Chapter 330: Emergency Recall

At the point where North Port connects with the land, there was the entrance to the Castel Bridge.

Carriages of all shapes and colors were lined up in a long queue, orderly undergoing the City Guard’s inspection before proceeding over the bridge towards North Port, either laden with goods from various places, or carrying travelers and friends.

Suddenly, hurried hoofbeats sounded from near to far on the emergency official road beside the bridge, as a luxurious carriage emblazoned with a black eagle heraldry swiftly approached from the northern mainland.

The carriage stopped at the checkpoint, and the guards quickly stepped forward with respectful greetings. After that, an attractively elegant red-haired elf poked his head out, nodding slightly to the guards.

"It’s a carriage of the Castel family!"

"Red-haired... Elf... Could it be the favored one by Count, that so-called Sebastian the Flame Elf?"

"I heard he made quite a name for himself in Eastern Yonette, a powerful Transcendent!"

Peddlers and passersby curiously observed the luxurious carriage that was respectfully admitted by the guards, buzzing with discussion for a moment.

Meanwhile, Sebastian, atop the carriage, settled back into his seat, driving the carriage hurriedly towards the city.

Under the respectful salutes of patrolling City Guards and the deferential yielding of passersby, the Castel crest allowed the carriage to swiftly make its way to the stop in front of Count Mansion.

Then, Sebastian leapt gracefully from the carriage and walked briskly towards the mansion.

"Lord Sebastian..."

Seeing the approaching elf butler, maids and footmen bowed respectfully.

Sebastian nodded and asked,

"Where is Count?"

"Count is in the study, deliberating with Viscount Lien Castel,"

the footman replied respectfully.

"Viscount Lien Castel? So, this means... the inspection of the Southern Nobles has been concluded? That guy has also returned?"

Sebastian’s eyebrows twitched as he muttered to himself.

Handing over the carriage reins to the footman, Sebastian hurried towards Count’s study.

And just as he entered the mansion’s great hall, he saw a familiar Black Cat lazily lying at the entrance, basking in the sun while eating dried fish specially prepared by a maid.

"Yo! Sebastian, your speed on the road is lacking. I’ve been back for two days, and here you are, slowly making your way."

Seeing the Flame Elf, the Black Cat burped contentedly and greeted him with pride.

Sebastian glanced at it:

"The roads up north are naturally not as smooth as those in the south, and the distance is farther, so it’s normal to return a bit late. You’re always comparing even the smallest things with me; you’re really becoming more and more like a real cat."

"Meow! And what’s wrong with being a cat? Free and easy, do what one wants to do, eat well, sleep well, carefree, surely living a happier life than humans."

Nisi lazily scratched an itch and said.

Sebastian deeply agreed:

"Pets, indeed, are like that."

Feeling affronted by Sebastian’s retort, it started to react, but then held back, huffing:

"I believe you can do well. Please continue to work hard in the future."

As she spoke, she couldn’t help but yawn and continued,

"The inspection work remains arduous and full of hardships, and the local nobles are not all willing to accept it. Even neighboring lords outside of Castel are covetously eyeing our land, and the North is not stable enough... In the coming period, Sebastian will take full charge of the subsequent inspection work. Your future tasks will involve direct coordination with him."

Viscount Lien Castel glanced at the Flame Elf standing nearby, hesitated slightly, and then respectfully bowed to Charlotte:

"I will heed your command... Count."

Charlotte took a sip of the invigorating milk coffee and said.

"As you wish, Count."

The Old Viscount bowed to Charlotte again, respectfully taking his leave.

With Viscount Lien Castel gone, only Charlotte and Sebastian remained in the study, and Charlotte gestured to Chief Maid Sherry to close the door.

Looking at Charlotte, who was visibly tired, Sebastian felt a stirring in his heart:

"My Lady, are you..."

"Sebastian, I’m afraid I will be entering a deep sleep for some time," Charlotte stated plainly.

"A deep sleep? My Lady, is it that kind of deep sleep?" Sebastian’s heart skipped a beat as he asked.

Charlotte nodded:

"Yes, it’s exactly the kind you’re thinking of. I urgently called you back for this reason. During my slumber, Castel needs someone I trust to be in charge. I cannot fully trust the local nobles, and apart from you, I can think of no one more suitable."

Being affirmed by Charlotte brought Sebastian a surge of joy, but with that joy came worry:

"My Lady, how long will you need to sleep for? I have discovered quite a few traces of Blood Demon Cultists in the North recently, some of whom seem to be Bloodline members of the Nais Clan, plotting something in the dark..."

Charlotte shook her head:

"I’m not certain of the exact duration of the slumber—perhaps one to two months, or it could be three to four."

"I have also informed Nisi, and after I enter slumber, it will use Illusion Technique magic to disguise itself as me and take charge of Count Mansion. However, it can only disguise, and the real person who needs to handle everything will be you."

"I am aware of the activities of the Blood Demon Church. The matter is complicated, and it might involve internal strife within the Nais Clan... I have a pawn within the Nais Clan as well, and before I go into slumber, I will tell you how to contact them."

Charlotte delivered instructions for everything after her sleep sentence by sentence, and Sebastian listened solemnly, taking careful note of everything.

After she had finished giving instructions on the estate’s subsequent work, she seemed to remember something else and said,
