Chapter 191: Chapter 189: Interlude in Reality

"Your figure quickly becomes blurry, fades, and vanishes."

"By the time you open your eyes again, you are already back at the peak of the ’Wisdom God’ Holy Image."

Mission complete.

Yang Qizhou stretched lazily, shut off his phone, and decided it was time to sleep.

Although he possessed the Star Spirit persona and had absorbed the minimum threshold of three ’Fate’ symbols, technically making him no longer mortal (and thus without human limitations like tiredness), he still decided to adopt caution. After all, the ’Dark Crow of Profane Fortune’ only had one use left, with 24 hours remaining until it would refresh. He worried something might come up during this time that required a save-and-load solution.

Thus, he saved this use of the ’Dark Crow of Profane Fortune’ as insurance.

That was his plan.

"Oh right, I also bought a few pages from the ’Book of Eras’ earlier. Might as well go through them before sleeping," Yang Qizhou muttered to himself, swiftly completing the necessary steps.

The five pages from the ’Book of Eras,’ aside from one duplicate, comprised the ’Secret Chapter,’ ’Chapter of Filth,’ ’Chapter of Old Days,’ and ’Chapter of the Dead River.’

Yang Qizhou examined them with high hopes, yet was slightly disappointed by their content.

The ’Secret Chapter’ fragment detailed the secrets surrounding the ’Hidden Wizard King,’ which didn’t differ much from prior revelations in the plot. It ended with the King being slain by the ’Lord of Blasphemy’ on the ’Day of Fallen.’

The ’Chapter of Filth’ fragment recounted the ’Polluted Mountain and Sea,’ the ’Lord of Filth,’ and some secrets from the End of the First Epoch. However, much of this was information he had already uncovered in the ’Mysticism Chapters’ of the Truth Hall.

The ’Chapter of Old Days’ and ’Chapter of the Dead River’ were similarly shallow. One discussed the distribution of ’Ancient Dominator’ forces during the First Epoch, while the other explored the origin of the ’Death’ symbol and the ruler of the ’River of Death.’ For now, their practical use was limited, though that might change in the future. frёewebnoѵēl.com

"The Giant Gods, the Mother Tree, the Golden Beast, the Black King—there truly were many types of Ancient Dominators during the First Epoch."

"But the ’Chapter of the Dead River’ is somewhat intriguing. According to the fragments of the ’Book of Eras,’ while the Death Lord is nominally the ruler of the ’River of Death,’ their authority over the river’s uppermost source was lost during the battle with the Doomsday Land. For various reasons, their control over the river—the final resting place of the dead—has significantly deteriorated."

"Speaking of which, these ’Old Gods,’ despite their lofty status, seem to be in quite a precarious situation on the Old Doomsday Land."

After roughly half an hour, Yang Qizhou finished the contents of the ’Book of Eras’ pages, stretched deeply once again, and returned to his bedroom. With a loud "flop," he collapsed onto his bed.

Before long,

the sound of snoring filled the room.

...

...

The next morning.

Yang Qizhou woke up early and ran into ’Little Ding,’ the mischievous girl. She still harbored a grudge against him for taking half her snacks the day before. Tilting her little head, she wore an expression that screamed, "Don’t even think of making me talk to you in this lifetime."

"I was originally thinking of taking you to the supermarket to buy lots of snacks as compensation, but seeing how much you dislike me, I suppose I don’t need to bother now," he teased.

Yang Qizhou knew this little runt all too well; if he wanted to, he could have her wrapped around his finger.

Sure enough,

Ding Xiaolan immediately jumped up. "What? The supermarket? Of course, I want to go! You took half my snacks last night—you have to compensate me! Otherwise, otherwise, otherwise..."

"Otherwise what?" Yang Qizhou smirked knowingly.

The little rascal declared seriously, "Otherwise, I’ll cry and make you regret it."

Yang Qizhou was totally defeated. He knew this little drama queen too well—she’d cry for real, with tears so genuine they’d break anyone’s heart. Coupled with the fact that what he did last night was truly unfair, his guilty conscience left him no choice but to agree.

After tidying up and informing Sister Xin, Yang Qizhou soon set off with the little rascal in tow, heading to the largest shopping center nearby.

When Little Ding entered the supermarket, it was like she had stumbled upon hidden treasure. Chips here, spicy snacks there, squid strips, pistachios, twists, snow cakes, shells—she wanted them all. And, of course, she couldn’t miss out on the sacred beverage of happiness: soda. She grabbed five giant bottles in one go.

She looked ready to haul the entire snack aisle home.

Initially, Yang Qizhou remained calm. But his expression darkened as she kept piling up the cart. It wasn’t about the money—thanks to the negative effects of the ’Hidden God’s Clothes’ being temporarily sealed, he had plenty of funds. The issue was, how on earth were they supposed to carry all of this?

In the end, under the oppressive authority of the Yang Emperor, Little Ding had to settle for less than a fifth of what she’d originally chosen.

Even so,

they ended up with three full bags of snacks.

On the way home, the little rascal grumbled incessantly, passionately denouncing Yang Qizhou for slashing her carefully picked snacks by four-fifths. But Yang Qizhou, with his famously thick skin, felt zero remorse. His "what can you even do about it" attitude made the mischievous girl grind her teeth in frustration.

"Hey! You bumped into my girlfriend and don’t even have the decency to apologize?"

"Get lost, or I’ll kill you."

"Oh, so you hit someone and now you’re acting tough? Alright, let’s see how you plan to kill me in front of everyone!"

On their way back, Yang Qizhou and Ding Xiaolan overheard an argument.

The little rascal had an innate nose for drama and would never miss a chance to watch a spectacle. She immediately pulled Yang Qizhou along, half-dragging him into the gathered crowd.

The commotion involved three people: a young couple, likely around twenty years old, and a man dressed in black. The man was about six foot three, so skinny he looked like a walking stick, as though a strong gust of wind could blow him over.

The young woman leaned against a wall, rubbing her shoulder with visible pain. Meanwhile, her boyfriend grabbed the skinny man by the collar, his face flushed red with anger. The boyfriend looked ready to land a solid punch at any moment.

"Qizhou bro, this guy is clearly all bark and no bite—a total wuss. His girlfriend got hurt, and he’s just blustering empty threats. If that scrawny dude weren’t so puny, he’d probably have already run off by now," Ding Xiaolan analyzed.

Yang Qizhou chuckled. "Oh? And how can you tell this guy is all bark and no bite?"

The little rascal replied earnestly, "Simple. If it were me, I wouldn’t waste time talking. I’d start throwing punches."

By this point, the argument had reached a boiling point. The boyfriend raised his fist several times, while the scrawny man continued to hurl increasingly cutting remarks. "You’re trash," "You’ll be dead tonight," and "I’m going to make you regret this" were among his choice phrases.

It seemed a fight was inevitable.

Yang Qizhou remarked, "If these two actually start fighting, the boyfriend’s not going to make it."

The little rascal was perplexed. "Why not? Sure, the boyfriend’s all talk, but he’s clearly stronger and more athletic. That scrawny guy doesn’t look like he could survive even one punch! I’m more worried the boyfriend might accidentally kill him!"

Yang Qizhou responded, "Because the stick-man has superpowers."

Indeed,

the stick-thin man was anything but ordinary. Despite his attempts to blend in as a normal person, Yang Qizhou’s Star Spirit persona allowed him to see through the guise instantly. This man was a player from the Deceit World, at a fairly advanced level. He had consumed the blood and flesh of an ’Ancient Dominator,’ stepping into the realm of Extraordinary Life with access to minor use of authority powers.

In comparison,

The man was on par with—or only marginally inferior to—a Secret Practitioner. In other words, he was a high-level player in Deceit World.

Yang Qizhou considered intervening, wondering if he should discreetly save the couple if the stick-man decided to unleash his supernatural powers.

But then,

The stick-thin Deceit World player abruptly backed down, his tone becoming uncharacteristically apologetic.

"I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to bump into your girlfriend—it’s entirely my fault. If hitting me will make you feel better, go ahead."

The boyfriend, startled by the sudden change in attitude, thrived on the newfound sense of triumph.

"Be more careful next time. Not everyone is as forgiving as me. Now scram."

Soon enough, the boyfriend walked off with his girlfriend, while the surrounding onlookers, disappointed by the lack of a fight, dispersed. Some whispered disdainfully about how spineless the skinny man had been.

Little Ding said, "See? I told you the boyfriend was stronger. But wow, that stick-man is such a coward! He was spewing death threats just a minute ago, then suddenly turned tail. I can’t believe he’s such a spineless fraud."

Yang Qizhou shook his head. "You’re wrong there. That man wasn’t being a coward; he was forced to back down because of trouble looming over his head."

He glanced meaningfully toward the opposite street, where a group of people stood scanning the area, as if searching for something—or someone. Among them was Zhou Xu, a Deceit Bureau member he had encountered before.

Little Ding asked, "Trouble? What trouble?"

Yang Qizhou responded with a firm flick to her forehead. "That’s grown-up business. Kids shouldn’t meddle."

Ignoring the little rascal’s resentful glare, he pulled her along toward home.

What Yang Qizhou assumed to be just a passing incident would soon prove to be anything but...

Not long after they left, the stick-thin man emerged from the shadows, his eyes glinting with an eerie light.
