Chapter 83: LXXXIII. Good Place
Chapter 83: LXXXIII. Good Place
Two days had passed.
Early morning.
The dim sky at the break between sea and heaven began to diffuse a horizontal glimmer.
It was time to board the ship as agreed, a direct journey to Heaven Port awaited.
To avoid drawing attention,
Caroso opted for a mid-upper-class inn; at sea there was no choice but to bed down on the floor, letting Goria and Fafna sleep on the bed.
Here, he booked two rooms with Caroso remaining nearby to respond to any events instantaneously.
This area wasn’t controlled by Aran’s forces; although the Southern Continent was rich in crops and had a suitable climate, it was relatively poor in mineral resources. Basic minerals were abundant, but the spiritual ores were quite limited. Being a grain-producing land that could provide stable and low-priced crops without internal strife or natural disasters was all that could be hoped for. The Emperor showed little interest, his thoughts occupied with pulling off flashy stunts and tugging wars with well-established powers of the Western Continent.
There had been no encounter with any danger in these days.
At the vanity.
Goria was brushing Fafna’s hair as she looked in the mirror.
Fafna’s natural appearance, even unadorned, was like a sculpture that a maestro had devoted their life to portraying; her beauty, youthfulness, and ethereal female charm were incomparable. As a pure breed from the Dragon Clan, a True Dragon, she was wholly different from normal humans. Her waterfall-like silver hair shimmered brilliantly as if poured straight from the Milky Way, and her treasure-like silver-blue eyes were absolutely captivating. The few dragon scales beneath her eyes didn’t feel out of place but rather added to her ethereal beauty.
She seemed puzzled as Goria had been combing her hair for some time without any sign of stopping, as if hesitating.
"Maybe you should just run away."
Goria murmured in a voice so faint she could barely hear herself.
She didn’t know how the people of Lostra would treat Fafna; whether the royal family there would treat her like kin or train her as a killing machine to use against the Emperor.
"I didn’t hear that ah..."
Fafna giggled foolishly.
"It’s nothing. Do you want to put on some lipstick? It would make you look more like an adult."
Goria suggested, as there was still time before reaching Heaven Port; she could keep company with her and make a decision later. She truly treated Fafna as if she were her own little sister.
"Aren’t I already an adult?"
Fafna looked surprised.
"By age, yes, but not by mindset."
Goria facepalmed.
"I’m so hungry..."
"Then let’s eat our fill before leaving."
Meanwhile.
On the deck of SS Fuma Keqing Revenge.
It was a completely different scene.
All the cold-blooded desperados had returned to the ship after two days of wild debauchery, entering sage time, honestly working.
Rein was utterly bored as he talked to Claude about Archer boarding the ship.
"At that time, we buddies had gone pilfering, docked the ship at an acquaintance’s place, went inland looking for work, killed around a hundred and eighty people, turned all the corrupt officials upside down, and robbed the Beima Nobles’ gifts intended for a minister’s son’s wedding feast. It was a massive haul, worth six hundred Golden Dragons.
We were ready to head back.
On the way back, we just picked any inn to rest.
What was the name of that town, I forget, but anyways, we were aiming to keep a low profile and were about to have dinner and leave from a rubbish tavern.
Archer, this guy poorer than poor, loathsome to people and dogs, reeking of alcohol, ordered a large table of dishes, eating alone, was just about to dine and dash.
After finishing, he was about to leave; the meal was all meat and fish, almost costing one silver coin. They couldn’t let him go, and he was stopped.
General Fen didn’t want to complicate things, worrying it would catch the sheriff’s attention and we were already on Judicial Hall’s radar. We had to be extremely discreet—it was just forty copper coins, we paid his bill as a good deed."
Rein took a puff of his cigarette, thinking that was the most foolish decision General Fen had ever made in his life.
Claude had been on the ship for eleven days, and it was easy to tell under the same roof who was the most diligent, who was the laziest, and who was a hopeless case.
Archer was definitely the most unreliable person on the ship, hands down.
Rein continued while puffing out clouds of smoke.
"Guess what?
Mr. Archer hadn’t even had his fill of drinking yet, he shamelessly joined our table for a big drink, complained about the food being terrible, saying it was far worse than his cooking, really bottom of the barrel stuff.
Liszt was dumbfounded. Where did this idiot come from?
But it wasn’t the time to be petty; we had barely touched our food and were ready to leave, not wanting to argue with this crazy vagabond.
But this damn guy thought we looked familiar, like he’d seen us somewhere before, maybe on a bounty order. He said he wanted to join us.
Later we learned that this guy had been a bounty hunter for a while, damn it.
At that time, Liszt was scared cold, god damn joining us, was this even the time to join?
But the tavern was bursting with people; otherwise, we would have killed him on the spot.
Liszt challenged him, said he could join if he brought an ’Oath of Loyalty.’ Right then, go skin a noble or even an honorable one, and that would count as joining.
We thought this drunkard would know it was hard and just walk away, and we peacefully continued eating.
We hadn’t even finished eating; not even ten minutes had passed.
Archer, the bastard, had some manly courage in him. Like a man falling from the sky, he went ahead and skinned the local baron and returned with a bunch of soldiers following him.
Fuck, a getaway started, and we almost flew back to the East Shore."
Rein recalled with amazement. It was incredibly incredible.
As Claude listened, he wondered how such a man could even join the crew. He himself hadn’t been spared the hassle of tests.
At that moment,
Goria and her group ascended the gangway onto the deck, where Fafna was still clad in a black robe and wearing a mask.
But the core members of Black Sail looked at them differently now, aware that underneath that black robe hid a terrifyingly powerful beauty who could stir up major trouble on the continent.
The core members felt guilty; after all, there were big things to do once they arrived at their destination. They only glanced once before withdrawing their gazes.
The trio didn’t notice anything unusual and returned to their previously occupied room.
Now that they had traveled almost halfway, they headed straight to Heaven Port.
Fen and the bald tattooed man worked quickly; this morning all the goods could be delivered here, assembled by noon, and ready to set sail.
Swan admitted that he had underestimated Liszt before but was now impressed by Liszt’s ambition.
If you’re going to play, play big!
Create a... New Heavenly Port!
"Everyone is here now; once the cargo arrives and everything is packed, the weight balanced in the hold is adjusted, we can head to... the Cosmic Center."
Liszt had never been this excited; this time he returned to shake things up for those mixed breeds on the islands.
Claude had never been there, but the place was famously notorious. Although the Inner Sea was Golden Waters, pirate hideouts were traditionally run by a country appointing a representative to play the role of a fence, harboring fence leaders, followed by countries crazily issuing privateer certificates in a free-for-all mess.
Only Heaven Port was completely led by pirates, also a haven for fugitives from around the world, hard to imagine what it was like.
Claude couldn’t help but ask again.
"Heaven Port, what is it like?"
He asked Liszt.
"That’s a good place."
Liszt took a puff from his cigarette.
"The good thing is, damn it, the East Sea Stage, if you’re tough, come over. If you’re not, it’s even more thrilling; killing is truly liberating."
Liszt grinned maliciously, continuing to explain.
