Chapter 156: CLVI. Address Book
Meredith groggily opened her eyes. To treat her wounds, her armor had been removed, Mika had just stitched her up simply—the wound on her abdomen wasn’t deep.
But the current scene was too bizarre. That despicable Pharmacist was treating Gawain and Weber, for reasons beyond imagination.
Lu, confined beneath a glass cup, was overjoyed to see her awake. It was great that everyone was fine, but who knew what this bunch from the Triad Gang were planning? Human trafficking maybe?
Meredith found her hands and feet bound with hemp rope, but she was too weak to struggle free.
"What do you mean by this?"
She had a very ominous premonition. She was quite well-known among the adventurers; it was not unthinkable that she might be sold off somewhere.
That man with the disfigured face just sat there silently. Her head throbbed with pain as she recalled the recent events and shuddered at the thought of such people becoming pirates—or joining the Aran Imperial Knights without any problems.
The Emperor valued martial prowess, offering redemption through meritorious deeds. As long as one hadn’t committed a great sin that outraged both gods and men, pardon was possible.
"He Transmutes Freedom Method, activate!"
"Sister, the old saying goes, ’no fight, no acquaintance.’ We pirates are all damned, so it’s only fair if someone cuts us."
Liszt was smoking a cigarette.
These people were undeniably strong, but Brother Sha was too ferocious. He once again revised his opinion of him. This time, Brother Sha had still not used his full force, remained unhurt, and handled everything with ease.
But Liszt also felt uneasy. Morison was the only one on the ship with an unclear background. Liszt had inquired about him. Indeed, Morison had been a renowned swordsman not so long ago, but that was only for two or three years; anything earlier than that remained a mystery.
This man’s desires were unknown, his likes were unknown; he didn’t crave power, seemed vaguely interested in everything, yet not very invested in anything.
Meaning wrapped in mystery like a vast swamp.
Liszt couldn’t figure it out, so he simply stopped thinking about it.
"There you go with the auspicious sayings again."
Morison gave a skin-deep smile, eyeing Lu intently. Such a rare specimen was too precious; he had never seen anything like it and had to study it closely.
Lu felt goosebumps all over from his stare.
"Who’s your sister? Don’t think you can act the big brother by braiding your beard. You’re barely in your twenties, stop posing."
Meredith was unforgiving, her expression as cold as ice. She was a prisoner, and stooping low would leave her at others’ mercy, ripe for slaughter. It was better to be hard and get it over with quickly.
Considering the pirate’s ways, her end might be extremely miserable—locked in the dark hull of the ship, better off dead than alive.
"But you’ve got some self-awareness, knowing you deserve to be cut a thousand times. You’re all straightforward folk, so make it quick."
Meredith looked down on Liszt with contempt, tilting her head back and stretching out her neck as if she was ready for the executioner.
Liszt clicked his tongue in amazement. This big sister was wild.
"Damn, she’s got that kind of personality that stands out. Captain, you got Goria through despicable means and incurred the wrath of many. You better not cross the line again this time."
Mika, of course, thought it wouldn’t matter if the two men died, but this black-haired big sister was something else—good-looking with a tattoo on her face that added character. She definitely needed to be well cared for; after all, a doctor should be humane.
"God damn public outrage."
Liszt was speechless.
"Swan and Morison are here too. You guys weigh in on this. If you play dirty again, I’ll start an impeachment."
Mika’s expression was grave. They couldn’t compromise on this one issue—the He Transmutes Freedom Method would be forbidden.
"No, I don’t care."
Swan said casually.
"I don’t mind either."
Morison was moving the glass cup, lightly tapping Lu with the edge of the cup. The person the size of a fingertip fell over, glaring at Morison in immense anger.
"Hehe, hail understanding, here comes the chicken soup of wisdom!"
Mika, as if he had lost his mind, laughed at himself for being the fool. The treatment was over, and he rushed out the door to meet today’s quota.
Swan, as a Thief, sometimes did interrogation work. The woman’s gaze had noticeably flickered, her pupils constricted when Goria was mentioned earlier. She was clearly shocked.
Could she have some connection to Goria?
Just as Swan was about to open his mouth to ask a question,
Meredith’s eyes faintly brimmed with bloodshot veins. There were many with the same name, but considering Goria had recently vanished without a trace, and putting the pieces together, she suddenly became as if injected with adrenaline. She struggled vigorously against the hemp ropes binding her to the chair, causing the chair legs to shake.
Like she had gone mad.
"What have you done to Goria!"
Meredith couldn’t bear to imagine what those scum of the East Sea Domain would do to a woman who fell into their hands; what inhuman acts they could commit.
"Why are you yelling so loudly?"
Liszt was also somewhat stunned. Were these two women sisters? Did they share a blood relationship?
"I will never let you go, even as a ghost."
Meredith gritted her teeth in anger. No wonder Goria had completely lost contact and had been expelled from the guild, disappearing from the world as if she had evaporated, unreachable for months.
I thought she was deliberately avoiding me, perhaps got together with some other woman and had retired to a life of peace.
I was truly foolish, really.
It wasn’t what I had thought at all; she hadn’t betrayed me but had been victimized.
"Wait! Are we talking about the same person? Pale blue hair, Moon Wheel Knight, that ’Goddess of the Year’ thing."
Liszt was speechless.
Meredith was silent; if looks could kill, Liszt would have died ten thousand times over.
"To know Goria, you must be quite prominent in your field. Rest assured, she is doing well now. Don’t listen to that doctor’s nonsense, that sister who dealt with neodymium copper, she’s living the good life now. Are pirates’ reputations really that foul? I surrender. Can’t there be well-mannered, intellectually and physically developed gentlemen among pirates? We are all high-end individuals. We don’t do forceful acts; it just makes us all seem foolish."
Liszt saw what the woman was worried about and wondered if she was still in contact with Goria? Wasn’t that woman firmly settled on the island now?
"You..."
Meredith wanted to say he was lying, but she desperately hoped it was true.
"Is it true?"
She was actually asking herself.
"If you don’t believe me, I’ll take you to see her after a while when her injuries are better. I’ll hand over your weapons; I’ll hold them to your neck until you see her safe and sound, okay?"
Liszt nodded; his Transformation Skill began to operate, brushing up goodwill, then framing and shirking responsibility, followed by hijacking a train as an Oath of Loyalty, a one-stop service, wouldn’t that be perfect?
With this woman leading the way, the other two had no choice but to commit to the East Sea.
"What exactly are you plotting?"
Meredith couldn’t comprehend Liszt’s purpose, her mind filled with doubts and a mix of emotions, all jumbled up.
"Of course, I do have a purpose. I’m short on hands recently and need help, the more the merrier. You guys are quite capable; it would be a pity if you died."
Liszt got straight to the point.
"Work for you? As a pirate?"
Meredith was disdainful.
As prisoners at the moment, Liszt could naturally say whatever he wanted. If they couldn’t come to terms, it was no big deal to kill them. It was quite normal for bounty hunters and pirates to kill each other without losing any righteousness.
"Recently, we’re going to rob a trial passenger train, then return to Heaven Port to establish a nation."
Liszt said casually.
Meredith’s mind went blank. Gawain had mentioned these people had come all the way from the Great Wetland with a grand mission. Was this... really happening?
"What’s your relationship with Goria?"
Liszt was extremely curious as he picked up a bottle of wine and took a drink.
Meredith’s mind still hadn’t caught up, and she subconsciously answered, "She’s my lover."
Liszt sprayed out all the wine in his mouth.
Damn it, he had just stirred up a hornet’s nest.
