Blood Holy Scripture: True Ancestor Charlotte de Castel -
Chapter 358: -111- Farewell, Blood Count
Chapter 358: -111- Farewell, Blood Count
Falling Star Kingdom, Red Apple Castle.
Count Yulster, clad in a mage robe, nested in his magic research room, was engrossed in studying the construction of enchantment inscriptions.
This had been Yulster’s interest for over a thousand years, his daily pastime, and his addiction.
As a member of the longevity species, one must find some amusement in the midst of a lengthy life to offset the erosion of spirit brought by the passing years.
On the back display shelves of the magic research room, an array of bizarre and varied magical tools was displayed, all the works of the alchemy- and enchantment-passionate Bloodline count.
Suddenly, a blinding light flashed, and the partially embedded inscription before Yulster exploded with a boom.
A translucent shield materialized in front of Yulster, effortlessly blocking the burst of elements.
Waving away the lingering smoke with curses, Yulster complained,
"Damn it, another failure!"
"How did Nicholas manage it back then? To achieve perfect balance between two opposing elements within a magic energy construct..."
"But alas... it’s been hundreds of years with no word from him, probably torn to pieces by some Church, no doubt..."
"No, even if he escaped back then, by now he’d likely be nothing more than dry bones. After all... with his temperament, he would never choose Witch Demon transformation or Body Transmigration even in death..."
Seeming to recall something, Yulster sighed with regret.
Research on magic inscriptions was inherently brain-consuming work.
There were few, even among mages, who took pleasure in such things.
For over a thousand years, the only person Yulster, the Blood Count, considered a confidant and rival was that well-known legendary mage from the human world centuries ago.
But sadly, the world is fair.
Even though the spread of transcendental powers allowed the human race, with its dual advantages of intelligence and reproduction, to experience a surge in collective strength, the lifespan of human transcendents was almost the shortest among all intelligent species.
Thinking about it now, Yulster reckoned Nicholas’s grave grass must be three meters tall.
"Aye, once this turmoil is over and I have the time, I should make a trip to Eastern Yonette, pay my respects at his grave."
With a sigh, Yulster cleaned away the residue from the failed magic with Cleaning Magic and resumed his experimentation.
However, just at that moment, a summoning from bloodline and spirit suddenly struck him.
Feeling the familiar calling, Yulster’s heart skipped a beat,
"This... this is..."
Before he could gather his wits, a crimson mist spread before him, and with a sense of unsettling weightlessness, he found himself once again in the solemn and majestic ancient castle.
Seeing the faintly discernible beautiful figure beneath the mist on the throne, Yulster swallowed nervously and then hurriedly knelt and said,
"Yo... Your Excellency Yulster... greets the True Ancestor!"
"Great True Ancestor, have you summoned me... is there something you need me to do?"
Seated on the Blood Throne, Charlotte looked at the Blood Count in a mage robe, still holding a magic flask, and said with a faint smile,
"Yulster, it seems... you’ve been rather leisurely these days, even delving into magic inscriptions."
Yulster’s expression was somewhat awkward:
"Ah... Your Excellency, as you know, just as you enjoy assuming various identities to wander the human realm, we of the longevity species must find some joy to distract ourselves from the endless tedium of the long years."
Assuming various identities to wander the human realm, huh...
Charlotte took note of the Bloodline Ancestor’s hobby in her heart.
"Enough about your hobbies, how goes the task I entrusted to you?"
Charlotte asked.
"Do you mean searching for the Holy Scripture Fragments for you? Done! I’ve done it!"
"These past few months I’ve constantly been in touch with friends from the clan, inquiring about the whereabouts of the Holy Scripture Fragments, and I’ve actually collected some!"
Yulster said respectfully.
Charlotte’s mood lifted:
"Oh? Bring it over for a look."
"True Ancestor, please wait a moment. Hmm... Please allow me to use Space Magic here!"
Count Yulster said.
Charlotte nodded slightly and, in her mind, she opened Count Yulster’s ability to use magic within the spirit world. Count Yulster then extended his hand to trace patterns in the air, chanting a spell and conjuring a gate of space.
From a different space, he retrieved seven crimson pages and presented them reverently with both hands:
"True Ancestor, these are the fruits of my labor over the past few months, all acquired through exchanges with various friends from the clan..."
Viewing the seven fragments Count Yulster brought forth, Charlotte felt a hint of pleasure in her heart.
The Blood Count was worthy of his title; in just three or four months, he had found so many Holy Scripture Fragments.
To think that the Blood Demon Church once collected for who knows how many years and only managed to obtain twenty-three Holy Scripture Fragments!
"Not bad."
She nodded in satisfaction and extended her hand with a gentle flick.
As she motioned, the Holy Scripture Fragments in Count Yulster’s hands suddenly took flight, joyously soaring toward Charlotte like children finding their home. Eventually, amidst a crimson radiance, they merged with the Blood Holy Scripture in front of Charlotte.
Witnessing this scene, Count Yulster’s demeanor grew even more respectful.
He took a deep breath and continued:
"True Ancestor, besides these, there are still a few scripture fragments that I haven’t been able to get my hands on, which will take some more time to acquire."
"As you know, even I can’t brazenly collect these pages all over, as it would cause certain individuals to harbor ill-thoughts against you... Thus, I must proceed slowly."
"Additionally, these things are too... ahem, mysterious, and few people truly keep them, so the ones I have found aren’t plentiful."
"But I have also heard some news that Nasim, that traitor, seems to have quite a collection... Unfortunately, we are not in a position to act against him at the moment."
Listening to Count Yulster’s words, something stirred in Charlotte’s mind:
"Oh? From the sound of it... it seems that the Blood Duke, who turned to the Blood Demon Church, has not been severely punished by the Elder Council?"
Count Yulster sighed:
"Yes, I don’t understand what the Great Elder is thinking. Even though I reported Maxim’s crimes to Lord Yoroc, and even though Lord Yoroc informed the Elder Council of Maxim’s betrayal, he has yet to be harshly punished and has only been placed under house arrest..."
"Maxim is too cunning; he left no evidence behind, and he silenced his fleet in advance."
"Lacking sufficient evidence, the Elder Council chose not to penalize him severely."
"Nonetheless, he’s not having an easy time. You destroyed one of his avatars that he must have honed for many years. He has been suffering greatly, and according to Duke Yoroc, during meetings of the Elder Council, his presence was noticeably weakened! And now, he temporarily cannot obstruct Duke Yoroc’s actions."
After hearing Count Yulster’s words, Charlotte pondered.
A Duke Elder, almost certainly guilty of colluding with the Blood Demon Church to attack a Count, has ultimately escaped severe sentencing...
It appears that the internal divisions within the Nais Clan are even more severe than she had imagined.
After some thought, Charlotte questioned further:
"Yulster, the infiltration of the Castel Domain was once overseen by you, was it not? As such, you must be in control of certain secular military forces?"
Upon hearing Charlotte’s words, Count Yulster immediately tensed up, stammering:
"True... True Ancestor! Although I did oversee the infiltration of the Castel Domain, I have ceased all such activities now!"
"At that time... I had no idea that you were behind Castel..."
"Not only that, but over these months, I have also cooperated with the internal investigation of nobles within the Castel Territory, please be aware!"
"That’s enough, it’s been quite some time, and I am not seeking to pursue any matter. Tell me, do you or do you not have secular forces at your disposal?"
Charlotte shook her head.
"Do you... mean the army? Hmm... Indeed, I have some. What would you like to do? Are you suggesting that we support Castel?"
Count Yulster asked curiously.
Charlotte nodded slightly:
"You’re very astute."
"I prefer not to meddle in secular conflicts, but certain matters are indeed more suited for you to handle."
