.
The sound was not loud, but when combined with the Transcendent Aura she released along with it, it was quite oppressive.
Her Second Tier Silver Moon Transcendent Aura slowly unfolded, immediately drawing everyone’s attention.
Though Charlotte had not fully revealed her power, the aura that far surpassed the First Tier Starry level left the nobles present momentarily stunned and quickly shaken.
"Silver... Silver Moon!"
Viscount Lien Castel’s eyes widened almost to the point of losing his voice.
It was hard for him not to be discomposed, or to be more precise, for any noble who realized Charlotte’s true strength not to lose composure.
Remember, just over a year ago, Charlotte had been a noble without awakened Transcendent powers.
Yet, within merely a year and a half, she had not only broken through Starry, but had now stepped onto Silver Moon!
It was too fast, this speed was far too fast!
For a moment, the nobles inside the tent were silenced.
A noble’s status was tied to their Transcendent power; nobles with weak power, even if they held high titles, lacked sufficient deterrence against those with strong Transcendent abilities.
Now, with her strength at the Second Tier of Silver Moon, coupled with her young age, Charlotte was enough to intimidate the nobles of her domain.
She had chosen this moment to display her power as a way to give more weight to her upcoming words, instilling greater confidence in those nobles who had chosen to remain loyal to Castel about the future...
Charlotte paused for a moment, then said,
"Since you have all chosen to follow me here, your loyalty to Castel is clear enough, so... there are some things I can now share openly with everyone."
"Baron Angus is right, the rebels indeed have a plot. They believe they will be victorious in this war, they believe... the Tulip forces will turn against us, and join them in fighting against Castel’s forces."
Hearing Charlotte’s words, the nobles were stunned, then quickly became agitated:
"Lord Count, are you telling the truth?"
"Divine Lord above! Are you suggesting that the rebels are actually supported by the Third Prince?!"
Charlotte stretched out her hand to press down, her Transcendent Aura spreading, and the nobles instinctively calmed down.
Her gaze swept across the tent, and she said,
"Yes, it’s true. Our domain’s rebels are indeed supported by the Third Prince, and more than that, he has even colluded with the Blood Demon Church, with a clear intent to seize control of the Castel Domain..."
At this revelation, the nobles could not help but stir again.
Viscount Lien Castel also spoke seriously,
"Lord Count, please be careful with your words! Having ties with the Blood Demon Church is a serious crime! Slandering the Royal Family could also draw their wrath..."
Charlotte smiled, saying,
"Of course, I have evidence, and... there’s even a witness."
Saying this, she looked toward the tent entrance, and announced,
"Count Gaston, please come inside."
