Chapter 163: CLXIII. Kidnapping
"Duke, this way please."
The organizer’s staff said to Mr. Sefer with utmost respect, for he was a Great Noble from the Southeast Province, and could not be neglected.
Mr. Sefer was not here to purchase anything; his home’s collection was vast, and it was necessary to clear some for business purposes.
He was not a person of extravagance from Duguli, dressing quite modestly in inexpensive casual clothes, and using a cane only lightly plated with silver. His hair was greying, showing he was middle-aged.
Beside him stood a pretty young woman, dressed much more lavishly; it was hard to tell if she was his wife or his daughter.
He was also followed by a fierce-looking confidant, serving as a bodyguard.
After the Lord’s Bill was enacted,
Sefer’s father was the most impacted.
With their family’s strength, they could have easily become a Feudal Official, wielding great power, and wealth was no issue. They owned nearly half the province; such things were merely numbers to them, enjoying the world’s top power.
Unfortunately, after the enactment of the Lord’s Bill, there was a power reshuffle—no one could compete with the Emperor.
His status plummeted, no longer able to levy taxes or keep troops—how could that still be called a Lord? He was merely a manager.
This Duke was now in name only, much like all the nobles in Aran who had transformed into influential landowners with certain privileges.
But Sefer did not mind, he was already content. His current inheritance could ruin several more generations.
As Liszt and his group rounded the corner,
Sefer’s luck proved dreadful; he just missed them.
Consequently, they failed to find Sefer all morning, only managing to get closer to the nouveau riche by boasting, leaving no choice but to wait for the auction at two in the afternoon.
Come lunchtime,
under Swan’s excellent professionalism, and Liszt’s captivating Transformation Skill, the nouveau riche insisted on having lunch with Liszt’s group.
Already upgraded to old friends, he had no idea that this group belonged to the Triad Gang, and that they were about to undertake tough tasks.
Since the private exhibition area was intended for business activities, facilities were readily available. The mornings were for major landowners to make their selections, and there was a banquet at noon—an event hosted by the organizers.
Though a banquet,
they were all in individual rooms, just a simple meal and rest. It was more appropriate to call it a guest feast. Gathering these individuals together and sharing secrets would hardly make any money.
Needless to say, the interior decor was up to par, featuring the long standard tables of the Western Continent, all the furnishings were well considered.
The group wandered the banquet hall’s corridor, looking for a spacious area to resolve their lunch situation.
Unexpectedly,
Swan, with his incredibly keen eyes, spotted Sefer in the corridor—it was undeniably him. He whispered into Liszt’s ear.
Liszt had already obtained Sefer’s portrait, cut out from the ’Aran Epoch Weekly’ newspaper after flipping through many issues, and found it in a paper two years old.
Such Great Nobles always left portraits behind, obtainable not only from newspapers but other means as well.
The ’Aran Epoch Weekly’ was far more formal than publications from the adventurer’s guild, being one of the highest-selling newspapers within the territory of Aran.
"You three sit first; we have some matters to handle."
Liszt said to the nouveau riche.
"What is the matter? Is it urgent? Maybe I can help."
The nouveau riche highly appreciated the artistic skills of Liszt and Swan. By sticking around them, wouldn’t he gain some taste as well?
Liszt was secretly amused—should he say they were going to kidnap someone, and ask for help?
"It’s nothing major for you to worry about."
Liszt replied evasively.
Having said that, the nouveau riche could not probe further but insisted they join him once they were done.
In the slightly dim corridor,
Liszt said to Swan, "This seems like the most suitable place to make a move."
The plan was very simple.
Swan sedated Sefer and his entourage, dragging away only Mr. Sefer after rendering him unconscious. He then disguised him, altering his appearance to look like an ordinary person and boldly dragged him out.
Swan was the main force behind the plan.
But the others couldn’t just stand by idly in case of unexpected events. They needed to be vigilant and ready to fight at any moment.
Sefer brought only two people with him, one of whom was a delicate-looking woman with soft, pale skin who was clearly not suited for combat. The other might have been a tough character—they needed to be extra cautious around him.
The group trailed Sefer and his company to the private room they entered but didn’t act recklessly, Liszt pretended to chat casually with the others around the corner.
Meanwhile, Swan kept observing, waiting for the right moment, when the food was served.
These nobles were particular about their meals, dividing them into appetizers and main courses.
As the waiter approached with a cart headed for Sefer’s room,
Swan had already formed a plan.
The rest of the group coordinated with him.
The sedatives were not just in gas form—they needed different types for different situations, and of course, oral ones were required this time.
Mika had already prepared them.
Liszt and his group blocked the path while Morison bumped into the waiter, almost knocking him to the ground.
And in the private section, all the guests were nobles.
The waiter couldn’t afford to get angry.
"Oh, I’m really sorry, I was caught up discussing something and didn’t notice,"
Liszt and the others distracted the waiter.
Swan swiftly drugged the food, heavily dosing each dish—ensuring it wouldn’t go unnoticed.
After completing their task, the group hid around the corner to await the outcome.
Meredith was exceedingly out of sorts, having never done something so despicable. Ashamed, she grew agitated, her skin flushing slightly as her temperature seemed to rise.
Lu, hidden in her pocket, could hear Meredith’s quickened heartbeat. These people truly deserved to die—they had now dragged everyone down with them.
"Gawain" and "Weber" had also shown up by now. If the matter was exposed, they would become wanted criminals.
Three minutes later.
The waiter pushed the cart out of Sefer’s room and closed the door.
Everyone held their breath in suspense. Swan was already by the door, listening to the sounds inside, waiting for the drug to take effect.
Another two minutes passed.
"My daughter, what’s wrong?" Sefer then said, "You too..."
Before he could finish,
Swan pushed open the door and rushed in. Liszt and the others immediately followed, locking the door behind them.
Sefer gaped at the intruders, too shocked to speak. His confidant and daughter had already been laid out across the long table, some dishes overturned in the process.
Because he was preoccupied and had no appetite, he hadn’t been affected.
Sefer attempted to shout.
But Swan wouldn’t give him the chance. A dagger was already at his throat, the sharp blade drawing a trace of blood, a preliminary warning that he was indeed willing to kill.
Sefer dared not even swallow, sweat beading on his forehead.
"Should we knock him out, too?"
Swan asked.
"No need, let’s get Mr. Sefer made up first. Listen closely—if you move, I’ll kill your whole family, starting with your daughter."
Liszt’s expression was cold and merciless. He took a dagger from Swan, sliding the blade across his daughter’s face with deadly seriousness.
Sefer had no choice but to comply.
