Chapter 148: -136- The Call of the Great Priest

Chapter 148: -136- The Call of the Great Priest

In the eastern district of Bold City, within the confines of a secluded villa.

Great Priest Linus stood in a room with closed doors and windows, his expression tense as he gazed at the altar before him.

It was the kind of altar frequently used by cultists to communicate with an Evil God, hastily arranged.

In its design, he referenced the Blood Demon Church, and the various arrays inscribed were based on the common communication magic techniques constructed by cult organizations to enhance Spiritual Sense.

Amongst the many evil rituals that the Holy Royal Court could expose, cultists often used these common techniques to contact those ancient and mysterious mighty beings. Some madmen didn’t even know the identity of the deities they prayed to, which had led to a series of catastrophes. And such evil rituals were exactly what the Holy Royal Court had always struck down with great severity.

However, the Great Priest never imagined that he himself would one day construct such an evil technique, to perform an evil summoning...

Spreading the blood of a Demon Beast with extremely high Spirituality over the communication technique above the altar, the Great Priest solemnly carved the Holy Emblem of the thorny rose onto the center of the altar, following the design on the parchment.

Indeed, the entity he sought to communicate with... was the mysterious Evil God that recently appeared in the Bold Duchy!

He had this thought when the Great Knight died.

Of course, at that time, the Great Priest was merely panic-stricken by the investigation from the Royal Court’s higher ups, thus he harbored the mad thought that perhaps he could seek protection from the Evil God.

He knew this thought was crazy, so after calming down, he suppressed it. He wanted to distance himself as much as possible from the death of the Great Knight and tried to suppress the resurgence of the Evil God...

But everything that followed forced him to consider this possibility.

Last night’s descent of the Flame Demon, almost the entire Bold City had witnessed, and the defeat of the Flame Demon by a mysterious powerful being was also seen by many.

Mortals felt that force was incredibly mighty, yet did not understand what it truly signified, but as the highest Clergy member of Bold, the Great Priest knew that the entity who acted was the very Evil God.

Not only that, he believed many Second Tier priests and even some First Tier priests who had done their research could guess that it was a manifested Evil God.

In fact... this morning in the Grand Cathedral, he heard quite a few priests covertly discussing it, and even the residents on the streets were mostly discussing last night’s anomaly.

The fact that the Evil God had resurrected couldn’t be kept secret, the upper echelons of the Royal Court would inevitably intervene with a strong investigation, and even the Judgement Knight of Legendary strength might be mobilized.

The incident at the Drunk Dream Saloon also blew up, and along with it, the collaboration between the Drunk Dream Saloon and the Blood Demon Church as well as the Divine Descent ritual held by the Blood Demon Church were also unveiled to the world following last night’s Flame Demon appearance...

He, as the Great Priest of Bold, had responsibilities for all these matters, and many of them couldn’t withstand investigation; he had to find a way out for himself...

With this thought, the Great Priest took a deep breath and lit all the incense sticks enhancing spiritual power and Spiritual Sense.

He took out a small knife, cut his palm, and let the blood drip into the groove on the altar, then, with a solemn expression and a deep voice, he called out:

"The mighty being who defeated the Flame Demon Vararoka..."

"The master of Thorns and Roses..."

"I, Linus de Fua, the Great Priest of the Holy Royal Court’s Bold division... seek Your divine gaze to descend upon me!"

The Great Priest did not know the specific prayer language to direct towards this mysterious Evil God.

So... he could only substitute it with the other’s Holy Emblem and the deeds they had done.

Although this reduced the success rate, being a priest with innately high Spiritual Sense, and considering that the entity had just recently descended upon Bold City, he felt the probability of making contact was still high.

The prayer complete, the Great Priest anxiously watched the altar before him.

However, as time ticked by second by second, he received no response.

Staring at the motionless altar, the Great Priest’s gaze, filled with anticipation and hope, gradually dimmed.

But just when he thought he had failed, the candles in the secret chamber suddenly began to waver slightly.

The flickering candle light made the dim secret chamber shadowy and indistinct. The lit incense smoke swirled as if moved by an invisible force.

A flicker of anticipation stirred in the Great Priest’s heart.

He quickly looked up, just to see a reddish glow suddenly burst forth upon the arranged altar, instantly engulfing everything around.

The Great Priest was startled.

And when he came to his senses again, he found that the scenery around him had changed.

He was no longer in the mansion’s secret room but had appeared in a majestic ancient castle.

This is... an Illusion Realm?

The Great Priest suddenly shivered.

He looked around nervously and cautiously, only to see boundless crimson fog.

The castle was shrouded in mist, hiding everything from sight, and the Great Priest could barely make out a staircase leading upwards in front of him.

And above the staircase, there appeared to be a crimson figure seated on a throne.

The Great Priest could not see the figure clearly but felt it was a mass that made his brain swell and spirit go into disarray just by looking at it.

He realized almost instantly what he was experiencing.

Success!

I have called out successfully!

This mysterious Evil God heard my call and pulled me into this Illusion Realm!

The Great Priest quickly came to such a conclusion.

Taking a deep breath, he did not wait for the figure on the throne to speak; instead, he knelt first, respectfully saying,

"Holy Royal Court’s Great Priest Linus de Fua of the Bold branch... I’ve seen the exalted and grand Your Majesty!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the Great Priest vaguely felt a grand gaze sweeping over him, landing on his body.

He did not dare to look up, fearing he might anger this terrifying Evil God who had torn a Legendary Demon in half as easily as slaughtering a chicken, but tried to show even more awe and submission.

Soon, he heard an ancient and profound, yet ethereal and indistinguishable chuckle,

"Holy Royal Court’s Great Priest... why do you pray to me?"

He has responded!

The Great Priest was overjoyed in his heart and quickly said,

"Exalted and grand existence!"

"Last night, I witnessed your supreme might, saw your glory and deeply felt your strength..."

"I... wish to propose a deal!"

Indeed, the Great Priest wanted to strike a deal with this mysterious Evil God.

In history, there have been countless instances of mortals making deals with deities, with some lucky ones even gaining the favor of deities, obtaining Divine Favored status.

Some might simply be the deities’ one-sided boredom and games, others include mortals receiving tokens from deities, and yet others... are deities wanting to use mortals to achieve certain goals.

The Great Priest’s idea was bold and extreme, that is, to use the status of the Holy Royal Court’s Great Priest to form a collaboration with this Evil God!

He believed that the other party could feel the power of the Holy Royal Court, the terror of the Holy Royal Court...

Even for an Evil God who could kill a Legendary Demon instantly, as long as Their true form walks the earth in Saint State, They would definitely be hunted by the Holy Royal Court until Their Fall!

He believed that for an Evil God who had not long resurrected and urgently needed Recovery Power to leave this world, the internal intelligence of the Holy Royal Court would be very important.

He wanted to exchange the intelligence of the Holy Royal Court for the other’s protection, to gain the hidden support of the other party, to help him cope with the upcoming inquiries of the Church!

As long as he could come to an agreement with the Evil God, while the Great Knight was away, he might be able to erase all traces before the Church sent someone, blaming everything on the internal strife of the Bloodline’s Duke...

The Great Priest’s thoughts were a whirlwind.

And on the Blood Throne above, Charlotte, who had concealed her identity, heard his inner voice loud and clear.
