Chapter 238: CCXXXVIII. Strategy
Liszt was surprised to find that Dreya was not in the castle.
She had intended to pick out New Year’s gifts yesterday but had to postpone it to today.
Meredith was also accompanying her.
The maids in the castle had grown accustomed to the complex relationships within, having read in some books about the Blood Clan that male vampires were utterly normal, given that the blood of female virgins was exceptionally fragrant.
However, female vampires were a bit different and often developed neodymium copper afterward.
Only Mo Yutong remained in the castle.
Although Mo Yutong had spent some time with the Cult, whose members were madmen but not uneducated, the atmosphere elsewhere on the island made her extremely uncomfortable; it was too chaotic. Having been a top student, she couldn’t stand such places and was always highly cautious, afraid of being assaulted by pirates if she wasn’t careful.
She had no doubt about the ferocity of Liszt and his group, having witnessed them rob a train and kill people herself. Even two fellow students had fallen victim, one crushed into meat soup by Liszt and the other’s face hacked with an axe.
After settling in the castle, she hadn’t taken a single step outside. Everything she needed was here, and the servants would purchase food and all sorts of living supplies.
Mo Yutong was reading Dreya’s collection of books in the study, a variety so vast and numerous that she could read for years.
She could stay holed up here for a year without leaving.
Clutching a copy of "Narrow Sea Chronicles," she found it quite interesting. It narrated the legendary stories of pirates vying for supremacy in the Inner Sea Golden Waters one hundred and ten years ago, as well as how the ideology of the "Pirate Bill" subtly influenced society, representing ultimate freedom and democracy, albeit with stringent conditions and limited to lawless waters.
Back then, many shipping routes were still uncharted, and pirates could be said to be the most adventurous and brave professionals.
Now, well, heh.
Yet at this moment, she noticed an uninvited guest.
Liszt’s eyes narrowed as he saw Mo Yutong not only wearing his wife’s purple robe but also sitting on her favorite duchess-style sofa.
Four years ago, when Liszt had broken in to rob the place, it was here that he had seen Dreya reading.
"How come you’re wearing someone else’s clothes and using their stuff?"
Liszt feared the sudden onset of background music, incapable of distinguishing love from hate; he could only react this way.
Mo Yutong closed the book, feeling a bit puzzled. After all, there were supposed to be two burly men guarding the door, and it was not possible for outsiders to enter—Dreya had told her that those men could punch through walls with their fists.
It was quite odd; this man was quite stylish and, inexplicably, bore a strong resemblance to Liszt, though he was more pleasing to the eye upon close inspection.
His voice was very familiar. After thinking it over...
Wasn’t this the nutjob from school? Except he had matured quite a bit and grown a half-inch beard.
"Do you have a problem with that?"
Now that she had Dreya’s backing, Mo Yutong had officially gone from someone captured by Liszt to someone with the status to speak to him as an equal. The classmates who had been transferred to Pedan were now able to communicate well too.
Hm?
Liszt was stunned for a moment. How had this woman become so daring? Wait until tomorrow night and see if she’ll still be so audacious when he brought her up to seventy decibels.
Before discussing formal work, it might be better to talk about the events of the following night.
"Little sister, I heard about you back when I was at school."
Liszt stood behind Mo Yutong and had already started massaging her shoulders.
Of course, Mu Ran was the top genius at school. Mo Yutong was slightly less so but still part of the first tier, not comparable with someone of mediocre level like himself.
"What are you doing here..."
The touch on her shoulders made Mo Yutong a bit uncomfortable.
"Did Dreya tell you anything about tomorrow night?"
Liszt couldn’t even dare to think—it was too extravagant, wasn’t it?
"Huh?"
Mo Yutong did not understand what Liszt was talking about.
Liszt played the tough guy, shocked. Apparently, Dreya hadn’t used any tactics at all, just verbal promises? He was counting on her helping him conquer directly and get ready-made results.
Meredith had conducted experiments for her; maybe there was a one to twenty percent approval rating. But the other two were absolutely zero.
Could he win them over in a day?
Liszt was somewhat desperate. If it were straight women, it would have been simpler. He could have used his financial prowess and material conditions to win them over; not just one or two, but twenty could be handled.
But what to do with someone who was gay?
"Sigh..."
Liszt let out a long breath and sat down in the main seat of the sofa next to Mo Yutong, convinced that a stroke of genius would solve everything!
Women were different from men.
They could agree for reasons beyond just desire and emotion.
It was still the same two tactics.
First was to play the victim. Under the guise of having a heart-to-heart as fellow countrymen, Liszt began pouring out his hardships. Apart from the first three years, he recounted all the frustrations he had faced. Of course, just playing the victim wouldn’t cut it.
Playing the victim plus acting the Tough Guy, that’s got some potential, right?
Now that his status had improved, he just waited to be harvested.
Ten minutes later.
Mo Yutong was utterly unimpressed, even nearly bursting into laughter.
"You’re trying to PUA me, right?"
Mo Yutong had seen these tricks all the time at school, especially when executed by the notoriously bad Ultimate Scumbag Liszt, a person of note—who wouldn’t know him? She had heard that even a few models had fallen for his ploys.
Liszt got angry. What a tough nut to crack.
"Girl, you know that Dreya is my wife, right?"
"Of course, I know. What about it?"
"Hey! You’re the other woman, damn it. Don’t you feel even a slightest bit sorry?"
Liszt put on a distressed look, one hand clutching his hair as if in utter agony.
Mo Yutong gulped, now sitting up attentively. She indeed heard about some of last night’s events. Those two seemed to be truly in love.
"I’m...sorry."
"Is ’sorry’ of any use?"
"What do you want then?"
Mo Yutong didn’t know how to react for a moment. She truly owed Liszt an apology, but then she thought, wasn’t it he who sent her here?
Her attitude toughened a little.
"This is your own doing. Don’t blame me."
Despite this, Mo Yutong still felt a bit guilty. The sensation she experienced when Dreya drank her blood was something new and odd, and remembering it, her cheeks flushed scarlet.
Liszt was baffled. What in the world were you thinking, damn it! But he noticed her guilt and just calmly watched her, saying nothing.
Mo Yutong pretended not to see and opened her book to continue reading.
"Your book is upside down."
"Damn it... What on earth do you want? If it comes to it...then fine, just make me public property...the Emperor of Rome, what’s the big deal."
Mo Yutong blurted the ultimate explosive statement that only those in their tight social media circles would understand.
"You really are a fellow alumni."
Liszt took Mo Yutong’s hand, which she did not pull away.
Originally, Liszt was there to discuss serious matters, but then he thought if he went on, wouldn’t it ruin everything? He had to act while the feeling was still there and immediately start the experiment.
"Well, then, some preparation is necessary."
"What kind of preparation?"
"If the time comes... you know, you might feel some resistance. Try it out beforehand to see if you can accept it. This way... you’ll know your boundaries."
Liszt, too, calmly uttered another explosive statement.
At this, Mo Yutong truly resembled a cartoon character, her face red as if steam were about to burst forth.
