Chapter 189: CLXXXIX. Dangerous Game

Standing on the roof of the car, Liszt’s field of vision was exceptionally wide, and the fierce wind had even flipped open a button on his shirt, with his bandana and the hem of his clothes fluttering noisily.

Liszt’s physical fitness had reached the upper limits of humanity; an ordinary person standing here would have been blown over.

And at this moment, Liszt saw the true face of what was so-called a Magic Puppet.

It was not any kind of cyber-style delicate machinery, but rather something as fierce and bulky as a diesel punk from a wasteland.

Apart from the ones standing on the connection platform of the carriage, there were also eight patrolling on the roof.

They were two and a half meters tall, about a meter wide, with arms thicker than a human’s waist, and a rough iron body even slightly bloated. Their backs and left arms were connected to wrinkled translucent tubes, filled with a spilling azure fog that seemed to be the source of their strength.

They lacked human limbs, with the left arm being a horrific cannon and the right arm a giant blade.

Their core was hidden in the thickest part of their breastplate, with the head being just a blue crystal.

Liszt not only saw the Mechanical Demon Puppets but also Fen. He was at the very front of the train, dueling with an old man dressed in a black officer’s uniform.

It was the conductor of the Pioneer, Joshua.

Above the second carriage.

The Senluo Death Technique·Sixth Rank had been unleashed, with the upper body garments already shed, revealing dense, obscure celestial tattoos and malevolent spell inscriptions.

Fen’s black hair danced in the gale, as he threw a punch.

A river of wailing souls surged along with Fen’s swing, their shrill screams and the oppressive spell power briefly causing the surrounding Magic Puppets to malfunction.

However, this man named Joshua was also a master of Magic Techniques.

But his Magic was extremely bizarre.

Fen recognized this kind of Magic; it was only recorded in books, and he had never expected to see the real deal.

Joshua was not any kind of upright figure either.

The Magic he used could also be classified as a type of Spell.

Arcane and Spell were different.

The former followed the objective laws of things and was an empirical thing that could be summarized and concluded.

While the latter was more peculiar, not limited to Necromancy, but also including curses, Black Magic, and Evil Power, often requiring a high price to cast, even betraying universal values.

Conductor Joshua’s Magic could be categorized as a branch of Spells centered on Evil Power, drawing Evil Power from a distant spiritual consciousness, more refined than arcane ether and with more destructive force.

This was a kind of Magic called "Evil Power Shaping," and, compared to the hard-to-stabilize and volatile arcane ether, this Evil Power Secret Power could take on many forms.

Joshua himself didn’t carry any weapons; his left hand held a briefcase while he summoned Magic with Evil Power appearing in his palm.

He raised his palm.

The oppressive force of the spell surged, a wisp of ghostly green flame shot from the center of his palm, quickly flickering a few times, and then a more than two-meter-long Evil Power Flame Column, constantly eroding with the smog of Evil Power long enough to hang clothes on, was already grasped in his right hand.

"Open!"

Instead of using the Evil Power Flame Column to slash at the oncoming river of souls, he simply closed his eyes in meditation, with a hood-like force of ghastly green Evil Power erupting from him as the center.

The outer shell of the carriage beneath Joshua’s feet sank slightly, forming a pit over a meter in diameter.

In an instant, the river of souls was shattered by this Evil Power, dissipating into countless dark purple fragments that vanished into the fierce wind.

With a casual flick of his right hand, the Evil Power Flame Column suddenly morphed into a whip tens of meters long, lashing towards Fen’s body with a cracking sound that split the rushing wind, incredibly swift.

"It’s over."

Liszt was at this time hundreds of meters away from Fen, separated by seven or eight carriages; he simply couldn’t get there in time.

Bang!

Fen was directly whipped into shreds by the Evil Power Whip, turning into countless purple specks that scattered away.

Joshua’s brows furrowed tightly; this was just a Spiritual Body, not some wild Jianghu Mage. This entity had considerable origins, the Spiritual Body able to reach a level of deception indistinguishable from reality, even capable of Shifting, had he been played?

Liszt had no time for unfocused thoughts.

The two Magic Puppets on the roof of the train had already launched their attack on him.

One of them raised its cannon arm, the Magic Power converging within the barrel. A bright blue dot rapidly gathered, then condensed into a missile of terrifying lethality, shooting straight at Liszt.

Liszt had summoned the Junlin Sword in his left hand, holding it vertically to guard in front and slash diagonally, splitting the missile, which was larger than a soccer ball, in two.

But the horrendous destructive power, even split in half, did not dissipate; it grazed the sleeves of Liszt’s arms, shredding them to pieces, and grazing his skin as well, causing blood to gush forth.

A black and red mist emanated from the wounds, and in an instant, they healed.

Another Magic Puppet struck from behind with its rough iron spike blade. The shadow of a sword, a black ghostly fog, blocked it. Liszt struck back, the supremely sharp Junlin Sword cutting the Magic Puppet in half at the waist. The cut was smooth as could be, the body falling diagonally to the ground, revealing its dazzling core.

Liszt struck down twice more, completely destroying the source of the Magic Puppet’s power.

Gawain and Swan had also arrived on the rooftop.

It was taboo to engage in close combat with these Magic Puppets. If they fought at the train’s coupling platforms with short weapons, the Magic Puppets were too resilient and their attacks too strong. It was only because the Junlin Sword was so formidable. If one of those dark cannon muzzles fired at close range, no one could withstand it.

Moving onto other train cars would be best done from the rooftop.

"I’ll deal with the Magic Puppets, advance toward the train head."

Liszt ran across the rooftop.

Gawain took a deep, rough breath. It was a deadly game being played, dangerously close to the edge.

Joshua had also spotted the three of them, but now was not the time to resolve this. He had to secure the train’s head. He used his Evil Power Whip to tear open a gap on the roof and jumped down.

He had to kill that Magician, to ensure no problems arose with the power source. They must dash nonstop through the uninhabited zone to reach the location of Aran’s armed forces.

This group was doomed, all destined for the gallows.

At that very moment, outside of the 20th train car.

Click! Click!

The long spear’s cold arc light was swift. Grim moved with ease at the platform between the cars, piercing through the heads of two Magic Puppets. The blue crystals shattered instantly, losing their brilliance.

Yet, the cores weren’t damaged, and undiscriminating orders kept them attacking Grim.

But to no avail.

With a spear in each hand, Grim moved like a machine in motion, the excessively fast trajectory creating patterns like geometric figures.

After countless thrusts, the two heavy iron masses, regardless of whether their cores were damaged, had their limbs shattered and completely lost their support.

Then the hundreds of pounds of body weight were kicked off the train by Grim.

Clang! Clang!

The sounds were too violent, frightening to hear; it was steel, but if it were a person falling, they’d be stripped to the skeleton.

The door at the end of the 19th car was opened.

Morison stepped out, ready to move onto the 21st car to clear out the Magic Puppets.

They locked eyes.

Grim had no intention of fighting him, as his spear swept toward the massive coupling of the joint alloy.

Clang!

It was entirely ineffective; the pitch-black alloy merely sported a superficial scratch.

While the outer shell of the car was just ordinary steel, the important functional components of the coaches were the utmost masterpieces of the court’s Alchemists, spent heart and soul on, extremely hard.

Grim furrowed his brows; it appeared there was only one way...

To completely annihilate the enemies on the train!

Starting with this disfigured face!

Although Morison wore a mask, part of his left face was exposed.

Sensing that overwhelming presence of mountains of corpses and seas of blood.

"Ho?"

Morison raised his hand and fired a shot as a sign of respect.
