Chapter 174: -6- Third Prince and Eleanor
Eleanor?
So, is she the daughter of the Bold Duke?
Charlotte felt a stir in her heart.
As Laino left the family and renounced his inheritance rights, the legitimate heir to the Bold Duchy was only the Bold Duke’s daughter, Eleanor.
If age were disregarded and only their generational relationship considered, she could be seen as her niece.
Eleanor, having been betrothed to the New Moon Royal Family at a young age, settled in the Royal Capital for her studies and residence over ten years ago. Charlotte, with the memories she had inherited, did not know her well, and had scarcely even met her.
She wasn’t aware of her temperament or her appearance, but at this moment, looking at her somewhat stiff smile, an inexplicably strong sense of déjà vu overwhelmed her...
However, that feeling of having seen this before quickly faded.
Eleanor’s smile soon returned to normal, as if the previous eerie hollowness was merely an illusion of Charlotte’s mind.
Charlotte was eager to investigate further, but the presence of the Great Mage, the Moon Guardian Duke, who stood beside them, discouraged her from taking any rash action. Furthermore, Eleanor and the Third Prince were clearly wearing some kind of magic artifact that concealed their energies, making it impossible for Charlotte to sense their power.
At the same time, the Third Prince Philip, who stood beside Eleanor, looked at Charlotte with a flash of amazement in his eyes.
He gave a brilliant smile, both elegant and cordial, saying,
"I’ve long heard about the gem of Bold, Miss Charlotte of Castel, who possesses a beauty so profound that even deities would be envious... Indeed, your reputation is well deserved."
At this comment, the surrounding nobles couldn’t help but cast their eyes on the young lady and the prince.
Charlotte’s heart skipped a beat.
Though the Third Prince’s words sounded like a compliment, he had likened her to the deity, subtly placing her on the spot as if under trial...
After all, in a world where deities were real, how could a mortal be compared to a deity?
Although Charlotte knew about the friction between the New Moon Royalty and the Church, she hadn’t expected that a prince would speak so frankly in public.
It seemed the dispute between the royalty and the Church was even greater than she had imagined; the covert struggle between kingly authority and divine right might also be fiercer.
"Prince, you overstate things," Charlotte said devoutly, "everything I have is a blessing of the deity."
After speaking, she didn’t forget to draw a standard Ring Cross before her chest.
The Third Prince blinked, then smiled and said,
"It seems you are indeed a true Holy Believer, as the rumors stated... Forgive my impudence."
He then looked towards Sebastian, Charlotte’s companion, with curiosity,
"So, this Elf Lord... he wouldn’t happen to be Mr. Sebastian, ’Crimson Flame Blade,’ would he?"
Crimson... Crimson Flame Blade?
What kind of adolescent fantasy title is that?
Charlotte clearly paused for a moment.
She cast a peculiar glance at Sebastian beside her, and Sebastian tensed slightly before replying gracefully,
"Prince, those are tales of the past and merely a notorious name spread in the Mercenary Realm. Now, I merely serve as Lord Charlotte’s butler."
The Third Prince seemed to realize something and nodded slightly.
He didn’t pursue the topic further but switched the conversation,
"Miss Charlotte, I heard that you are heading north to your domain?"
"Yes," Charlotte replied with a smile, "I have only recently inherited my title and there are many matters in my domain that require my personal attention."
"Do you plan to stay a few days in Anlo? Castel is Bold’s backing, and I am Eleanor’s husband, which naturally makes you my friend."
"I have a vineyard in Anlo, and in three days, I am hosting a wine tasting where many lords from the kingdom will be present. If you are interested, I would be glad to extend the hospitality as a host and also invite you to savor the finest wine in Anlo."
The Third Prince spoke warmly.
As he spoke, he affectionately took his wife Eleanor’s hand, while Eleanor also looked at Charlotte, displaying a warm and radiant smile.
Even the Moon Guardian Duke chimed in with a smile,
"Countess Castel, it seems the prince is genuinely looking forward to meeting you."
"The wines of our Moon Guardian Duchy are unparalleled in West Yonette, and even the wine produced by the Third Prince’s vineyard is famous far and wide, even acclaimed by His Majesty the King himself."
Charlotte immediately sensed that the Third Prince was trying to curry favor with her.
The Castel family was Bold’s preeminent noble house. If he could secure Castel’s support, Eleanor’s position as a duchess would be far more secure.
Of course, from the nature of their interaction, it was evident that Philip was the dominant partner between Eleanor and himself, determining who might control Bold in the end was anyone’s guess.
However, regardless, she wasn’t interested in getting involved in Bold’s forthcoming power struggles.
She just wanted to return to her domain and stay there.
With that thought, Charlotte picked up the hem of her dress and curtseyed to the Third Prince, apologizing sincerely,
"I’m sorry... Prince, there are urgent matters in my domain, and I must hurry on my journey, so I can’t spend much time in Anlo. I must leave first thing tomorrow morning."
Hearing Charlotte’s polite refusal, the Third Prince was not upset but expressed his regret,
"That is truly unfortunate, for Eleanor and I are soon heading south to Bold. Once you leave, who knows when we will meet again."
Charlotte’s heart stirred, immediately detecting a probing tone in his words.
