Chapter 78: LXXVIII. Three Stages

Chapter 78: LXXVIII. Three Stages

"Waste will always be just that, waste, Even if the environment changes, it’s the same.

Sharon could tell that William had made a special effort to dress up, which was nauseating. He had no basic sense whatsoever. The things gained through betrayal only made him look even uglier.

Even if a Priest returned from the restroom.

Sharon didn’t try to hide her disdain for William, her deep blue eyes filled with contempt.

In the Northern Prison, hundreds of students who had been ’transferred’ there from the Dark Matter Underground Research Institute were abused by that Magician, locked up in the dungeon like experimental material, treated as if they were livestock.

Forty-two people died. Sharon remembered so clearly because that Magician dissected them in various ways, humiliated them, cut them open as if they were wild animals.

And for the sake of testing Magic Techniques, he tortured them to death in unimaginably horrific ways.

Everyone... died in a different way.

It’s a bit cruel to say, but fortunately, that Magician had captured various Alien Races from different dimensions and planes. If it were only their group of students, they would probably all have been killed by now.

One week’s time.

Everyone was trapped in that Land of Frost for a full week.

If it hadn’t been for Liszt and the other four senior students, when the Magician traveled far away, everyone would have met a very tragic end there.

That scene was too deeply ingrained in her memory, still making her tremble with fear upon recollection.

A senior student lured the Magician’s apprentice to the iron bars.

Liszt and the four senior students unleashed their preserved strength in an instant, using the chains on their hands to strangle the apprentice’s head and limbs, nearly dismembering him, and killing him on the spot in front of the iron bars.

Only then did they obtain the keys.

After exiting, they realized they were at the very bottom of a big prison and knew they couldn’t escape on their own.

By observing the Magician for a week, they found a bottle of highly corrosive substance and released all the felons within the prison.

The situation was too chaotic at that time.

Guards and criminals were fighting everywhere.

Many schoolmates died during the escape, their flesh torn and their entrails burst.

Eventually, in the utter chaos and the wintry blizzard of the Northern Realm, everyone scattered, their whereabouts unknown.

And now.

William was actually obedient to such a person, hunting down his own classmates.

If it weren’t for Sharon being smart and joining the Eternal Sect, her fate would be hard to say.

Sharon was by no means the lowest-ranking nun.

Those who could attend with the Priest were all High Order Clergy; her status was only one rank below the Priest.

Inside a high-end restaurant.

There was a musician playing music, the low-decibel ambient sound extremely comfortable, with a great distance between each seating position, so that conversations wouldn’t interfere with each other.

And the people who came here were all elites, who wouldn’t create a ruckus by speaking loudly.

Finally.

William could no longer bear such contempt, perhaps more so his own inner shame, and he exploded in anger.

"You really are a slut. After sleeping with so many people, you probably think you’re noble despite the way paved in green lights?" William cursed Sharon in front of the Priest, using language most foul.

Slap...

A heavy slap landed on William’s face.

It was the Priest who struck him.

"How presumptuous. I had no idea you were such an impolite person. Excuse me."

The Priest had served the Dragon Lord all his life, had no children of his own, and had never seen someone as clever and nimble as Sharon, treating her like a daughter. This time, he had come to discuss with William the trial operation of loading passengers on trains, and it was necessary to inscribe the Dragon Lord’s emblem inside all carriages, as the Dragon Lord was the one who guided this era’s transformation. He hadn’t expected such an incident to happen.

"I will go back and report to the bishop. If you can’t come up with a sincere apology, don’t even think about operating the railways."

""

The priest left after dropping those words, at least fifty thousand Golden Dragons would need to come forth as an apology.

Even the Emperor had to give the Pope some respect, so it was uncertain what this person amounted to.

Sharon was acutely aware that William was truly a fool, unable to distinguish between importance and triviality, mixing up contexts without understanding that he was far from the real enemy. He was just a clown pushed to the forefront, and she only worried that there might be other former classmates serving that magician in hiding.

William had studied advanced theoretical physics, but his practical application fell significantly short – he was just someone who could solve problems on paper, with others devising strategies for him.

"You were the stupidest in school and indeed, it shows."

Sharon left without looking back after leaving those words behind.

Leaving behind William, who was fuming with rage, because even as a traitor, he turned out to be the most useless one.

Sharon and the priest returned to the local church.

The priest, having received a report from the Imperial City headquarters, was trembling, even in his fingers.

"What happened?"

Sharon asked with concern.

"The Dragon Lord has manifested! A believer who was sent to a Foreign Country, after being forsaken and left for dead, returned alive, and even reverted to a youthful appearance of twenty years old! In my lifetime, I never imagined I could witness such a miracle! I must return to the Imperial City immediately; I wish to attend the ceremony!"

The priest’s eyes brimmed with hot tears.

Sharon’s eyes widened with disbelief. Although there had been so-called manifestations before, they were only weak signals, simple tricks that anyone could pull off. But to think it was real... the Dragon Lord?

The next day, approaching noon.

The SS Fuma Keqing Revenge was close to the supply procurement stop.

Mika was at the bow, having a man-to-man, one-on-one with Liszt, both of them smoking, in a mad showdown.

"Are you worthy?"

"Are you worthy?"

"Are you worthy?"

The two had been repeating this for at least a hundred times, debating over the right to bed Goria.

Fen was dumbfounded, witnessing what she considered a Bloodborne DLC – Abstract Chaos.

"Marcus is outrageously strong; he couldn’t possibly have a motherf***ing third phase, could he?"

Rein casually said on the side.

"Can you shut it with the doom talk, for heaven’s sake? We’re about to land."

Liszt wanted to smack someone.

The outline of land was now visible in the distance, surrounded by other ships.

The transition station.

Kersuna Island.

Located in the northeastern part of the Southern Continent, it guarded a crucial passage and was also a fairly bustling city.

The route from Londen City to Heaven Port was U-shaped, and this midway island was often where Liszt made his stopover.

Liszt had never committed any crimes on Yisu people’s territory; even a rabbit knows not to nibble the grass by its burrow.

The Black Sail could safely moor at the island’s official harbor.

And although this world had the concepts of "United Nations" and "International Police," known as the Cross Alliance, that was all they were in essence.

In theory, some international disputes or influential transnational crime syndicates should be adjudicated under the Cross Alliance, which functioned like the County Government.

But those in the know understood that serious cases must go through Aran’s peak authorities, which was where the real council lay.

Of course, that’s not to say the Cross Alliance was utterly useless; they were, but only slightly. They could indeed mediate small-country disputes, but as for catching transnational crime syndicates, half their energy and resources were drained by the bottomless pit known as the Thief Guild.

The Cross Alliance did have a dedicated pirate task force, but it was just a title to show they had added this Skill Point. The actual apprehension of pirates still depended on the local Admiral.

There was a difference between land and sea; once beyond the Western Continent, nobody cared about the Cross Alliance.

The East Sea Stage — if you value your life, you come. If not, it’s even more thrilling; killing is truly liberating.
