Chapter 231: -29- I am Count Castel_2
"I’m afraid the commotion we just caused was too great, which led to the tremors here as well," Charlotte guessed.
After all, Sebastian, the Peak Silver Moon, had tremendous destructive power.
Even though he had deliberately contained his strength, the fight with Gicod, who had transformed into the Black Dragon, was still fierce enough to cause earthquake-like vibrations in the mine. It was only to be expected.
The last thing the mine needed was this kind of disturbance; the miners must have thought the mine was collapsing and evacuated immediately in a matter of minutes.
Just as Charlotte had speculated, when they left the mining area and arrived at the entrance to the mine, they quickly saw a dense crowd of miners gathered around outside, peering towards the entrance.
And the entrance itself had been sealed off.
Sebastian glanced at the guards maintaining order outside the mine and the steward wearing the Castel Mining Workshop uniform. He smiled slightly and said to Charlotte,
"Master, it seems... there may be no need for us to make a special visit."
The few people who emerged from the mine naturally attracted the attention of everyone present.
In the crowd, the old Werewolf, Logan, who was negotiating tensely with the Mining Workshop’s steward, noticed them and his face lit up with surprise and joy:
"Noah! Luf! You’re still alive!"
"Grandfather Logan!"
Seeing the old Werewolf, Noah’s face also showed joy as if he had seen a relative.
Charlotte’s gaze, however, fell on the Workshop steward standing beside old Logan.
Unlike other stewards, this one’s attire was more luxurious, and he even wore a family badge on his chest.
He was a noble.
And likely, a Senior Steward.
Charlotte even sensed a strong Transcendent Aura from him; this Senior Steward... was also a Starry First Tier tier-entering man.
Charlotte sized up the Workshop’s Senior Steward, who, in turn, was looking at them guardedly.
Soon, Charlotte saw someone whisper a few words in the ear of the Senior Steward, and the man’s expression changed almost instantly.
His gaze turned cold, and he squinted at Charlotte and the others:
"So you’re the Transcendents who infiltrated the mine, trying to steal Mithril..."
"Hmph! Guards, capture them!"
On the Senior Steward’s command, over fifty guards clad in Chain Armor and armed with swords and shields swiftly emerged, surrounding Charlotte and her party as they stepped out of the mine.
Their movements were synchronized and well-trained, clearly the elite.
Noting the Northern Land Falcon badge representing the Castel family on the guards’ chests, Charlotte nodded inwardly.
Her own family still possessed some strength.
At least... these guards stationed in the mine were quite impressive, with a high proportion of Transcendents.
Not only that, but the leaders, evidently the captains among the guards, were also tier-entering men, albeit only First Tier. But that was still significant.
As the mine guards acted, the old Werewolf, Logan, was stunned:
"Senior Steward, is there... some kind of misunderstanding?"
"Hmph, misunderstanding? Logan, I have received a report that these people are not mere miners but Transcendents trying to steal Mithril!"
The steward, Maier—who always facilitated the Sub-human miners—spoke coldly beside the Senior Steward.
Pointing at Charlotte and Sebastian in the crowd, he continued,
"Besides, look at them. Do they look like Werewolf miners? They’re clearly humans and Elves in disguise! Humans and Elves together are a combination only found in mercenaries; these people must surely be mercenaries from the Black Land of Eastern Yonette!"
Although Logan had already suspected that Sebastian and Charlotte were concealing their identities, he was still taken aback to find that they had disguised even their races after Maier pointed it out.
However, upon noticing Noah and Luf beside Charlotte, Logan couldn’t help but insist,
"Steward, Noah, and Luf..."
"No need to say more."
The Senior Steward halted old Logan with a gesture, giving him a cold look.
"We’ve already been merciful in not holding your Sub-human Tribe accountable for leading the invaders into the mine. These two Werewolves are clearly accomplices of the intruders; they must be apprehended together!"
With that, he ordered the guards who had surrounded Charlotte and her group,
"What are you waiting for? Take action!"
With the command given, the guards rushed towards Charlotte and her companions.
Sebastian, however, was quicker.
In an instant, he flashed in front of the guards, effortlessly picking up the two leading tier-entering men as if they were chicks and then hurling them away with a backhand throw.
The two Starry First Tier guards hadn’t even realized what was happening before they were thrown four to five meters away, tumbling awkwardly to the ground.
The remaining guards halted their charge immediately.
"Silver... Silver Moon!"
They widened their eyes, watching Sebastian guardedly and cautiously as they stepped back a few paces.
The expression of the Senior Steward changed slightly.
He shouted loudly,
"Turrets! Level two alert!"
As soon as his voice dropped, Charlotte saw several dark figures atop the surrounding guard towers move to point some black contraptions at them.
Her eyes twitched, and, relying on her Bloodline’s vision, she quickly recognized them as several cumbersome stone-shooting cannons that seemed to have been magically modified. The operators were not guards but a few Magic Apprentices.
It was obvious that these stone-shooting cannons were intended for use against high-level Transcendents.
Not only that, among the guards, some swiftly brought forward a few heavy crossbows, their massive bolts aimed straight at Charlotte and her companions.
Charlotte also saw magical runes on the heavy crossbows, indicating these were not ordinary crossbows but likely intended for Transcendents as well.
Charlotte even felt the presence of the Starry element.
Among those operators, there was actually a Starry Mage!
Clearly, although the highest rank among the guards stationed in the mine was only Starry, they were still prepared for an attack by the Silver Moon.
Upon seeing the arrangement, Noah was obviously a bit scared, but Charlotte remained quite composed.
"Nisi, it’s time to work."
She called out to the Black Cat.
"Hehe, sure thing!"
Nisi hopped over to Sebastian’s side and, with a human-like gesture, waved its paw. The magical runes on the stone-shooting cannons and heavy crossbows began to flicker.
And then... they exploded.
The surrounding Magic Apprentices and guards let out a cry of surprise, and by the time they reacted, the stone-shooting cannons and heavy crossbows were already wrecked.
"High... High Tier Elemental Resonance?!," the only Starry Mage in the crowd couldn’t help exclaiming, his face a mix of shock and incredulity.
"Luf."
Charlotte signaled the werewolf with her eyes.
The werewolf Luf nodded, stepped forward, and directly tossed the body of Gicod in front of the guards.
"Lord Kode!"
Seeing Gicod’s body, the senior steward’s face turned pale with shock.
Then his expression grew even more somber:
"You’ve actually killed Lord Kode, are you intending to be enemies with the Castel family?!"
"Heh, be enemies with the Castel family?"
Sebastian scoffed.
He looked back at Charlotte who gave him a nod. After receiving the cue, Sebastian took another step forward.
He snapped his fingers and light flickered over his body as his ragged miner’s clothes suddenly transformed into an elegant and appropriate Castel family attire for a steward.
He then gracefully took out a hawk badge from his chest and showed it to the crowd, speaking clearly,
"I am Sebastian Flameheart, the butler to Charlotte de Castel, Countess Castel."
"The overseer of Castel Mining Workshop colluded with external forces, harming the family’s assets. The investigation was conclusive, and he has been executed."
The butler of Count Castel?
The miners and guards were slightly stunned.
The attire and badge of the Castel family were familiar to everyone, and at the sight of Sebastian’s appearance, the watching crowd began to buzz.
The expression of the Mining Workshop’s Senior Steward changed slightly.
Sinking into a solemn demeanor, he said,
"Who exactly are you to dare impersonate the butler of the Count?!"
"He is, of course, the butler of Count Castel."
From behind Sebastian came the crisp voice of Charlotte.
The eyes of the Mining Workshop’s Senior Steward fell on Charlotte once more.
His gaze flickered, showing a hint of wariness:
"You... who are you?"
Charlotte, too, took a step forward. She stroked the magically prepared ring on her fingertip, and a glow passed over her, making her ragged miner’s clothes vanish, to be replaced by a noble gothic dress in shades of black and red.
She elegantly straightened her golden hair, her beautiful youthful face resembling a doll’s, her deep blue eyes like stars:
"I am the Countess of Castel."
