Chapter 35: Chapter 35: The Purple Orchid God’s Stomach
"You hear the cry of a crow echoing in your mind, and the scene before you quickly becomes illusory, distorted, melting away until it shatters completely."
"The effect of ’Dark Crow of Profane Fortune’ activates, and you return to the moment of your last choice."
"The Oath on your body has been nullified upon save and load."
"You are no longer burdened by Oath shackles."
"You open your eyes again in the Dark Mist Town swamp. Twisted and distorted monsters roam nearby, but thanks to the effect of the ’Hidden God’s Clothes,’ they fail to notice your presence."
"You once again hear the cries for help coming from the ancient temple. They are filled with pain, helplessness, despair, and bitterness."
"So now, as a shameless gamer habitually relying on save-load mechanics to escape danger and fully aware that the Six-Faced Monsters are a conglomeration of six cunning schemers, what choice will you make this time?"
Shifting into a more comfortable position on the couch, Yang Qizhou had no trouble understanding the behavior of the six sect leaders.
The disaster in Dark Mist Town had yet to dissipate. The eerie wind capable of corrupting life still lingered, while adventurers who could cross the mysterious wilderness, evade the horrors borne on the wind, and avoid being harmed by the townsfolk-turned-monsters were exceedingly rare. Only such Travelers could eventually reach the temple.
The constant torment of their souls had left them unwilling to pin their hopes on some savior who might not appear for an unpredictable length of time. More so, they worried that the adventurers would not fully commit to collecting the seven Holy Sacrifices of the ’King of Virtue.’ Guided by their profound insight and extensive experience, they felt compelled to take action.
And binding the adventurers with ’Oath shackles’ was undoubtedly the best choice...
But understanding does not equate to acceptance.
The promised reward was supposed to be a powerful Holy Object. Sure, they delivered on that promise, but the object provided was not only unusable but also came with the added risk of incurring hostility from various Evil Gods and countless hidden entities.
What kind of test is this for your officers?
Are you trying to fool ghosts here?
Not to mention, these six cunning schemers even attempted to leash the adventurer like a dog.
If Yang Qizhou had been the kind of person to tolerate such things, he wouldn’t have punched his boss and lost his job over it in the first place.
A palm-sized object, soft and elastic like gummy candy, appeared in Yang Qizhou’s hand, emitting a faint glow. This was none other than the special Holy Object known as ’Ancient Roots,’ obtained from the hands of the Six-Faced Monsters.
"I wasn’t planning to freeload, but why did you have to play mind games?"
Putting the item away, Yang Qizhou continued playing the game.
As for the binary choice that lay before him... Yang Qizhou harbored no goodwill whatsoever towards the grotesquely fused monstrosity that was the six sect leaders. He was too lazy to deal with them again and naturally chose ’Option Two.’
"Always a vengeful adventurer, you were infuriated by the fraud of the Six-Faced Monsters in the previous fate line. You decide to ignore the cries for help this time."
"You leave the vicinity of the temple."
"You hear the faint, intermittent cries for help in the distance but show no inclination to stop."
"You wander through Dark Mist Town."
"You continue to wander."
"You continue to wander."
"Thanks to the effect of the ’Hidden God’s Clothes,’ you are not discovered by any distorted monsters, prompting you to marvel at the power of this quasi-legendary ancient object."
"You search for a long time but find nothing."
"Realizing that Dark Mist Town has been completely devastated by storms, leaving no treasures to be found, you decide to leave."
"Once again, fate splinters into branching paths. With your experience in the previous fate line, you clearly remember that ten miles south of Dark Mist Town lies a mysterious site known as the ’Heavenly Spring,’ where the Holy Sacrifice [Holy Redemption] of the King of Virtue is located. However, the Fire Stealing Ancient God’s blessing is fading, and Fire Stealing Village is in peril, filled with hidden dangers and urgently in need of help."
"Now, driven by lingering thoughts of Lena’s beauty, adventurer..."
"Do you choose to head to the ’Heavenly Spring’ ten miles south to secure [Holy Redemption] first?"
"Or will you immediately rush back to Fire Stealing Village to inform Lena of Dark Mist Town’s destruction and help her find another solution?"
"Please make your choice."
Without much deliberation, Yang Qizhou chose ’Option One.’
Heading straight back to Fire Stealing Village might trigger a new storyline, but that was only a ’might.’ On the other hand, [Holy Redemption] was right in front of him. As one of the seven sacred relics required to summon the King of Virtue via Divine Descent, its rank was undoubtedly high—an undeniable reward.
Not to mention, obtaining [Holy Redemption] would reveal the location of the next Holy Sacrifice in the game, initiating a chain quest storyline.
If all seven Holy Sacrifices of the King of Virtue were collected, the benefits might even outweigh those gained by outsmarting the Dream Hidden King.
The game continues.
"You set out for the Heavenly Spring."
"You’re on your way."
"Relying on the effect of ’Hidden God’s Clothes,’ you evade numerous unknown horrors in the wilderness."
"You arrive at the edge of a flower grove."
"You see jellyfish-like beings floating in the air and swaying purple flowers exuding a fragrant aroma. The scenery here is breathtakingly beautiful."
"Your two trailing Rooting Hounds suddenly begin barking in terror, retreating constantly."
"You pay no attention. After all, with the powerful effect of ’Hidden God’s Clothes,’ you’ve avoided countless dangers before, and you believe this will be no different."
"You stride boldly into the flower grove."
"You are digested by [Purple Orchid God’s Stomach]. Not even your bones remain, leaving no trace for your ashes to scatter."
"You died."
???"
Yang Qizhou’s mind needed a moment to catch up. It took him quite a while to realize what had happened.
It turns out this flower grove was no flower grove at all but the manifest stomach of an entity known as the ’Purple Orchid God.’ Like a gaping maw of the Abyss, any intruder was digested, effectively being devoured in their entirety.
"Well, seems you can really die in the weirdest ways, huh."
"They might as well rename this game from [Deceit World] to [The Hundred Thousand Bizarre Deaths of a Game Character]."
Grumbling aside, the game had to go on.
The routine was the same as always: take a trip to the River of Death, experience another round of being spied on by some unknown entity, and then choose between reviving on the spot or saving and loading.
After a moment of thought, Yang Qizhou opted to use the ability of ’Dark Crow of Profane Fortune.’
No other reason than the fact that he had plenty of save-load chances.
What a luxury.
"You returned to the moment of your last choice."
"A greedy adventurer never knows the meaning of satisfaction. Even after being digested by the ’Purple Orchid God’ and turned into its people’s nourishment, you remain undeterred. Once again, you choose to head for the ’Heavenly Spring.’"
"You set out again."
"Aware that walking straight ahead will inevitably lead to the ’Purple Orchid God’s Stomach’ once more, you decide to take a detour."
"You’re on your way again."
"You encounter a mysterious figure hanging upside down from a tree, wrapped entirely in black cloth. Realizing this figure is not to be trifled with, you decide to skirt around them."
"Thanks to the effect of ’Hidden God’s Clothes,’ you remain undetected."
"You quicken your pace."
"Night falls, and you light the ’Ancient God Fire Lamp.’ The power of fire-stealing shields you from the influence of the Night’s Child."
"Dawn breaks, and you continue your journey."
"You reach the ’Heavenly Spring.’"
Nice.
Yang Qizhou was tempted to kiss the ’Hidden God’s Clothes’ in gratitude. Without this quasi-legendary ancient object, the unknown horrors of the wilderness would have rendered his game character utterly immobile, requiring thousands of deaths just to get here.
Acting quickly, Yang Qizhou eagerly clicked on the screen, refreshing the text in hopes of obtaining [Holy Redemption] as soon as possible.
Ding-dong.

[Leopard (Member): There’s a deal—100,000 emergency. I need to know the current status of the ’Judgement Ancient God.’ Clues are fine too, as long as they’re genuine in-game information.]
