Chapter 308: -67- Blood Demon Church and Nais Elder Council_2
Charlotte’s audit operation was inevitably met with opposition by the nobles, especially those among the Great Nobles.
Pressing the Legris Family too hard would only further intensify the situation and could even lead to the outbreak of war.
Charlotte’s intent was not to exterminate the nobles, but rather to assure their loyalty and reclaim the various powers they had seized during the Castel family’s absence.
War is a continuation of politics and the last resort, bound to cause destruction to the livelihood of the Castel Domain, it is best avoided if possible.
And if the Blood Demon Church had truly intervened in the affairs of the Legris Family...
Then the situation might take on another complexion entirely.
Thinking of this, Charlotte ordered,
"Sebastian, withdraw the guards to Silver Mining City and then secretly observe the Legris Family; call me immediately if there’s any trouble."
"I shall obey your commands."
Sebastian bowed respectfully.
"Remember not to be too rash, safety first."
Charlotte further instructed.
"Sebastian... Understood!"
Sebastian’s demeanor became even more obedient and respectful.
"Alright, time is almost up, call me again when there’s other news."
Charlotte smiled.
After saying this, she waved her hand and a crimson mist began to spread throughout Dark Night Ancient Castle, while Sebastian felt the familiar force of rejection coming from all directions.
His consciousness blurred momentarily as if crossing through time and space, and by the time the mist had dissipated, he found himself back in the real world.
Taking a deep breath, Sebastian stood and walked out of the inner hall of the ancient castle, then ordered the following Castel Guards:
"Pass the order down, after a half-hour rest, we depart for Silver Mining City."
...
This was a black Divine Hall.
The Divine Hall was circular, surrounded by a series of tall stone columns, each carved with ancient and mysterious reliefs depicting celestial imagery and fate, behind which lay the boundless, brilliant stars.
A floating stone door stood at the very rear of the hall, ancient and damaged, emanating a pale blue glow, and in front of the stone door, there was a giant conference table.
In front of the conference table stood a tall phantom figure.
With crimson eyes, he quietly gazed at the firmly closed stone door, his look profound and distant. After a long while, he heaved a sigh, turned around, and swept his gaze toward the three phantoms standing around the conference table.
Looking at the four phantoms, he furrowed his brows slightly and said in a grave voice,
"Only a few of you came?"
As he spoke, his gaze rested on one particularly tall figure:
"Alek, where are the other elders from Moon God Island?"
The tall phantom chuckled carelessly,
"Great Elder, those two old fellows on the island aren’t interested in this kind of meeting, so I had to come alone to represent them."
The tall phantom’s frown deepened.
He glanced at the other, speaking indifferently,
"Go back and tell them to stop tinkering with their plants and flowers. They are Elves, but they are also of the Nais, and the lineage of the Falling Star and Moon God Island are one and the same. After Holy Presence Day arrives, the Moon God won’t be able to protect those Bloodline descendants. The only one who can protect us is Lord Cosy!"
After finishing his statement, the tall phantom then looked toward another, who appeared quite old and stooped.
Before he could speak, the elderly stooped phantom volunteered,
"Great Elder, the other three elders have not yet awakened..."
The tall phantom sighed deeply,
"Then let them continue to sleep for a while; they indeed suffered greatly during the Lilac War."
After saying this, the tall phantom’s gaze settled on the last of the three phantoms,
"Yoroc, speak then. You’ve urgently summoned the Elder Council; has there been some unexpected development with the Romany Duchy or the Castel?"
"Great Elder, as you say, there have indeed been some unexpected developments here..."
Duke Yoroc gave a slight nod of acknowledgment and then relayed everything that had occurred within Castel, as well as the outcome of his observation.
"Thorns and Roses? Holy Emblem? Yoroc, are you joking? Such Coria patterns are common everywhere, if it indeed were the Holy Emblem of some deity, why is it that no one has discovered it in hundreds of years, yet you’ve discovered it now?"
Among the three, the aged and stooped apparition furrowed his brows and spoke.
Duke Yoroc gave the other party a nonchalant glance and said,
"Elder Maxim, if you don’t believe it, you are naturally welcome to conduct another Observation."
"However, without the Holy Artifact provided by Lord Cosy, I cannot guarantee what will happen next."
The aged, hunched figure gazed deeply at him, then turned to the Great Elder at the very front and said,
"Great Elder, whether or not there truly exists a God making a resurgence, I believe we cannot abandon Castel."
"The power of Castel is essential in the Returning Star Plan. Once we control Castel, we could severely damage the economic exchange between the Falling Star Royal Family and the continent. I can control the dominance over the Star Moon Strait, such that not even the fleets of the Holy Royal Court could land on Falling Star Island!"
Duke Yoroc frowned and said,
"Elder Maxim, I believe I have already shared the results of my Observation. It wasn’t merely a God that had just awakened, but it is likely a deity that has lain dormant for hundreds of years. My Observation has warned me, becoming an enemy to it could bring disaster upon our Nais."
The Nais elder named Maxim shook his head,
"Yoroc, there are many interpretations to the results of an Observation; your interpretation is not necessarily the correct one. Furthermore... an Observation that is influenced could very likely be erroneous from the outset, as time and again has been proven in the river of time."
"I do not find your reasons sufficiently convincing, or should I say... do you still think we should abandon the Falling Star Kingdom and avoid conflict with the Holy Royal Court, proceeding instead to the Black Land in Eastern Yonette?"
Upon hearing Elder Maxim’s words, Duke Yoroc’s expression darkened,
"Elder Maxim, are you implying that I am looking for excuses to retreat?"
"Is it not so?"
Elder Maxim glanced at him indifferently.
Duke Yoroc snorted coldly,
"Having decided to carry out the Returning Star Plan, I have no intention of giving up halfway. I merely do not wish to increase our enemies by adding an alien god, complicating our already perilous situation!"
Elder Maxim shook his head,
"The cause of the influenced Observation result does not necessarily have to be a deity, and the success rate of such Observations isn’t absolute anyway. We have already jointly deduced the success rate of the Returning Star Plan; if it indeed concerns a God that has been revived for hundreds of years, why did our earlier deduction proceed so smoothly?"
"Or perhaps, are you suggesting that we should unite the entire Elder Council for another deduction?"
"Considering your relationship with Lady Eugenia, Lord Yoroc, might you be seeking to use this united deduction as a plea for that traitor?"
Duke Yoroc’s expression changed instantly.
He looked coldly at the other party and said,
"Maxim, mind your language! That is our Saintess of Nais!"
Elder Maxim also snorted coldly.
He was about to retort when he quieted down at the calm "Silence!" from the Great Elder.
"Great Elder, the future of Nais is at stake; I ask for your decision!"
Yoroc gave a bow to the apparition at the very front.
However, the Great Elder did not answer.
Instead, he gently closed his eyes, with flickering starlight surrounding him, seemingly engaging in an Observation.
Several Bloodline elders felt a stir in their hearts, their gazes all fell on the Great Elder, and they fell silent.
The Nais clan excelled in Observation.
Apart from the former Saintess Eugenia who betrayed the deity, the highest level of Observation skills within the entire clan belonged to the Great Elder.
After a moment, the light around the Great Elder disappeared, and he opened his eyes, his crimson gaze profound and vast.
"Great Elder, what are the results?"
Elder Maxim asked curiously.
The Great Elder looked around, and after a moment of silence, spoke,
"Inform everyone, let’s dispose of all items related to the thorny rose pattern."
Elder Maxim’s eyes widened, while Duke Yoroc’s spirits lifted, clearly relieved.
However, just as he was settling down, he was once again addressed by the Great Elder,
"Yoroc, Castel is an important link in the Returning Star Plan and must not be abandoned. Since you are responsible for the affairs of the Castel Domain, you must bear the responsibility..."
Saying so, he looked at Yoroc,
"I believe... you understand my meaning, yes?"
