Black Sail -
Chapter 502: CXXXI. Mystery
Chapter 502: CXXXI. Mystery
Three days later.
The Black Sail Army advancing towards Drifting City had already reached the midsection of Mulong. As they went further, the vegetation within the precipitation line became increasingly lush and verdant.
Mulong was even larger than Beima, but the usable land was much less. The desolate areas were home to only scattered tribes, and the Boneyard was devoid of any signs of life.
The Royal Capital and Black Rock City were located in fertile lands, and Drifting City was adjacent to a natural inland canal leading directly to the Narrow Sea. This made it the second largest slave trade center in the world in the past and a strategic military location.
While the Kelor Highlands were the final bastions, if Aran could take it down, it would signal the end of the security campaign. Either the Resistance Army would launch a desperate counterattack, or they would fade away with a whimper.
General Fen ordered everyone to rest for an hour before continuing the march. This lush and boundless green field was a natural pasture, saving some fodder.
Of course, the scouting party on duty was not allowed to rest.
Liszt was worried. The people sent to find Mika had not returned yet. Could it be that he was dismembered by Santilla for being disrespectful to the Princess?
But Mika had always been very respectful to women and never messed around with prostitutes.
Perhaps he had become addicted to being a Knight.
"What’s causing the commotion over there?"
Liszt asked Shadi, who had just wandered over, somewhat puzzled. It seemed like Fen was over there, and Fen never argued with anyone. Even when someone provocatively insulted her, she would just ignore them. Why was she arguing with a dessert lover who couldn’t be deterred even with twenty pounds of insulin?
It was Celeste scolding her subordinates.
"General Fen seems to have become the third wheel."
Shadi came over to share the gossip with Liszt.
The Black Sail troops were all straight men. The only woman in the army was Celeste, the East Sea Commissioner. But Celeste had a small team of about twenty people under her. When Losra sent supplies a few days ago, they also sent eight people to intern with Celeste, completing tasks that Shadi did not understand, like geological surveys and mapping.
It seemed Losra wanted to reevaluate Mulong to see if there were any magic energy veins or precious resources to plan future strategies.
Half of these high-achieving interns were young women.
"Wow! What’s going on?"
"A female intern under Celeste has a crush on General Fen. She follows him around every day, asking all sorts of questions. But she’s quite innocent and pretty. A male intern, likely with a crush on her, started discussing academic topics with Fen, probably to prove he’s better than Fen."
"Oh... just that?"
Liszt was speechless. He thought it was more juicy gossip. Given Fen’s looks and education, it’s normal for some sapiosexuals to find him charming like an Enchanting Demon.
Apparently, Fen was now attracting attention, and the Magic Energy Industrial Committee and Tower Alliance should have started hunting him down. Those organizations were not afraid of the Black Sail.
But so far, no one had asked for his surrender. Damn it, Fen was just a pretty boy. Maybe it had something to do with the Peidan Princess or the Emperor’s niece.
That female intern really picked the wrong person. Damn it, didn’t she know Ivy was better than that Peidan National?
"No, that male intern was rendered speechless by Fen. Rein added fuel to the fire, saying that graduates from Peidan National were just superior. Not only did Fen play with women from Losra Institute of Technology, but he also beat its men. How dare someone from such a school talk back? The male intern snapped and started cursing, leading to a shouting match with Rein, who of course won. Then Celeste scolded him."
Shadi found it very amusing.
Liszt was stunned. Qinghua was often called a little Peidan National.
"Rein should treat Celeste’s subordinates better. Those interns are definitely talented. If they find something, it would be a blessing for us too."
Liszt sneered.
Shadi picked up on some hints. This guy wasn’t just planning to drag things out until the end of the year; he was preparing for something big. If Liszt decided something, Shadi would definitely support it.
The future looked bright: big moves, bold moves, exceptional moves—everything was there.
If this exceptional move succeeded.
He dared not imagine; the next would be a Rashomon-level operation, a great fire in the capital, the Fierce Tiger crossing the river, an ascension ceremony.
"By the way! I just remembered something. Where’s Archer?"
Liszt suddenly remembered his old flame from eight years ago. Isis was also a Ji Weng. She had heard rumors about Mr. Archer. He had to get to the bottom of it today.
"He should be in the logistics truck with the beer."
"Let’s go check immediately! Archer... He’s an ogre, a Ji Weng noble. Who knows if it’s true."
"Huh?"
Shadi was stunned for a moment.
The two rushed to the logistics team and found the truck loaded with beer. Sure enough, Archer was sleeping soundly amid the beer, drooling and snoring due to his liver metabolism.
Shadi slapped Archer twice on the face but couldn’t wake him up.
"Did he enter the Main God Space?"
Shadi was shocked.
Liszt was not discouraged. He fumbled around Archer’s elbow joint, pressing against his numb spot.
Shadi gave a thumbs-up, impressed with the Captain’s methods.
"Still not waking up? This is beyond the Main God Space. Archer signed a reincarnation contract, entering various worlds to complete missions. He witnessed a world crumble to dust and fought forgotten kings..."
Liszt was at a loss for words.
"Two-dimensional Zheng Zha?"
Shadi was stunned.
Seeing the commotion, Morison and Wolman, who were sparring nearby, came over.
Having heard Shadi’s explosive revelation, both were dumbfounded.
The four of them wasted no words and dragged Archer out of the truck.
Wolman then brought over a large pot, filled it with water, started a fire, and began to boil Archer.
The four of them gathered around the pot, chatting like literati. "I’m starting now, Amitabha ma ma da, Little Sick Hut."
"Hopefully, he’ll wake up before it starts boiling."
"If not, we’ll have to taste Mr. Archer."
"If that’s true, he might have added some special ingredients over the years."
"Damn it, the Black Sail is full of ogres."
All four had grim expressions, but Liszt fanned the burning wood to make the fire stronger.
The pirates watching outside were confused, but the officers were indeed capable of things they couldn’t even imagine. Archer had often flaunted his privileges to show off his authority, so naturally, he was disliked by many.
Finally, the water was about to boil, bubbles forming at the bottom of the pot.
Archer suddenly woke up.
"Damn! Damn it!"
Archer yelled and finally came to his senses, jumping out of the pot and knocking it over. The four surrounding him had tactical black faces.
The atmosphere was off, and he was completely sober.
"Sorry, but I need you to stay clear-headed. You can drink after answering our questions. While your alcohol withdrawal symptoms haven’t kicked in, we need to ask you something."
Liszt sat on a small stool, hands clasped under his chin.
"I’m not gay, I’m just a bit ED from drinking too much! Big Ben is number one."
Archer thought he was being judged for being gay. In Western Continent’s folk culture, being gay was unforgivable.
"Who the hell asked you about that?"
Shadi held his head in his hands, wondering if they could really get anything useful out of this chaotic individual. Also, what the hell was Big Ben? How low was his intelligence?
"Here’s the thing. I met a Ji Weng noble who had heard rumors that one of the palace chefs, you, Archer, is an ogre. That’s why the Ji Weng Holy Spirit Sect’s Demon Hunters are after you. We want to understand what’s going on."
Liszt asked calmly.
"Is there a new version of the rumor? It used to be a copper refining addiction."
Archer scratched his head, noting how those people’s narratives kept changing.
"Uh, this..."
Wolman was astonished that Archer was so versatile in both civil and military matters. Eating, drinking, and all the desires of life—he indulged them all. He was clearly the most perverted person in the Western Continent.
Even scarier than Sun Xiaochuan entering the bear circle! White socks Christmas tree! I don’t want to see this!
"Obviously, these are all fabricated."
Archer was speechless. How could these guys believe everything?
"Then what’s the truth? Why are the Demon Hunters after you?"
Morison was extremely curious about what had produced someone like Archer.
