Chapter 116: I’ve never been to a private island before
Andrew was very, very nervous. Probably the most nervous he’d been in his life besides meeting Maxwell’s parents. This was even worse.
Maxwell was next to him, calm and collected. At least, outwardly. Andrew knew that he was shaking his leg in the footwell. He was resting his head against his hand as they sat in the backseat of the expensive car that had picked them up. His head was turned away from Andrew, staring outside as the normal, everyday scenery passed them by.
He was being quite...calm given how Andrew’s pheromones felt like an untamed beast in the car with them. He was doing his best, and had taken the medication that Michael recommended, but this was...
They were on the way to the wedding venue. Ahead of time. Because Ben, Amir and the rest of the family wanted to get ready together. With Andrew and Maxwell. Andrew was panicking because it felt like they had accepted him very quickly. The fact that Maxwell’s Father had practically forced him into accepting the clothing he had brought earlier in the week, and then made him do a little fashion show, showing off what he’d bought.
Maxwell, his Father, and Michael had selected three suits from what felt like 20 he had brought with him for the day. All of them were what he would consider flashy. The only comfort was that Maxwell wasn’t wearing a black suit either, and that they were practically a matching set.
Andrew sensed a bit of collusion on their part, but neither of them fessed up to it.
It didn’t mean that Andrew felt any better about it.
He felt like he was getting sucked into a world he didn’t understand. They were taking a car ride to a helicopter pad. So that they could then use that to get to the private island that the couple had decided to get married on. That Maxwell’s parents already owned.
It was a level of wealth Andrew had only seen in movies and t.v. shows previously, and Maxwell had no idea that Andrew was freaking out about that. Well, he wasn’t an idiot, so he knew that Andrew was freaking out about something. Andrew was also quite obvious about it.
"Are you nervous about the flight?" Maxwell asked into the quiet cab of the car and Andrew flinched.
"N-Nervous?" He squeaked, and Maxwell turned to him, smirking slightly.
"Yes, Andrew. Nervous. You’ve never flown in a helicopter, have you?" Andrew shook his head and Maxwell smiled at him. His eyes were warm, blue, and Andrew could stare into them all day. "Don’t worry. Our pilot is quite capable. They used to be a stunt pilot, so they are very skilled." Maxwell was trying to soothe him, and Andrew appreciated it. Most of the time. But he did think he just needed to be...nervous for a little bit.
"Thank you for telling me that, Max." Andrew told him, giving him a slightly warped smile. Maxwell watched him for a moment, before he sighed and turned, slamming his body into Andrew’s. He closed his eyes as Andrew panicked.
"I’m tired. I’m just going to close my eyes for a few moments until we get to the helipad. Is that alright?" He was asking, but it was already too late for Andrew to say no to him. Especially with his warmth against him, his eyes closed, and his arms crossed. Andrew shifted, accommodating the man until he was resting against Andrew a bit more comfortably. Maxwell’s lips twitched, but he didn’t speak again.
"Of course you can." Andrew said quietly, aware that they weren’t alone in the car. One of the guards that was normally stationed outside of the house was driving them today. In one of Maxwell’s expensive cars, instead of one sent by Maxwell’s parents. It had been requested by Maxwell’s Father, but Maxwell had been in charge of it.
In fact, the back of the car was filled with gifts, clothes, and other things for their stay at the island. Michael had approved a full ass fucking stay on a private island with a bunch of people around.
On one hand, Andrew was proud of his development, and that spending time with Maxwell during his heat had really really helped him. On the other hand, he kind of hoped he was going to have an out to escape being around what he would classify as the ’uber rich’. Wealth that he couldn’t even quantify.
He was kicking himself for neglecting that aspect of his life for so long. If he had at least paid attention he would have realised what he was getting into.
This wasn’t a panic in the sense he was doubting if Maxwell was worth it. He was definitely worth it, but he was also worried he was going to embarrass him. And himself. Or the whole family. He would never be able to live it down internally if he ruined Ben and Amir’s wedding. Not after finding out that Amir was pregnant again.
Reaching down, he began to run his hands through Maxwell’s unstyled hair, enjoying the feeling. Since his family wanted to get ready together, Maxwell had barely made himself ’presentable’ in his normal sense. He almost looked like a normal person. Outside of his already incredible good looks of course.
If Andrew didn’t know him, he might even mistake him for a normal man on the street. Or even a model. But no, he was an incredible business man, who could sniff out weaknesses on others. And he trusted Andrew enough to let him touch him while he was resting his eyes in a car on the way to his brother’s wedding. That Andrew was invited to practically last minute all because Maxwell’s Father had liked him, and he and Ben had worked it out.
The panic was back again.
Andrew fought with himself internally all the way to the helipad. He fought with himself all the way across the water to the private island. He fought with himself as they landed on the island. He was just struggling, and was even more so when Maxwell told him someone else was going to unload all of their things and bring them to their rooms.
Andrew just had to sit tight, look pretty, and that was it.
That sent Andrew on a whole different spiral, but after Maxwell had taken his hand, kissed the back of it, and given it a squeeze, he was able to calm down again. It was amazing what a simple touch from Maxwell could do to his body.
Andrew wanted to let Maxwell know that too.
Sighing, Maxwell stopped from where he was leading them through a mansion that he was quite familiar with, and turned to give Andrew a concerned look.
"What’s wrong? You’ve been out of sorts this whole time. Is something wrong? Should we go back?" He asked seriously, and Andrew shook his head. Instead, he leaned forward, pressing his forehead against Maxwell’s shoulder, inhaling his scent.
"You make this so much easier for me. I cannot imagine doing this without you by my side. I am forever grateful for your existence, Max." Andrew’s voice trembled slightly as his grip tightened on Maxwell’s hand, giving it a squeeze. "You mean everything to me." Andrew whispered quietly, and let Maxwell angle his head up with his free hand. Maxwell’s expression was tender, soft.
"Oh Baby, you’re telling me that right now? Right before we are supposed to meet the soon to be happy couple? You couldn’t have waited an hour at least?" Maxwell complained, but there was no bite to his words. Andrew shook his head.
"I needed to tell you now." Andrew replied, and Maxwell closed his eyes, sighing softly. When he opened them, there was an edge to them.
"You better be prepared to be jumped when we get back to our room. It’s going to cut into our prep time, but I want to reward you for being such a good man for me. You’re doing so well, Andrew. I mean it. Your pheromones have only fluctuated once, and they went to me. You didn’t spread it to anyone else." Maxwell’s expression was so warm that Andrew had to gulp the words down his throat.
It was too early.
They had only been dating a month. Even if Maxwell behaved as if they were never going to break up, he didn’t want to rush into this. Maxwell could potentially not feel the same way. Not yet, at least, and he wanted to be sure of his feelings before he said it.
He wanted to hear the words back.
"You are my heartbeat, Maxy." Andrew whispered, and Maxwell’s soft expression crumbled. His normally stoic and put together face shifted, and Andrew could feel a great wave of emotions coming off of him.
"That is not fair, Andrew. We are at someone else’s wedding. You cannot say things like that." Maxwell whispered, and Andrew watched as Maxwell’s eyes welled. His wet, blue eyes stared at him, before he glanced around and yanked Andrew into a slightly darker corner and yanked his head down until their lips were locked together.
Maxwell kissed him like he was trying to prove a point. Like he wanted Andrew so completely, so totally, that there was nothing else but them in the world. Andrew melted into the kiss, his grip on Maxwell’s hips tight as the man clung to his neck, his fingers in his hair.
They only halted when they heard someone race past them down the hall.
Pulling away from each other, Maxwell and Andrew stared into each other’s eyes. Their lips weren’t far apart, their noses gently brushing against each other. Maxwell played with a slightly longer part of Andrew’s hair as Andrew swallowed.
"Did you dislike my words?" Andrew asked, already knowing the answer. Maxwell moved and bit Andrew’s lip between his teeth. Andrew hissed out air at the pain.
"You already know the answer." Maxwell replied, his tone slightly tart, but he didn’t pull away. "Now I have to control my body’s reaction to you. The only saving grace I have is that my parents are bonded, and so are Ben and Amir. Will isn’t, and he is going to tease me endlessly if he catches a sniff of me right now." Maxwell grumbled, and Andrew couldn’t help himself. He pressed his lips against his, stealing his grumpiness for himself.
"I’m sorry you have to hide it, but I’m not sorry that you feel that way." Andrew whispered, and Maxwell groaned. He pulled away, putting his hands on Andrew’s chest.
"Get away from me so I can at least pretend I’m not going to jump your bones before my brother’s ceremony." Andrew smiled, taking a step away from him as he looked over Maxwell’s slightly flushed skin.
Maxwell glanced at him, his blue eyes still a little damp, and his expression complicated. He held out his hand for Andrew, glancing away from him. Andrew took it easily, happily, and Maxwell led him down the hallway once more.
Andrew could feel Maxwell glancing at him now, and the nervous part of him soothed. No matter what, he had Maxwell with him. He was going to be okay. Maxwell wouldn’t let him embarrass him, or, would never consider it that way. He hoped.
