Chapter 247: CCXLVII. I Will Run for Election
On the first day of the new year, it was inappropriate to go to someone else’s house for a meal. In developed areas, this sentiment might be lighter, but in regions with poor grain harvests and backward livestock, people would see you as a freeloader.
However, the Black Sail Group didn’t care about such things and had Tani stay for lunch.
Tani, of course, also hinted at inviting Liszt over, and Liszt knew he couldn’t delay any longer. He had to finish all the preparations before tomorrow night’s banquet.
Shadi was in charge of talks with his former arms company, Reggae Defense, suggesting that the company send representatives or bosses with a few "attendants" to the event, while Morison also went along to apply pressure and temptations—it was vital that they succeed.
It was finally Shadi’s turn to show off. The me of the past you ignored, the me of today you cannot reach. Thirty years on the east bank of the river, thirty years on the west, never underestimate a young man’s poverty. The dazzling lights and colors of nightlife intoxicate, the fiery rage of Buddha blooms in society.
It was as if he had overdrawn his Emperor Qin Shi Huang card, winning until the scales fell off the walls.
He also asked Mika to inform Qi Li and Wen Kui to attend the banquet tomorrow night; otherwise, with the current high returns from protection fees, if they let it slip away, both would suffer great losses. They had to stand on the same front.
The others shouldn’t idle away either; news was released that the Black Sail Alliance had decided to protect the trade routes of Heaven Port and the New Continent. From now on, this sea route could be secured by Black Sail.
Heaven Port and the surrounding areas like the Narrow Sea Golden Waters and the North Sea might become quite chaotic with pirates from other regions likely to come and cause trouble. They needed strong backers.
This was essentially marking territory.
In the inner and outer parts of the city, they investigated who was in charge.
First, they needed to test Doringger to see his reaction.
Liszt had originally planned to go to Beima Xiaochaijin to become a member and get an annual pass. Now, seeing the explosive militarization of the Beima Duchy like mad dogs desperately needing power expansion, he regretted that he might issue privateer certificates this fall. If he had gotten it earlier, with his own means, there might have been no chance to formally become part of the navy’s structure. It was a pity.
Fafna, although growing rapidly, needed to put in more effort. Liszt had bet all his hopes on her to dominate and vigorously stir the Western Continent.
After lunch.
Including Rein Mika, the core members all tactically frowned. Liszt was too inconsiderate—a wonderful girl threw herself at him, and he was still playing hard to get. They truly wanted to slap him.
Tani served soup for Liszt and even offered to feed him. She ate daintily herself, had carefully designed her dining manners, and was strictly observant of the etiquette.
Even the former officials, Fen and Mika, couldn’t pick any faults with her—a true lady through and through.
Only a woman would know how intense the competition was. Yutong realized that if this girl wasn’t dealt with now, she would pose a significant threat by overtaking them on the curve.
"So, it’s almost time. Let’s visit Taylor."
Liszt also took a bottle of wine worth about eight copper coins from the inn’s bar, as a New Year’s gift.
Fen wanted to check out the situation; this collaboration was a bit more significant than Qi Li and Wen Kui’s, absolutely no mistakes could afford to be made. He had to keep an eye on Liszt to prevent any foul-ups.
"I’ll go have a seat too."
Archer had nothing else to do.
"You better rest, the inn needs you!"
Liszt patted his shoulder. If you go, who knows if Taylor might decide to annihilate the Black Sail Group during talks.
Yet he still took some willing core members, showing considerable regard for this discussion.
Half an hour later.
Liszt and his team had departed.
Wolman saw Fafna, who might have been eating too well these days, wanting to eat whatever she saw.
When Morison left, he forgot to take the Red Crystal and left it on the table—a shocking level of carelessness as it was worth two hundred Golden Dragons.
Some might call Fafna foolish as she knew to wash the Red Crystal in the sink before trying to eat it. But then, could that thing even be eaten?
Wolman couldn’t stop her in time; Fafna swallowed it, her teeth crisply crunching before it went down into her stomach.
"Damn it."
Wolman’s mind went blank.
"Hee-hee."
Fafna, still dressed in her adorable Leon More’s stitched-up outfit, toted the Special Large Sword on her shoulder.
Wolman was dumbfounded.
According to Fen, this Red Crystal was a rather rare type of Demon Crystal. A single one could power a magic-powered mechanical crane for a month. What kind of amount was that?
This time, Wolman was really scared.
"Put your finger in your mouth, dig at your throat, and spit it out."
Wolman was genuinely afraid that the girl would just die on the spot. Damn, why were there no good things on January 1st?
"Ah, it’s delicious, life is just for eating, sleeping, and playing, I ate it all, I just eat eat eat eat eat, haha."
Fafna said carelessly.
Wolman thought he had to quickly find Fen, or maybe Dreya, as they were the only two who knew some magic; the others might not handle it well.
"It seems like she is... a Dragon?"
Mo Yutong blinked, having heard Liszt mention it, but apart from her monstrous power, she didn’t seem like a Dragon.
"No time left, you keep an eye on this place, I’ll take her to find Fen."
Wolman’s nictitating membrane flickered in his eyes, somewhat panicked.
Unexpectedly,
Fafna was fine and even said she suddenly felt much stronger physically, many times stronger than she had been for the past few months combined. A power was filling her limbs and body; she had to find a place to test it.
Wolman: "???"
Taking Fafna to the hotel’s rooftop, Fafna extended her hand towards the sky, and Ice Element Magic began to release.
It was the most basic Frost Descent Technique, typically used to slow down enemies by spreading frost.
But now,
A surge of elemental power erupted from the Array Seal in Fafna’s hand and scattered countless snowflakes towards the sky. Several streets around began to see extremely crystalline snowflakes fall.
Unlike ordinary snow, these were finely detailed ice crystals, shining and twinkling as if the streets were sparkling.
"Wow... it’s so beautiful."
Fafna spun around, also worried about using too much power and causing large-scale destruction, harming so many "good people" on the island.
Wolman’s throat rolled.
He believed that he finally knew how to make Fafna grow quickly, just by stacking Golden Dragons into her, and soon... it could be sky-covering; it should be like that, right?
Meanwhile,
There was a festive atmosphere in Taylor’s estate, but it was not very strong. Festive lights and flags were hung casually, but all the lawns were meticulously trimmed, making the whole estate look brand new.
A group of people arrived at Taylor’s office.
Wearing a pirate’s eyepatch, Taylor managed to keep a composed face, secretly heaving a sigh of relief. He had been waiting eagerly, finally managing to see his good son-in-law.
"Wow, this estate is really magnificent, damn."
Rein was amazed all the way, having never been here before. He found it very novel that Heaven Port, such a shabby place, had this kind of boundary. If Taylor’s was like this, what would Doringger’s be like? Sooner or later, he’d live in a castle, those singers at Doringger were quite a joke.
With Taylor’s signal, everyone took their seats and instructed the servant to serve tea.
Tani realized that it was inappropriate for her to stay in this setting and tactfully left.
"Liszt... Mr. Li, you said it was a great success. Can you disclose the specific numbers?"
Taylor was quite interested.
Liszt had now been promoted to Mr. Li.
He pondered for a moment, still needing to retain some information.
"Let’s say this, it’s enough to completely overthrow Doringger. Now, I’m not holding back anymore, I want to establish a new! Heaven Port! I will absolutely run for election."
