Chapter 255: CCLV. Opening
Doringger naturally sent people to welcome these distinguished guests.
Such a banquet was still hosted by pirates.
Killing and profiteering, not merely inviting guests for a meal.
Doringger intended these individuals to pay up and invest.
From the east coast of the Beima Duchy to Heaven Port, the shipping route broadly formed a U-shape with a slightly gentle arc.
The New Continent was situated outside to the right of this U-shape.
Heaven Port was like the highway toll station to the New Continent, if you wanted to pass through, you had to pay me, not to mention the strategic location, the distance was relatively short. Sure, you could go from other places, but you’d have to carefully consider whether someone might mess with you.
However, given his status, he wouldn’t be so tasteless. This wasn’t highway robbery—it was cooperation for mutual benefit, to grow stronger together and develop sustainably.
The investments were for establishing local subsidiaries and outposts, after a solid beginning, a larger foundation would attract more Gold Seekers, creating an economic cycle.
Tonight, Doringger planned to play a game of lifting the sedan chair with ghosts—he’d arrange for a few shell companies to invest first, stirring up the atmosphere, then draw the others in as well.
Given the essential needs of the New Continent, people would invest without any tricks, but Doringger, who liked to win on all fronts, always aimed for the best.
One of his confidants, a buzz-cut man who had once been a Heroic Level adventurer, was responsible for ushering in the guests.
He noticed Liszt, who was not quite catching on, and getting carried away with fear-mongering; all were guests here, how could you allow intimidation? He glanced at the guest list, as well as Brenda by his side.
The buzz-cut man approached Liszt with a smile.
"No need to worry, brother from Reggae Defense. In the East Sea, our boss’s word is law. Broadly speaking, all pirates are under his command too, why would they harm their own? Besides, even if they don’t have the guts, and many of the uneducated brutes are confused and come in to drink, if you scrape your skin a little, I’ll bow my head in apology."
The buzz-cut man was also dressed in fine clothes, and with a stretch of his hand, he pointed towards the security team—all well-equipped heavy infantry, holding Magic Energy Weapons and heavy axes produced by unknown arms companies.
Brenda was embarrassed. The very people you’re guarding against are right before your eyes.
"Is that so? Now I feel reassured, but it’s always good to be cautious, this place is way too chaotic, we have to be on guard. Doringger, Lord Dor, should also be careful."
Liszt was speechless. Goddamn uncultured, do you understand what Ivy is, looking so foolish.
"Boss, let’s go,"
Fen said to Brenda that it was time to enter. Soon they’d cause some trouble, reveal their masks, and do some vicious deeds; Ben and Swan would also make a scene, and afterward, Liszt had prepared a big move.
Morison smirked. The secret weapon would certainly surprise Doringger.
Brenda nodded, everything was over.
Each group of people was assigned a specific attendant to guide the way, and Reggae Defense was no exception.
Shadi, well versed in such matters, briefed Liszt and the others on who the guests for the evening were—of course, some were not up to par, but many were business tycoons.
Even some shipping companies had shown up, but most had come from the Narrow Sea and the North Sea; the East Sea folks knew what sort of character Doringger was, and almost none came for fear of being completely devoured by Doringger. Only a few who bore no grudge and played big were present.
Although Doringger was the Boss of Heaven Port, his reputation, while not great, wasn’t terrible in the outside world. The infamy belonged to Heaven Port—not my concern. I’m just a straightforward businessman with a plot of land in Heaven Port, harmless to humans and animals, that’s all.
It wasn’t just companies from the Western Continent and Southern Continent but also merchants from the Far East Islands who had arrived. Their thoughts were much simpler: pay the protection fees, make sure the road is clear, and you’re good to go.
Walking through the newly erected corridors, Liszt stepped on the fur beneath his boots, feeling quite comfortable. It was his first visit inside the castle, and oh boy, the estate of the Count of Londen was already noble and opulent, but this place’s level exceeded several more, like the damn abode of royal relatives.
The landscaped gardens were exceptionally tasteful, free from vulgarity, with evergreen topiaries shaped into auspicious creatures, the most significant feature being their openness, seemingly endless at a glance.
Various decorative flowers, treated specially, bloomed even in the harshest cold, and despite being near the sea, there were also large artificial lakes with boats docked atop, likely for leisurely fishing and entertainment.
The rest of the buildings were equally grand, after all, they were built by an Emperor—High Towers soared, keep towers were solemn, all coated in white, and during the New Year period, Doringger also added decorations, hanging red vertical banners with the Holy Spirit Seal.
Liszt’s jealousy twisted his face. This was just a corner of the castle, such a vast place occupied by dogs—it had to return to its rightful owner, for me to reside in.
This necessitated killing Doringger.
The other corporate representatives who came to the banquet were also surprised, not expecting to find such a wonder in the remote corner of the East Sea.
Fen felt nothing special; after all, he had been to the Pedan Royal Court.
Following the built corridors, they entered the main entrance of a keep tower—here lay the banquet hall.
The tailcoat had already been seamlessly welded to his back.
Boss was all about making an impression, the band was playing, and a fairly well-known second-tier minstrel, along with her band, had been brought in. The intertwining orchestral music, light as feathers drifting onto shoulders, swept away the fatigue with its comfortable ambient sound.
A so-called banquet wasn’t just a bunch of people getting together to eat or sitting in rows to listen to you talk. It wasn’t like they were acknowledging you as the Big Brother, all serious and business-like.
Like all banquets, it was divided into three segments.
The food was buffet-style, take whatever you want, and interact with other guests. That was the first stage.
The second stage was when the host made an entrance, spoke some words, made toasts, and discussed serious matters.
The third stage was when the dance floor opened. With spirits high from the alcohol and in step with the music, you could get happy dancing and maybe find someone to head upstairs with for some fun.
"Tsk..."
Liszt was incredibly envious, his tongue pushing against his cheek. This one hall was broader than all the floors of the Black Sail Inn combined, the high-quality wooden wall panels reaching to the ceiling and full of carvings, the light from the crystal chandeliers gently cascading down, with the floor laid in an intricate parquetry. The male and female attendants moving within were impeccably presented.
The food was self-service, mainly consisting of barbecue and pastries.
Morison was already showing off. Though cutlery was provided, he preferred to use his hands, grabbing a rib and finishing it off in seconds, wiping his mouth with his suit sleeve.
"Uh..."
Fen didn’t know what to say. Some things simply couldn’t be faked—after all, his crew were pirates.
Even though it was a high-profile event, they were all tough as nails at heart; Wen Kui got into the act too, his manner equally hearty.
This certainly drew some sidelong glances, with a few women covering their mouths and giggling softly.
Brenda still had that impassive Sima’s face, and it looked like Reggae Defense’s reputation would be totally shot by the end of the day.
Fen surveyed the venue for anything special and found a display case covered with a red cloth in a corner.
His eyes narrowed thoughtfully. If he wasn’t mistaken, that case might contain some objects from the New Continent, perhaps later the Iron Soul Pirate Group would be invited to speak about the New Continent, tempting all the guests with tantalizing prospects.
Qi Li was the serious sort, always alert for any commotion. He spotted the three top fence lords of the islands, who had evidently also been invited.
Taylor, of course, was present.
Feeling the gaze upon her, Tani looked back over her shoulder. Among this throng of disguised strangers, some faces seemed oddly familiar.
"I’ll be right back,"
Tani said to Taylor.
Taylor didn’t think much of it, just nodded and carried on discussing important matters with the other two big shots.
Tani jogged over.
"How did you get here?"
Worry shone in her eyes as she seemingly approached Brenda, but in reality, she was communicating with Liszt.
Huh?
Liszt was shocked. How did you know it was me?
"Who are you?"
Liszt played dumb.
Fen shook his head at him, indicating his disguise was still flawless.
"When you’re a bit upset or annoyed, you do this."
Tani mimicked Liszt, pushing her tongue against the side of her face, and she was also all too familiar with Liszt’s physique.
"No way, sis, you can recognize me like that?"
Liszt was baffled.
Shadi was close to spitting blood. What kind of spell did you cast on them?
