Chapter 249: -36- You are so lucky!
"What? Viscount Laval has entered hypersleep?"
Upon hearing this explanation from Chairman Layton of the Mercenary Association, Sebastian showed surprise.
"Yes, Mr. Sebastian, as you know, Viscount Laval’s species has particular traits. Beings like him often undergo hypersleep for several years or even decades. A few years ago, feeling his strength was about to break through, he temporarily resigned from his position as Honorary Chairman to find a place for his hypersleep."
Chairman Layton replied.
"A few years ago? Exactly when?"
Charlotte felt a stir in her heart.
"If I remember correctly, it was seven years ago. It was quite sudden, as Viscount Laval never mentioned he would go into hypersleep before."
Chairman Layton recalled.
Seven years ago?
Charlotte couldn’t help but exchange a glance with Sebastian.
This timing was somewhat delicate, aligning with the year the Mining Workshop was infiltrated.
"Did Laval mention where he was going?"
Sebastian asked again.
Chairman Layton shook his head,
"No, the location of their hypersleep is of utmost importance to them. Viscount Laval did not reveal it before he left."
After saying this, he continued,
"Count, Mr. Sebastian, do you need Viscount Laval for something? If needed, you both can leave a message at the guild. Viscount Laval said that he would return after awakening. However... when exactly that will be, I am not sure. As you know, their kind of species... has a quite unique concept of time, comparable even to a giant dragon."
"There’s no need for a message, but... if there is any news about Laval, I hope you can send someone to inform the Count Mansion."
Charlotte shook her head and said.
The hypersleep of the Bloodline is indeed very mystic, lasting anywhere from a few months to several decades; who knows where this Viscount Laval has gone to sleep, and when he will awaken... Essentially, from the moment she knew he was in hypersleep, Charlotte knew it was unlikely she would meet him.
However, as she said that, having the Mercenary Association keep an eye out couldn’t hurt.
Furthermore...
"Lord Layton, in recent years, have any other new Bloodline members appeared in the domain?"
Charlotte asked further.
Coming to find Viscount Laval was to learn about the Bloodline’s matters. Since Viscount Laval was not around, maybe asking the Mercenary Association could yield some information.
Though the Mercenary Association of Castel had declined along with the shrinking of the Dark Forest, it was still an organization with extensive connections.
"Bloodline members...?"
Chairman Layton frowned and thought for a moment, shaking his head:
"This... I’m not really sure. The activities of the Bloodline are always secretive, and someone like Viscount Laval is actually an exception. However..."
"However, what?"
Sebastian was slightly taken aback.
"However, in recent years there have indeed been quite a few unfamiliar Transcendents of low tier appearing in Castel, most being very low-profile and mysterious, somewhat resembling the Bloodline’s style of operation."
"As for more, we are not clear. The Mercenary Association always respects client privacy and does not delve too deeply into clients’ information, so the information we get is quite limited."
Chairman Layton explained.
New low-tier Transcendents, huh?
Charlotte’s eyes twitched.
Transcendents are not commoners, especially tier-entering ones.
While the Mercenary Association did not provide precise information, combining the situation with the Castel Mining Workshop, Charlotte could almost confirm that these so-called unfamiliar tier-enterers were probably the Nais Clan’s Bloodline.
She roughly framed a possible scenario in her mind:
Around seven years ago, the Nais Clan targeted Castel, successfully infiltrated the Castel silver mines, and rallied many nobles in the domain with a certain scheme in mind, requiring a substantial amount of Mithril.
Additionally, there probably existed a Black Dragon beneath the Castel silver mines; it was not clear what connection this Black Dragon had with the Nais Clan, but it was very likely that the Nais Clan harnessed the power of this Black Dragon.
A giant dragon starts at the Starry Rank and reaches the Silver Moon after growing a few years. According to descriptions by Noah, the Black Dragon under the mines clearly was not any juvenile dragon but at least a young or even a young adult dragon.
In other words, the infiltration of the Castel Domain by the Nais Clan likely saw members reaching up to the Blazing Sun rank!
Thinking this through, Charlotte’s expression grew solemn.
It wasn’t that she was afraid of the behind-the-scenes Bloodline’s strength, but rather, she considered a deeper layer of implications.
All these days, she had never received a single report from the nobles against the Bloodline, showing just how secretive and strong the infiltration by the Nais Clan had been, making their encroachment on Castel almost feel inevitable.
From this perspective, the infiltration by the Nais Clan to Castel seemed not merely the act of some high-ranking Bloodline member within the clan, but rather a systematic plan.
In other words, this time she might have to face the entire Nais Clan!
That could be troublesome.
While Charlotte did possess a significant suppressive force against other Bloodline members and even had the "True Ancestor Liberation" bug, facing an entire clan was something she didn’t feel prepared for.
Keep in mind, unlike the Blood Demon Church that was beaten into hiding by the Holy Royal Court, a Bloodline clan like the Nais Clan was on the scale of a tightly organized secret church.
Their organizational and operational capabilities were not something the Blood Demon Church could compare to, even able to confront the Holy Royal Court within their own domain.
