Chapter 365: -118- Roman Fuer’s Audience
"Release me! Release me now! What are you doing? I am an envoy from Bold! I am an envoy from Bold! Do you wish to be enemies with the Duke’s family?!"
Outside the Count Mansion, the envoy from the Tulip Count Domain was bound tightly, his expression one of terror, struggling ceaselessly.
Behind him, a tall and burly sailor in black was holding the back of his collar, sneering while lifting him up like a small chicken.
Beside the sailor stood an elderly man dressed in a black noble robe. His back was hunched, his eyes slightly closed, as if drowsy and on the verge of falling asleep.
And behind the old man, seven or eight intimidating black-armored knights were arrayed on either side, swords at the ready.
Their faces were expressionless, a faint Transcendent Aura radiated from them, giving off an aura that warned others to stay away.
On both sides of the street, a sizable crowd of onlookers and nobles had gathered.
Some sharp-eyed among them recognized the black-armored knights’ distinctive black lion crest:
"It’s the people from the Roman Fuer family!"
"They’ve come? And to make a scene right at the entrance of the Count Mansion? Is that Bold’s envoy they’ve captured? What are they trying to do? Start a rebellion?"
"I heard they were the only family that didn’t attend the noble conference a few days ago, and now they’ve captured Bold’s envoy... Have they gone mad?"
"Could it really be true, as the rumors suggest, that they’ve long harbored rebellious intentions?!"
The onlookers were abuzz with discussion.
Upon witnessing the Roman Fuer family taking the Bold envoy into custody, some nobles who had heard the news and arrived on the scene turned pale:
"Viscount Roman Fuer?! What are you doing? Release Bold’s envoy at once!"
"This is the Count Mansion, if you seize the duchy’s envoy, are you trying to embarrass the Count?!"
The nobles angrily rebuked the elderly noble guarded by the black-armored knights.
However, the old noble remained with his eyes slightly closed, not even glancing at them, seeming to pay them no heed at all.
Only the black-armored knights cast a cold glance, their faint Transcendent Aura suddenly flaring up, the formidable pressure causing the scolding nobles to change color:
"A tier-entering man!"
Their bravado quickly wilted, and they all took a step back, their gazes towards the black-armored knights shifting to wariness.
When Charlotte, driven by overwhelming curiosity, personally arrived outside the Count Mansion, what she saw was this very scene.
Her eyebrows raised and with a peculiar look in her eyes, she glanced at the Bold envoy who had been tied up by the Roman Fuer family’s Transcendent sailor, then smiled faintly and said:
"Viscount Roman Fuer, you’ve caused quite a scene at the Count Mansion as soon as you arrived in North Port. Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?"
Hearing Charlotte’s voice, the old nobleman who had kept his eyes half-closed finally opened his cloudy eyes.
He made a trembling bow towards Charlotte with the support of his attendant, then respectfully said:
"I, Alfred Roman Folt... have seen the Count."
"Count, this man has ill intentions. He intended to deceive you with false news, which is why I had to capture him."
Upon hearing the old viscount’s words, the bound envoy suddenly started shouting:
"No! I didn’t! Count! I came here to offer support on behalf of Bold!"
"Enough, put him down, and let’s talk inside."
Charlotte observed the envoy, who was making a racket, a barely perceptible red glint flashed deep in her pupils.
She scanned the crowd that continued to grow around them and said,
"As you command."
Old Viscount Roman Fuer gave a slight bow, signaling the sailor to put the envoy down.
Then, leading the Roman Fuer family’s knights, he escorted the still-bound envoy, following Charlotte into the Count Mansion.
Back in the council chamber, Charlotte resumed her seat at the Lord’s chair.
She didn’t even glance at the envoy bound by the Roman Folt family, just took the milk-infused black tea that Sebastian handed to her and elegantly sipped on it while casually crossing her legs and asked:
"Talk then, Viscount, why did you tie up Bold’s envoy right at my Count Mansion’s doorstep as soon as you arrived? And... why didn’t you participate in the Count Mansion’s nobility meeting a while ago?"
Facing Charlotte’s inquisitive gaze, Viscount Roman Fuer remained calm.
He bowed slightly and said,
"Count, in Castel, the Roman Folt family pledges its loyalty to only one person, and that is you."
"Besides you, no one in Castel can make the Roman Folt bow their heads."
Listening to the Old Viscount’s seemingly suggestive words, Charlotte couldn’t help but give him another look.
The Old Viscount, meanwhile, looked her straight in the eye, his murky eyes filled with an indescribable and ineffable emotion.
Charlotte wanted to see clearly what kind of emotion those eyes held, but the Old Viscount sighed first, bowed his head again, and lamented,
"Regardless, it is best that you are safe and sound."
"So... now that you have confirmed that I am safe and sound, can you answer my other question?"
Charlotte asked.
Viscount Roman Fuer nodded slightly:
"Of course, my Count."
Having said that, he took out a parchment scroll from his chest and presented it with both hands:
"Count, please take a look at this account first. It seems we may have quite a problem on our hands in Castel..."
An account?
Charlotte raised her eyebrows and gestured for Sebastian to take the parchment scroll, then started to peruse it with curiosity.
As she read, her expression gradually turned serious:
"Viscount Roman Fuer, where did this account come from?"
"Count, it was extracted from a black market merchant of the Violet Duchy, a direct descendant of the current ruling family of the Violet Duchy—the Bowat Linte family. Everything on the account... is true."
Viscount Roman Fuer respectfully stated.
"Bowat Linte? A branch of the Bowat family? If I remember correctly, isn’t the Bowat family an age-old nemesis of the Bold family? How did they get involved with each other?"
Charlotte narrowed her eyes slightly.
Viscount Roman Fuer nodded:
"Yes, the Bowat family is indeed the archenemy of the Bold family, and the Bowat family’s territory, Bowat Duchy, has had territorial disputes with the Bold Duchy for hundreds of years..."
"However, the Bowat Linte family, who rule the Violet Duchy, is slightly different. Although they are a branch of the Bowat family, they have another identity."
Saying this, Viscount Roman Fuer’s expression became grave, and he continued,
"They are the maternal family of the Third Prince Philip."
"Third Prince’s maternal family, huh..."
Upon hearing this, Charlotte’s expression began to sour.
"Master... what’s happened?"
Seeing the cryptic conversation between Charlotte and Viscount Roman Fuer, Sebastian’s face was full of curiosity.
Charlotte glanced at him and handed over the parchment scroll:
"Here, take a look for yourself."
Sebastian, curious, took it and began to look through it, and soon his expression also changed subtly:
"What? The Third Prince is planning to ally with the Violet Duchy to partition the Count Castle Domain?!"
