Chapter 47: Good boys get rewards

Andrew was humming to himself as he made dinner, glancing over at Maxwell every once in a while as he worked away. Maxwell had taken a laptop from his office and had joined him in the kitchen as he made dinner. Because of everything that had happened during the day, he was a little bit behind on work.

Apparently, he had anticipated that something was going to come to a head, so he had put some plans in place with Mr. Newman. Andrew hated that Maxwell had to do that, but at the same time, he was glad that he was cared for. It wasn’t something he was used to, being considered and valued, but he didn’t hate it.

Smiling to himself, he turned off the timer and set about plating dinner. Tonight they were having baked maple salmon with broccoli and rice.

"We’re almost ready here Max." Andrew told him, and Maxwell sighed.

"Alright. I’ll set the table." It was a pattern they had fallen into as time went on. Andrew would cook, and Maxwell would set the table. It had been an event when Maxwell had first started doing it, since he had no idea where to find anything, but he did know where everything went. Even better than Andrew. His status as a rich kid showed in the oddest ways.

Maxwell got up from the counter, leaving the laptop open as he went about setting up the dining room table. Andrew was bringing out the plates as he was getting their water glasses ready. Maxwell only drank a specific type of water, and Andrew wanted to tease him about it, but at the same time, it did taste good. As someone who used to do a lot of projects involved in maintaining water purification facilities, he understood why Maxwell could be drinking different water.

Dinner was quiet, but not in an uncomfortable way. It was more that things felt like they had settled down and this was a sense of normalcy. Especially after Maxwell’s...craving had been settled, things felt good. Great even. Andrew was riding on a high again.

"You need to look over at least one informational brochure that Dr. Smith brought by bedtime." Maxwell warned as dinner was almost finished.

Andrew’s high disappeared.

"Do I really?" Andrew asked, pouting, and Maxwell glared at him.

"Yes you do. You’re behind, and I’m worried about you. Yes he is going to give you lessons in person now, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do some reading on your own. For your information, I’m the one who brought up going to therapy. I read a bunch of studies that have come out on those who have manifested late and it’s proven talking to others who are in a similar situation as you has helped them. Even if it is a recent development, people are being open with the information." Maxwell told him, his tone prim and proper, and Andrew swallowed.

That meant it was non-negotiable. Andrew was going to therapy.

"I just...If I accept this, I’m different from them." Andrew said slowly, the food not tasting well in his mouth anymore.

"Other true alphas have manifested. I’ve been looking for a group that has other true alphas who are going to therapy. I think it’d be an anonymous group since most true alphas come from wealthier families so they wouldn’t want to advertise that they have members who, in their mind, are defective. I think you would resonate with them quite well." Andrew winced at the way Maxwell said that.

"I’m not that bad." He protested, and Maxwell stopped elegantly scoping his food onto his fork to stare at his boyfriend. Andrew slowly turned red before Maxwell sighed and put down his fork.

"Andrew, baby, you nearly killed yourself because you didn’t want to be like your father. If that doesn’t scream daddy issues, I honestly don’t know what else would. Do you think any beta who grew up in a family actually with your father would come out without the same level of issues? Not that I would say all families are like that, but I feel like you know what I’m getting at." Andrew’s throat worked at being so thoroughly called out. He pushed a piece of broccoli around on his plate.

"How would it be anonymous then?" Andrew asked.

"It would be over the internet at a specific time in a secure chat room." Maxwell answered calmly, and a sense of warning went up his spine.

"You already have one lined up, don’t you?" Maxwell smiled warmly at him, his blue eyes sparkling.

"My Andy is so smart, isn’t he? I have one lined up for two days from now. At 2 pm. They said that there weren’t a lot of members, so that should make you feel more comfortable, shouldn’t it?" Maxwell offered, and Andrew made a face. He was uncomfortable with the situation, but at the same time, he didn’t feel like he had a right to complain. Especially after what happened today.

Andrew sighed, pushing his plate away completely and staring at Maxwell.

"How soon after I start going to therapy can I get back to work? I’m bored out of my mind. As much as I am enjoying this house husband time, I can feel my brain pulsing. I need something else. Even brain puzzles or something like that." Maxwell chuckled, smiling at him.

"We aren’t holding you back because we want to harm you. Getting you a legal pass has taken longer than my Father and I thought it would. Once Dr. Smith clears you, and you learn how to control your pheromones, I’ll let you go. Does that appease you, husband?" Andrew’s jaw dropped and Maxwell leaned in to pick up his jaw just to kiss him. "Teasing you is so much fun." He said against his lips, his tone warm and pleased before he leaned back, licking his lips.

Andrew sat back, dazed at Maxwell’s words and behaviours. He had liked Maxwell before, especially as a friend, but now? It wasn’t that he was meeting a different person but...he was aware of how much Maxwell had held back from showing him. He truly trusted him, and it made something warm inside of Andrew’s chest grow.

"O-Okay, so what does that mean?" Andrew asked, glossing over what Maxwell had said at the end. Maxwell laughed, smiling at him.

"It means that you need to read your informational brochures. I’m not helping you without proof you are trying to improve yourself." Andrew groaned, resting his head on his hands against the table. When he had his moment, he turned his head to stare at Maxwell, his glasses askew. Maxwell smirked.

"Why do you hate me?" Andrew asked, sad and dejected and Maxwell laughed.

"I could never hate such a cutie. I can, however, be mad at them for not taking care of themselves. If you do well, I might even let you do something naughty with me." Andrew pouted, and Maxwell shook in his seat.

"Something naughty you want to do, or something naughty I want to do?" Andrew asked, and Maxwell felt his eyes widen, before he leaned forward, interested.

"What is it you want to do, Andrew?" He shook his head, unwilling to answer.

"You’re a master negotiator. If I tell you and you don’t want to do it, you’ll find a way to coax me towards your option. I’m not telling you until I confirm it." Maxwell, who loved when Andrew got all pouty and upset since it was so unlike him, contemplated his options. It took him a full five minutes before Maxwell answered, and Andrew sweated the whole time. He had been mostly joking, but at the same time...Maxwell liked to do what he was comfortable with.

Andrew didn’t really count anything they did when he was in a rut as a ’normal’ time for them. And since then, they had really only used two positions. Not that he was complaining. Anything Maxwell was comfortable with. But he also...wanted to expand his options without springing it on him in the moment. Maxwell wasn’t a risk taker in that regard.

He took risks, he was a businessman after all, but he was a deliberate kind of guy. He considered all of his options before he made a move. So this was a calculated move on Andrew’s part as well. Get Maxwell thinking about it, so that he could slowly introduce them into their everyday life. Andrew would love to be able to make love to Maxwell in the kitchen, bent over so he could see his plump ass shake as he drove into him from behind.

But that wasn’t on the table. Hell, it wasn’t even in the file folder yet. Maxwell liked to be in control, and so, Andrew had to do this slowly.

"Alright. Within reason, of course. I’m not wearing a bunny suit." He stated firmly, and Andrew blinked, before laughing.

"You, as a bunny? That would be so cute!" Maxwell’s face fell almost immediately, and Andrew smiled at him. "I’m kidding, of course. It wasn’t even on my radar until you said so. No, I was thinking more in the way of expanding our positions available to us. Have you thought about that before?" Andrew asked and watched as Maxwell hesitated. He seemed torn, and Andrew smiled at him. He was so fucking cute.
