Chapter 262: -42- “Three Royal Families”
As the busiest city in the Northern Land and a well-known port of the New Moon Kingdom, North Port was always lively and bustling.
However, today North Port was even busier than usual.
Facing the Star Moon Strait, one sailing ship after another arrived from the north and south, slowly docking at North Port’s Deep Water Pier. These ships varied in size, including the common two-mast schooners and the recently popular three-mast Caric ships.
Unlike the usual trade ships, each of these bore various flags, adorned with increasingly intricate and beautiful heraldic crests, many of which were directly imprinted onto the sails.
They were the coat of arms of the nobles, and each represented a noble family.
Castel Bridge, the only passage from the Peninsula Continent direct to North Port, was equally busy. Carriages from all directions converged towards North Port, resulting in a rare traffic jam.
Like the ships in the port, the sides of these carriages were painted with exquisite crests, each representing a noble family.
The North Port City Guards, clad in uniform chain armor, were already lined up on both sides of the bridge, guarding from the continent’s end all the way into the city, maintaining order.
Seeing those crests, rarely seen on normal days but well known in the Northern Land, the merchants entering and leaving North Port had no choice but to clear the way, allowing the carriages that likely carried barons or even viscounts to enter first.
Passersby and traveling merchants cast curious glances at the distinguished noble carriages, their comments a constant murmur, though not without complaints:
"Damn! What’s going on today? It’s not the Frontier Festival, so why are there so many nobles? We’re in a rush to load goods at the pier!"
"Loading goods? You might have to wait until tomorrow. North Port is very busy today. I heard the Count Mansion is hosting a banquet, and the Count has summoned all the nobles of his lands."
"All the nobles?! No wonder! I thought I just saw the Legris family’s carriage! And they even had their Armored Knights escorting!"
"Hey, the carriage of the Lien Castel family is here too, entered the city a quarter of an hour ago."
"Lien Castel? So two of the Three Viscount Families are here already? What about the Roman Fuer family?"
"I have no idea, they seldom attend the Count Mansion’s events. Who knows if they will come, but... I heard someone saw a black Caric sailing ship at the outer port, it seemed like theirs."
"Damn! If we had known Castel Bridge was this blocked, we would have taken a ship into the port!"
"You might be disappointed then, the port is even more congested. I heard a lot of cargo ships had to anchor outside the port because there weren’t enough berths. Remember, the one thing the Castel nobles don’t lack is ships; what you think of, they have already thought of."
"Shit! Couldn’t these nobles have arrived a few days earlier!"
The merchant groups were full of complaints, but in the face of these rulers from Castel, they had to conscientiously clear the way.
And as the source of all this congestion, the center of everything, the Count Mansion of Castel was also bursting with activity.
Carriages and longboats from all directions gathered here.
The longboats docked at the waterway berths of the Count Mansion, while carriages entered the mansion’s side square, led by butlers dressed in black and white.
The nobles, dressed in lavish clothes, disembarked and alighted, their eyes scanning across each other’s family crests, exchanging smiles.
Either elegant and reserved, ingratiating and flattering, confrontational, or with a smile concealing a knife.
Everything depended on the greeting parties’ family status and past relations.
However, whether they were the haughty "Great Nobles" or the cautious newcomers, upon stepping through the Count Mansion’s main gate, facing the butlers of the Count Mansion, everyone put on an elegant and proper smile, showing as much respect towards Castel as possible.
Madoc Olan stood in front of the Count Mansion.
The North Port Mayor had personally taken over the role of head steward of the Count Mansion, donned in Castel’s butler attire, smiling as he directed the Count Mansion’s butlers and maids to guide the nobles attending the banquet.
Suddenly, a luxuriously decorated carriage, escorted by knights, slowly approached, led by none other than Baron Sharon, who was escorting Charlotte north.
Seeing the carriage’s side, adorned with the crest of a black eagle and a silver shield, some small nobles consciously cleared the way. North Port Mayor Madoc too, was invigorated; he personally welcomed them, his smile deepening.
Meanwhile, a young, handsomely dressed male noble jumped down from the carriage, then turned to help an elderly noble descend.
Seeing the old noble, Madoc stepped forward, first nodding in greeting to the familiar Baron Sharon, and then turning to the old noble, bowing respectfully and saying,
"Viscount Lien Castel, welcome to North Port, I hope your journey here was not too taxing."
Then, looking at the young noble beside him, he smiled and said,
"This must be your eldest grandson, Derek, right? I heard he is already a Starry Knight, no doubt soon to be another Silver Moon."
Hearing Madoc’s words, the young male noble clearly felt flattered, straightening up a bit more.
The old noble then gently smiled and shook his head, saying:
