Chapter 105: Chapter 103: The Terror of ’Polluted Mountain Edge
"The eerie cawing of the crow echoes in your mind, while the scene before your eyes rapidly blurs, distorts, and shatters..."
"In a daze, you see the goat-faced, placenta-like evil statue seemingly come to life. An illusory tide begins to surge, carrying with it an incomparably filthy yin power."
"You can’t help but curse aloud... Those old bastards really were chanting the full, forbidden name of the ’Unknown Evil God’ under the guise of asking questions, attempting to corrupt and pollute you with the evil power of the ’Desolate Mother.’ Thankfully, you reacted in time and immediately reset the ’Fate Line.’"
"Just you wait, I’ll shear you all again when I’m back."
"Yet, in your indignation, you forgot that in the previous Fate Line, it was you who deceived them out of the [Ancient Roots], learned from their mouths how to obtain the seven Holy Sacrifices of the ’King of Virtue,’ and used the reset to escape the binding of the ’Oath King.’
"Furthermore, using the [Golden Law Book], you crafted a new order and exploited the effects of the [Stone of Truth] to freeload a great deal of hidden knowledge."
"And now, you’ve once again invoked the power of the ’Dark Crow of Profane Fortune,’"
"Who really is the sly bastard here?"
"Hey, hey, can you get on with the plot without taunting me? Just do your job as ’the text,’ you bastard," Yang Qizhou grumbled resentfully.
Of course, his finger didn’t slow down in tapping the screen.
The text refreshed with rapid speed.
"You reopen your eyes near the ruins of ’Wind Bell Town.’
"Thinking of the earlier scene still leaves you trembling with lingering fear. That illusory tide laced with yin corruption—had you truly been polluted by that evil presence, you wouldn’t just have been reduced to a corpse. Your very psyche might have endured permanent and irreparable distortion."
"Desolate Mother..."
"You etch the name of this Evil God into your mind, vowing to settle scores if the opportunity ever arises."
"Thus, the explorer, who had just once again shamelessly sheared the ’Six Major Orders’ leaders out of their resources by underhanded and despicable means, stood yet again at a crossroads of fate."
"Do you return to the Fire Stealing Village to inquire with Lena about matters related to ’Asgard’?"
"Revisit ’Dark Mist Town’ to have a good talk with the ’Hexagonal Monster’?"
"Or choose neither of these options."
"Please make your decision."
...
...
Surprised to see an additional choice this time, Yang Qizhou rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
As for what to choose...
Having already raided ’Dark Mist Town’ once, going back would likely yield nothing more; plus, there was always the risk of further pollution or corruption by the ’Desolate Mother,’ and Yang Qizhou wasn’t about to make such a losing trade.
Returning to ’Fire Stealing Village’ to find Lena? That was even less necessary. Even if she knew something about ’Asgard,’ it certainly wouldn’t surpass the knowledge of the ’Hexagonal Monster.’
So Yang Qizhou chose option ’Three.’
He then immediately activated the ’Time-Space Gate’ feature to guide his in-game character back to the ’Truth Hall.’
"The [Dirty Pearl] is something leaked out from a map called ’Polluted Mountain and Sea.’ Based on its attributes, its purpose can be uncovered at the ’Polluted Mountain Edge.’ Might as well check out this map and see if I can trigger any related events."
The game text continued to refresh...
"You’ve returned to the ’Truth Hall.’
"’Little Seventeen’ bounds up to you cheerfully. After exchanging greetings, her expression suddenly turns to one of astonishment. She exclaims, ’The greatest wizard of the future! I really didn’t expect you to be this amazing—to think you found the "Yellow Beast Blood." Keep it up! With one more push, you can truly become a wizard.’
"You accept this praise with delight."
"You express to ’Little Seventeen’ your intent to visit the ’Polluted Mountain Edge,’ then approach the ’Time-Space Gate.’ In a flash of flowing light, your figure vanishes."
"You open your eyes atop a rock slick with black, polluted water."
"So this is the ’Polluted Mountain Edge,’ you ponder thoughtfully, considering how best to proceed."
"Suddenly, a shadow flashes before you. Before you can react, you feel yourself devoured. Razor-sharp teeth grind your flesh and bones to dust before digesting them into excrement."
"You have died."
???
What the hell is with this overwhelming sense of déjà vu?
Yang Qizhou couldn’t help but recall his first forays into [Deceit World]: looking directly at the sun would kill him, stepping into darkness would kill him, and death would come in myriad inexplicable ways—like even breathing was a sin.
And now, that same soul-crushing experience was happening all over again.
"’Little Seventeen’ did warn me. The ’Polluted Mountain Edge’ is a monstrously dangerous place teeming with filth and uncleanliness. It’s better to become a wizard first."
"Alright, maybe she wasn’t wrong."
Yang Qizhou once again used the [Destiny Fire Bottle], activated the Time-Space Gate, and attempted to return to the ’Truth Hall.’
The ’Polluted Mountain Edge’—yeah, it’s better to stay far away for now.
...
...
"The Fire of Destiny’s Protection flickers, rewriting your previous death. You reopen your eyes upon the polluted, black waters of the rock."
"Wasting no time, you immediately use teleportation."
"You’ve returned to the ’Truth Hall.’
...
...
Job done.
Yang Qizhou stretched deeply, glancing at the time—it was nearly 1:30 AM. Exhaustion finally hit him as he chucked his phone aside and trudged off to his bedroom, collapsing onto the bed and falling asleep almost instantly.
Even in his dreams, he muttered... ’Fox,’ no, ’Deceiver,’ how should I deal with you?
The next day,
The meeting with ’Fox’ was set for twelve noon, leaving him enough time. Yang Qizhou took a shower, ate lunch, and then headed out toward the boutique hotel in the Capital City where ’Fox’ was currently staying.
Of course, the ’Hidden God’s Clothes’ had to be activated.
He was in no mood to reveal his identity as the ’lamp holder,’ determined to eliminate any lurking threats.
Just before noon,
Yang Qizhou arrived at the boutique hotel entrance. Thanks to the effects of the ’Hidden God’s Clothes,’ no one noticed his presence.
He sneered. ’Rest Angel’ Archer—no, wait—Deceiver, fraudster, you royally screwed me in the previous Fate Line. This time, I’ll teach you exactly why lying is bad.
With a cruel grin, Yang Qizhou stepped forward.
At that moment,
His left eye flashed with indescribable colors, a guiding vision from ’the unseen things.’ His gaze locked on the hotel café where a woman sat. Her silky long hair cascaded down, framed by edge-rimmed glasses. Her fair complexion exuded a calm, girl-next-door charm.
No one told him directly, yet guided by ’Destiny,’ he knew she had come for him.
"Is this a new ability from housing the ’Ancient Roots’?"
"Not bad,"
"If I’ve guessed correctly, she must be the ’Secret Cultivator.’ Ha, as expected, she couldn’t resist making moves. Coming to the hotel where ’Fox’ resides? She’s likely trying to probe my weaknesses."
"Heh, too bad, I have the ’Hidden God’s Clothes...’"
"You can’t see me."
"No time to deal with you—first, I need to handle ’Fox.’ Though the Fate Line has been reset, being conned so badly by him still stings. He’s going to pay."
With that, Yang Qizhou ignored the ’Secret Cultivator,’ marching toward the room where ’Fox’ awaited. His grin promised retribution.
...
Inside a certain room,
A chubby individual clad in a checkered tank top with a round, puffy face and bulky frame resembled an innocuous fool. However, upon closer inspection, his cunning eyes betrayed his true nature.
"The ’Honey Badger’ should be arriving soon. This is a great opportunity."
"With my ’Deceiver’ talent, I can use words as tools to steer events according to my expectations."
"Sadly, I can only use this ability once per day."
"By leveraging this power, I’ll distort the animosity between ’Original Darkness’ and myself, while exploiting the ’Honey Badger’s’ compassion to pit the two against each other. This way, I’ll curry favor with ’Honey Badger’ for later use while resolving the threat of ’Original Darkness.’"
"A perfect two-birds, one-stone strategy."
As he muttered to himself, ’Chubby Fox’ already had his plan fully mapped out, ready to execute the moment ’Honey Badger’ appeared.
Big shots? In the face of the ’Deceiver,’ they’re all pawns to be used.
’Chubby Fox’ grew more smug with every thought.
But then,
A low voice rumbled.
"So I’m merely a tool in your plans,"
"You’re a bold one, aren’t you?"
The sudden voice startled ’Chubby Fox,’ who whipped around to discover that, at some point, someone had materialized in the room—a figure wearing a white mask and holding a gold-bound ancient book, looking at him with a chilling smile.
"Is this the ’Honey Badger’?" he stammered, flustered. "When did he arrive? How did I not sense him at all?"
’Chubby Fox’ trembled, his cunning failing to contain his panic.
Still, ’Chubby Fox’ managed to steel himself quickly. He activated his ’Deceiver’ ability, confident that this ’Fate Talent’ would reverse the situation.
After all, this ability had extricated him from countless near-death situations in [Deceit World].
"It’s not what it looks like, ’Honey Badger!’ Please let me explain..."
"What I was saying earlier referred to an incident a few days ago. While progressing through the storyline, I happened upon a ’Quasi-Epic’ artifact, only to have a big-shot wielding ’Original Darkness’ objects rob me of it using a [Neighborly Exchange] item. They even threatened to kill me in real life if they ever saw me again."
"I’m terrified, helpless—I had no idea what to do!"
"Then you appeared, ’Honey Badger.’ I thought with your strength, you could help me seek justice."
"It was wrong of me to scheme,"
"But I did it only because I didn’t want to die!"
’Chubby Fox’s’ emotional performance, bolstered by his ’Deceiver’ talent, resonated with desperation and raw conviction, striking directly at the heart.
Yet,
A mocking voice broke that illusion.
"Had I not known about your ’Deceiver’ attribute, I might’ve actually believed you. Oh, and Fox? Haven’t you noticed something strange clinging to you?"
"That... would be the stench of disorder."
