Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Creating the Ancient Gods

Diamond Square is a famous scenic area in the Capital City, spanning tens of thousands of acres near an artificial river. Its daily foot traffic exceeds twenty thousand, and various events are held here, including animation expos, car shows, circus performances, and more...

This is way too crowded! Hey, stop pushing, stop pushing, or someone’s gonna get pregnant here!

What the hell, whose saliva just sprayed all over my face?

Damn it.

Yang Qizhou hadn’t anticipated the sheer number of people at Diamond Square today. Looking out over the sea of faces, there were easily tens of thousands, including many parents with children.

Normally, this wouldn’t pose a problem, but he was utilizing the effect of the ’Hidden God’s Clothes,’ rendering himself invisible to the naked eye. No one could see him, so naturally, no one avoided him. Adding to that, Little Bean always loved to push into crowded areas, which led to predictable consequences.

And so the day went on until the early afternoon, around two or three o’clock.

The animation expo began.

Hosted by a major corporation, the event occupied an entire floor of the ’Diamond Building,’ over three thousand square meters of space—enough to accommodate more than ten thousand people. Zhao Xin had brought Ding Xiaolan along to attend.

Yang Qizhou followed closely, worried about unexpected incidents and his ability to respond in time. Luckily, in his current invisible state, he wouldn’t easily attract attention or be mistaken for a creep.

"No signs of suspicious individuals yet, but we can’t afford to let our guard down."

"The Deceit Bureau has gotten involved, which means for sure that there are active players from the Deceit World here. They’re likely responsible for the deaths of Xin Jie and Little Bean."

"At least until today is over, the mother and daughter can’t be considered safe."

Soon, Yang Qizhou arrived at the expo venue.

Little Bean was visibly excited, darting here and there to check out the exhibits. Zhao Xin followed behind her daughter, her face filled with indulgent affection.

Watching the interaction between the mother and daughter, Yang Qizhou felt a brief sense of enjoyment.

But at that moment, a familiar figure emerged. Although the silhouette disappeared around a corner in the blink of an eye, Yang Qizhou caught a clear look at the individual’s features.

Wang Chuan?

Why would this person show up here?

Yang Qizhou’s surprise wasn’t unwarranted; Wang Chuan was the perpetrator of the ’Purple Flower District’ massacre and the holder of the minor ancient object, the ’ruined statue of the Abyss Old God.’

When members of the Deceit Bureau went to apprehend him back then, they encountered grave trouble and narrowly avoided total annihilation. It was Yang Qizhou who wielded the ’Ancient God Fire Lamp’ to dispel the illusory façade, rescue the Bureau members, and take the opportunity to deliver a severe beating to Wang Chuan.

By all reasonable expectations, Wang Chuan should currently be held in secret custody by Deceit Bureau operatives—or even executed covertly. What was he doing at an animation expo?

"Could it be that Wang Chuan was the one who killed Xin Jie and Little Bean?"

Yang Qizhou’s gaze turned icy.

However, he did not pursue the ’ruined statue of the Abyss Old God’ holder. The reason was simple: this scenario was merely speculation. If Wang Chuan was indeed the culprit behind the deaths of Xin Jie and Little Bean, leaving now might subject the expo to other Deceit World players’ attacks. Then he’d fail to protect the mother-daughter duo.

"No matter what happens, I swear to the gods—I’d rather give my life than let harm come to Xin Jie and Little Bean today."

...

Meanwhile.

In an RV not far from Diamond Square, Zhou Xu was seated amidst various precision instruments, monitoring every corner of Diamond Building. His expression appeared exceedingly tense.

"Chief Zhou, we still haven’t located Wang Chuan. No clue where that bastard is hiding," Zhao Keke said as she entered, her face visibly sour.

Zhou Xu nodded silently, his sharp eyes fixed on the angles offered by the surveillance feeds.

Soon, another person entered—the Deceit Bureau member Lao Chen—his face drawn with anxiety. "Chief Zhou, Diamond Building is heavily crowded today, and the layout is complex. Conducting a thorough search for Wang Chuan is virtually impossible. For the sake of public safety, I propose we request clearance from higher-ups to evacuate the crowd as soon as possible."

Zhou Xu shook his head, rejecting Lao Chen’s suggestion.

"What do you think Wang Chuan came to Diamond Square for? He’s using the people here as hostages. If we evacuate the crowd or perform actions that make him feel in jeopardy, he might very well initiate a slaughter."

Their expressions turned even grimmer.

Having faced Wang Chuan during prior capture attempts, they knew too well the terrifying power of the ’ruined statue of the Abyss Old God.’ If used recklessly in a densely crowded area, it would result in mass carnage.

Known for her fiery temper, Zhao Keke couldn’t help herself, slamming her fist hard onto the delicate instruments nearby.

"Damn it... I just don’t get it. Wang Chuan was locked up in Deceit Prison, and the ’ruined statue of the Abyss Old God’ was sealed away. How the hell did he manage to escape?"

Not only Zhao Keke but Lao Chen couldn’t make sense of the situation.

Deceit Prison was no ordinary detention facility. The seals there prevented the usage of strange powers. Wang Chuan didn’t have access to his phone anymore, so he couldn’t benefit from Deceit World. Plus, the ’ruined statue of the Abyss Old God’ was no longer in his possession.

By all accounts, Wang Chuan was now indistinguishable from regular humans—there should’ve been no way for him to escape.

"Perhaps someone on the inside saved him..."

Narrowing his eyes, Zhou Xu’s gaze turned cold and wary; he clearly harbored suspicions regarding Wang Chuan’s breakout.

"With the emergence of Deceit World, more and more individuals are gaining powers that supersede normal human limits. Most are registered in the Bureau, so they’re easier to manage. But don’t forget, there are still many unaccounted-for players out there, operating in the shadows, banding together to form organizations, pursuing their own hidden agendas."

"From what we currently know, these Hidden Organizations include the ’Hermit Association,’ ’Secret Cultivation Society,’ and ’Death Cult,’ among others..."

"Who can guarantee that Wang Chuan’s sudden escape wasn’t orchestrated by one of them?"

Hidden Organizations?

Zhao Keke and Lao Chen’s expressions grew heavier. While their ranks left them out of the loop on top-secret matters, they had heard whispers, and the rumors included information about these Hidden Organizations.

"If Wang Chuan’s escape truly involved a Hidden Organization, I’d bet the Hermit Association is the likeliest culprit."

"I second that," Lao Chen agreed.

Zhou Xu nodded. "I think the Hermit Association has the strongest motive... Because the intelligence we’ve gathered so far suggests that their endgame is..."

"To... create... Ancient... Gods."

The RV fell into a heavy silence.

The gods of the Ancient World were mysteries both twisted and terrifying—every Deceit World player understood this. If the Hermit Association succeeded, it would spell unimaginable calamity for the entire real world.

"Wait, why’s there smoke...?"

One of the monitors caught Zhao Keke’s eye. She quickly realized what was happening and shouted urgently, "Fire! Chief Zhou, Diamond Building’s 13th floor is burning!"
