Chapter 142: The beginning of his revenge

Chapter 142: The beginning of his revenge

"You look fine. Stop fussing." Maxwell reached up and smacked Andrew’s hand that was playing with the neck of his sweater.

"But you said-"

"I was teasing. You look fine. Now, hurry up. I bet everyone is already there, and that they’re ready to make fun of us." Maxwell, who was still walking with wobbly legs, tried to speed up his gait, and almost ran into someone who was walking by. Andrew grabbed him before he could topple over with a chuckle.

"I’m sure that we’re going to be the last ones there, so there is no need to rush." Maxwell groaned.

"That’s the worst thing you could have said right now. I’m going to be teased mercilessly." Maxwell declared, clearly upset and Andrew wrapped his arm around his shoulder, pulling him close against him. He pressed a kiss against the top of his head, smiling.

"Well, probably not as bad as your Mother is going to tease me personally." Andrew stated, and Maxwell sighed.

"She’s not like Ben. Or Will. She’ll be more subtle." Maxwell told him, but Andrew wasn’t as sure as he was. Andrew was fresh blood. A new face in the family. They could be nicer to him, or they could attack him the most. Like a new friend to a friend group.

At least, that was how Andrew was going to view it. He didn’t have a big family.

Andrew could hear them before Andrew could see them. The laughter of Maxwell’s Mom filled the air before Amir’s grandmother’s voice chipped into the conversation. Andrew gulped. He was going into a warzone in his mind. This might be just as bad as when he was brought to meet them for the first time.

Maxwell, ever the straightforward man that he was, pushed open the glass doors before entering into the room.

It was a greenhouse, or a sunroom, with a high vaulted glass ceiling that showed off the light dusting of snow that must have fallen during the night. The paneling was intense, intricate, and most have cost a pretty penny.

The space was layered, where you had to step down a few steps into a tiled, flat area, that was occupied with some tasteful plants, a few soft looking chairs and loveseats, and a few decorations. The second area was further in, another few steps down, and that was where the newly mixed family was.

A large wooden table, covered in a white, silken cloth was set with several stacks of trays Andrew had only seen the little trays in movies before, and was quite surprised that they were actually a real thing. The rest of the table was set up with winter themed decor. Pine cones, dried orange slices, as well as other aromatic things. Each seat had a place setting set with cutlery, plates, and several glasses.

Andrew glanced around the room and noticed that there was a little coffee station set up near the back of the room against the windows. It gave whoever needed coffee and got up to make a coffee a nice, pretty view. It made sense, since Mrs. Beckett and Amir’s grandmother were standing there at the moment, chatting away to each other.

The rest of the family was sat around the table, not touching the food piled onto the little trays, and were busy chatting to each other.

Ben and Amir were the first to catch sight of them, and Amir’s smile was blinding as he pushed up his glasses.

"Andy! Max!" He called and Maxwell winced. Ben laughed, pulling his new husband against his side and pressing a kiss against his temple.

"My sweet, you should lower your voice. No doubt Maxy is having a very bad morning." Maxwell growled at his older brother, holding onto Andrew as he tried to move down the steps basically on his own. Andrew smiled, not helping him more than he asked.

"Well, I’m sure you aren’t feeling any better, Ben." Andrew told him with a smile and Ben snorted.

"Ugh. You’re defending him? After what he had you do? I can’t believe you." Andrew blinked, turning his gaze to Maxwell’s Mother, who shook her head, her eyes wide. She hadn’t told Ben, and Ben raised an eyebrow before glancing at his Mother. "You know, the shot? Or am I missing out on something?" Andrew let out a relieved laugh.

The shot? Oh, that was child’s play. That wasn’t even that bad. If they had seen Andrew in his clubbing days, they would blush.

"Oh! Well, that wasn’t really anything to be embarrassed about." Ben’s eyes widened, and he turned to look at his Father, who also seemed surprised.

"That wasn’t...Max, what kind of man did you bring into our fold?" Ben demanded, his words harsh, but his eyes dancing. Andrew knew he wasn’t being mean in the slightest as Maxwell groaned, stepping down the second set of steps and wobbling towards a chair.

"I brought my next door neighbour. Why? Do you have a problem with him?" Maxwell glared at his older brother and Ben chuckled.

"You look like death. It’s hard to believe that Andy here let you leave looking like that." Ben teased, and Amir leaned into him, sighing.

"Don’t tease him too much. Max was keeping an eye out for me, even when he was drunk. Do you remember much, Max?" Amir asked and Maxwell sighed. Andrew answered for him, a devious grin on his face.

"No, he does not. Speaking of, does anyone want me to send them something really cute?" Maxwell, who had no idea what Andrew was talking about, but had a sneaking suspicion he wasn’t going to like it, turned and glared at him.

"What are you talking about?" Maxwell asked while everyone else in the room perked up.

"Something cute? What did you get?" Maxwell’s Mom rushed over and Andrew chuckled.

"Text me your numbers." Andrew told them, waiting for everyone to get out their phones before he listed off his number. Soon, he had everyone’s numbers, and Andrew sent off a few seconds of the video he’d taken last night. Just the last little bit. He wasn’t going to rat Amir out. Andrew was a good man.

Soon, the sound of Maxwell cheerfully yelling ’nope!’ echoed around the room and Maxwell was so flushed he was trembling.

"Andrew Knox!" Maxwell roared and Andrew moved out of Maxwell’s reach, more than aware that he wasn’t going to be able to move fast enough to hurt him.

"I think it’s only fair. You don’t even remember what you did last night." Andrew protested. Maxwell’s face was flaming. Andrew didn’t know if it was because his family had a video of him being adorable, or because they had a video of Maxwell confessing his love for Andrew.

"Awe. This is so stinking cute!" Amir said on a sigh, his eyes watering. "You’re so sweet, Max! Andrew, thank you for sharing." He was so genuine with his words that part of Maxwell’s anger faded, but not enough.

"That’s not fair, Andrew. You can’t hold that against me." Andrew, who was wearing a turtleneck that made him feel confined because of what Maxwell did last night, raised his eyebrows. Then, he shoved his phone into his back pocket and rolled up the sleeves of his sweater. Amir gasped and Maxwell’s eyes went wide, his face flushing as he looked at the marks on Andrew’s wrists.

"I should not hold that against you, huh?" Andrew asked, narrowing his gaze. "Hmm. My wrists beg to differ." Maxwell glanced around the room, noticing the way that Ben was hiding his mouth behind his hand and he gripped tightly onto the arms of the chair he was sitting in.

"T-That’s not, I know I would have-Andrew!" Maxwell exclaimed, flustered and embarrassed and Andrew laughed.

"Alright, alright. I’ll stop. If it makes you feel better, I didn’t send the full video." Maxwell paled.

"There’s more?" He demanded, horrified and Andrew grinned.

"Oh yes, there is more. I’m keeping that for myself." He said warmly, and Maxwell looked ill. Ben started laughing and Amir joined in.

"Oh man. What a devious plan. Maxwell, you brought in someone who could challenge you, and you didn’t even know it. Andy, come sit down. You both look like you could use a few snacks. You missed breakfast. We sent someone to wake you two, but no one answered." Ben told him, his eyes sparkling.

Andrew, who was going to sit beside Maxwell, turned and headed for the little coffee station.

"You drink coffee?" Maxwell asked, surprised, and Andrew gave him a guilty look.

"Only sometimes. I don’t like the taste, so it’s normally just sugar with a hint of coffee." Maxwell frowned.

"You never brought it up before." Maxwell muttered, and Andrew was surprised that everyone was listening to them so intently. All other conversations had halted, and Andrew was a little nervous that everyone was listening to them bicker.

"It was never important before. I didn’t need it." Andrew told Maxwell, and Maxwell frowned.

"If you wanted a coffee machine, you could have just said something." Andrew sighed, trying to figure out how to use the machine that was over here, and once he had a cup of coffee being made, he turned to look at the smaller man.

"Max." Andrew started. "I didn’t say anything because I truly don’t care if I have coffee or not. I take advantage of it when it’s around, but it’s not good for me. I’ve never reacted super well to caffeine, so it’s a good thing it’s not in the house all the time. Can you imagine me on caffeine, all the time?" Maxwell furrowed his brow, before his lips twitched.

"You would be adorable. You’d probably bounce off the walls." Maxwell said and Andrew sighed.

"Or I’d have a heart attack. So, no, don’t worry your pretty little head over it, alright?" Andrew told him and Maxwell crossed his arms, thoughtful.

"For now. If there is anything you need in the house, you have to tell me." Maxwell was practically threatening him, and Andrew chuckled as the fancy coffee machine behind him finished working away. Andrew turned and made his coffee, before coming over and sitting down next to him.

"Have you two fully merged your houses?" Amir’s grandfather asked, and Andrew jerked, halfway into sitting down. Maxwell, who normally would have glared at someone who asked that, froze as well.

Uh, that was...a very awkward question to answer.
