Chapter 46: XLVI. Heaven Port Million Questions and Answers
The Constitutional Captain could never have imagined that he would be subjected to such severe torture by pirates.
"I’ve told you I would confess everything, let me finish!"
The Constitutional Captain was bound with hemp ropes to a large wooden board, which was laid flat by being propped up on two benches. His limbs and torso were tightly tied, but his head could only lift about five or six centimeters.
"We are honest people, afraid of being deceived."
Rein grinned malevolently, activating his Torture King attribute, and asked Haywood to bring him a carpenter’s hammer and large nails.
To ensure security, Fen needed to confirm that the captain was telling the truth, so he let Rein run wild.
A large group of pirates on the deck felt their scalps tingle at the sight of Rein’s actions.
"The Boatswain really plays nasty."
A green-skinned Beastman pirate whispered, drinking with a few friends on the ship and observing their superior’s techniques.
The Constitutional Captain screamed on the wooden board as Rein drove the nails from under the board to the area between his neck and the back of his head.
Bang, bang, bang...
The sharp nails were driven five centimeters in. He had to continuously use his neck muscles to keep his head raised. Otherwise, even a slight touch of the nail could be explosive.
Mika, having nothing better to do, also came to watch the show. He scoffed, still the same old three tricks: teeth with lemon, wooden boards and nails, stuffy bedding. So much for the merciful healer. He found it boring and lacking novelty. He left to read a book.
"You see, this isn’t difficult. The challenge is to endure for three hours, five hours. The current record stands at seventeen hours. So, my friend, can you become a true hero?"
Rein looked at the Constitutional Captain, who kept his head about six centimeters from the board, and spoke calmly.
Wolman was also there, watching with interest. This soldier, nearly in his forties, might have once invaded Beima Duchy or the Great Wetland.
"Starting now, Heaven Port’s Million Questions Winter Special Event! For every correct answer, you’ll get one hour of relief. Listen to the question. What is the bust measurement of the famous Minstrel, Qili? You have ten seconds to answer."
Rein began the program in all seriousness, as his hammer struck the wooden board creating a loud clanking sound.
Fen was done with this nonsense; important matters were at stake.
"The Constitutional Soldiers have already searched this place. They’ve noticed someone missing from their base and will definitely come to check. It’s a matter of time. Later is better than sooner. But now, the person they’re looking for isn’t on our ship. This isn’t Aran, it’s East Shore. The local snakes won’t scare even if we kill these twenty men, but they certainly won’t risk a tough fight. However, they will surely send more people to watch this place. Caroso and his crew will come eventually. The captain has been gone two days, they should arrive soon. Everyone be ready to act as planned."
Fen spoke calmly. Even if they didn’t kill these twenty men now, just a few tattered boats and a ship moored here would surely attract attention. Killing them sooner would save trouble and prevent communication issues later.
"You must be a small leader, now I want to ask you about your strategies, major figures, your highest commanders, and those in charge of speaking and managing, along with their characteristics, backgrounds, and skills."
Fen interrogated him. City-based information brokers couldn’t get access to such details; it had to come from this man.
"Good. Very clear thinking."
Archer knew something big was brewing these past days. He hadn’t drunk any alcohol but started acting knowledgeable.
"Rest up, big brother."
Rein was impressed.
With the torture Rein inflicted, though still not painful, the psychological pressure was certainly skyrocketing.
The Constitutional Captain spared no detail.
Zahak, holding the coast, born into a prominent family, once studied swordsmanship with Aran Sword King, boasted remarkable combat skills, destroyed several Cult bases within Aran, earning his merits. His political prowess earned him a General’s rank in the military.
There was also a two-meter-five Leopard Man who secured second place in one of the Imperial Arena contests. Extremely strong with astonishing combat skills, proficient with a Special Large Blade, terrifyingly capable, and serving as an Officer.
Another was a Yisu woman, also an Officer, close to Zahak’s confidence, with undisclosed strength.
Most importantly, a Priest named Marcus, because of his negligence in military orders, the task of searching the secret port had unfortunately fallen on the hapless Constitutional Captain.
Besides these people here.
There was also a group vigorously pursuing Caroso and others, including a General and an Officer, leading hundreds of troops.
After listening to the Constitutional Captain’s words,
Fen judged that it was true, it was impossible for ordinary people to fabricate such a detailed setup under such short time and high psychological pressure. These people could withstand scrutiny and were trusted with important tasks by the upper echelons of Aran, especially the so-called Marcus, the guardian of the mysterious man from the Holy Spirit Church, which certainly involved the conflict with the Holy Spirit Sect.
"Fuck, we’re screwed, completely blocked off."
Rein gasped in shock. This was more than just a big task; no wonder Earl was willing to give 1,200 Golden Dragons and a privateer certificate so readily. It was dragging them into a huge mess.
"Brother Sha... what do you say?"
Archer was no longer stubborn, urging the invincible Brother Sha to think of a solution.
"I’ll try and meet this so-called disciple of the Sword King."
Morison said nonchalantly.
"That’s settled then." Rein nodded, beginning to explain his reasoning, "If Brother Sha says it’s tricky, it means we’ll have some fun beating them; if he says it’s barely manageable, it means a massacre; and this ’I’ll try,’ well, Zahak, it’s a matter of one strike."
"Thanks a lot."
Morison was speechless. You’re popping champagne mid-game, aren’t you setting me up? The disciple of the Sword King still had some reputation.
"The million questions at Heaven Port are over, do you have... any last words?"
Rein looked at the Constitutional Captain on the wooden board, ready to offer some last rites.
"I’ve told you everything I know, I won’t go back, I can join you!"
The Constitutional Captain’s neck was starting to ache, seventeen hours? Truly a tough guy.
Rein feigned sadness, "My friend, I really want to help you, but this gentleman here, he disagrees."
Wolman slowly stepped forward.
"Uncle me..."
Crack!
A clean cut at the waist, then he ordered a few sailors to improve the food for the fish in the water.
Fen’s gaze shifted to the sky outside the cave, it was almost time for the appointment, and the raven hadn’t returned yet, nor did he know how things were on Liszt’s side.
It was essential for Liszt to receive the person; otherwise, their actions here would be extremely passive.
On another front,
sixty li northwest of Lavender Town,
Liszt, Shadi, Swan, and Claude, spurred their horses, stirring up dust on the forest road.
"This is really killing me."
Liszt understood it wasn’t just a simple matter of picking up and leaving; there definitely would be ambushes, but he never expected a rescue mission, meaning they had to face an Aran Constitutional General, an Officer, and hundreds of elite troops.
Truly a life or death mission.
"Why isn’t it Goria breaking out, but you, old Lao Deng?"
Liszt was speechless.
The pursuers’ vanguard had already caught up with the three, and amidst the melee, Caroso had killed over thirty men and broke through, getting separated from the other two. Goria, with the mysterious person, was eighty li away at Wind Breath Canyon, holding off pursuers.
Caroso, like the Wandering Swordsman, dressed in a ragged gray cloak with a great sword, shoulder-length curly hair, a short beard, and a sinister face, knew well that going back would mean certain death. He had to seek reinforcements; Goria was exceptional, and the master was not to be underestimated either, they could hold on for a while by escaping and maneuvering.
"Should we open the box?"
Swan was slightly tense; he had always operated in stealth and assassination, completely in control; he had never confronted such chaos before.
"No, we absolutely cannot open it before we rescue them."
Liszt’s eyes were icy, all their plans depending on receiving the people in Lavender Town. Opening it now would ruin everything.
It appeared the final reward for this mission was the privateer certificate, but it was not so simple; given such a commotion, Liszt was starting to have other ideas, between the privateer certificate and the mysterious person, it was a choice to be made.
