Chapter 143: CXLIII. Here Comes the Sword
The burning coastal village reflected a blood-red sky, with tall dark shadows in the fire resembling ghosts, their limbs as segmented as bamboo bugs, and the executioner draped in black chain mail headgear, with eye sockets like black whirlpools.
He wielded an iron axe with a handle three meters long,
already swinging it towards his face.
He had no choice but to become a desperado, just as everyone... in the end,
had no choice but to die.
Great Wetland waystation’s inn.
Liszt awoke abruptly from the nightmare, sitting up suddenly as if he could still feel that agonizing pain of imminent death, a sensation of being bisected right through the middle of his head, his bones halved, gasping deep as if choked for ten thousand years, his chest heaving violently, back drenched in cold sweat.
It was already the next morning.
Claude had woken up long ago, his military efficiency had already packed up all luggage, looking at Liszt with a slight astonishment.
"It’s nothing, perfectly normal, he always dreams a lot."
Fen was long since accustomed to it, believing that if Liszt said he visited the Main God Space every night in his sleep, he would.
Only in these last few years had Rein risen up, merging insights, knowing his own abstraction as clearly as if looking in a mirror, that Liszt began to rein himself in.
In the first few years, he was utterly insane, goddamn magnetic fields spinning a million horses of brocade illusion.
Fen’s understanding had long grasped the essence of all contextual meanings.
After packing up their gear, Claude, as the boatswain, went to check on the pirates, Old Aran’s traditional military training was already in effect, though it was somewhat lacking compared to experienced soldiers, they were at least trained enough to be a decent match for thieves.
Claude wasn’t boarding the ship alone; more than twenty elite warriors joined him, seasoned veterans from the battlefield, who could easily downsize and outmatch any wild, underhanded street tactics.
The twenty-plus had been completely corrupted by their time in Heaven Port; there were some tough jobs only the prostitutes of Heaven Port dared to handle.
What proper person would play the fool? Without someone experienced to lead the novices, they would stay mediocre for life; pirates were much preferable.
This time ten joined them; the rest remained on the ship, where Claude trusted them to keep watch.
Although dawn broke early here, the moist mist also made it seem dark and gloomy, as though dawn had yet to break.
Soon everyone gathered outside the inn, leading out their mounts one by one from the stables.
But Liszt noticed something very peculiar.
He didn’t know what had happened.
Not just Rein and Shadi, even Morison was carrying Mika’s luggage and medical box, as if Mika had become the leader of the three.
"How is it?"
Rein asked, extremely curious; Mika had only returned in the middle of last night, there were no brothel services here, and no whore dared venture this way.
Mika was quite picky; his demands were exceptionally high.
But without experiencing every type, life always felt like it had a missing piece, like all master gamers, who in the end just become boring operations of number crunching and rote memorization.
Mika was the same, already the supreme being of humanity, he had transformed into a stamp collector, one step away from transcending as an Immortal.
Mika sought proof through death.
Countless Sword Immortals in Heaven and they too would bow before him.
And so, he negotiated with a delicate White Scale Subdragon Lady waitress at the inn, and under a heavy gold offensive, even a decent family came to an agreement.
One sword strike!
Sky Opening Gate!
Who among the Immortals dares to descend to this mortal realm?
"What exactly is it like!"
Shadi was impatient, this was beyond cognitive realm, the domain of Immortals.
Morison, too, looked forward to Mika’s assessment, waiting for the chance to observe the Immortal Emperor Scripture at the end of the Boundary Sea, in the Heavenly Land.
Mika just picked up his medicine box and mounted his horse.
Above Heaven, the cycle cannot be overturned.
He said indifferently, "It’s quite warm."
All three were greatly shocked, such high praise! Truly befitting the Immortal Emperor Scripture! So succinct and to the point!
He had now become the Whoring God, the conqueror of the world.
Mika Haimer.
No wonder some Noble Masters would keep Sub-dragon people as Maids, truly knowing how to live.
Rein swallowed hard, thinking, why not give it a try himself?
Liszt had no idea what these people were up to; he guessed Mika must have been up to something last night.
"There’s no time to lose, we must hurry on our way."
Liszt also had to go to the Southeast Province for a side quest, but of course, he couldn’t just rush over like a fool; what if Mr. Sefer wasn’t there? That would be a wasted trip.
Once near Aran, he would first go to the adventurer’s guild to inquire and try to get Mr. Sefer’s schedule, and while there, he might as well send a letter to Sharon living in the Imperial Diocese in Aran Imperial City, see if she could squeeze in a trip to Yunxi City to discuss matters in person, as that was the only way to clarify things quickly, with rapid information exchange.
Otherwise, if you say one word in twenty days, and I respond in another twenty days, the world would end before we’ve sorted things out.
After getting everything ready, he set out with the two guides from the park, with horses’ hooves thundering, heading straight for the border.
Bounty Hunter Gawain rode along as well, keeping Lu secure in his embrace.
The adventurer’s guild was open 24 hours; he had already sent a letter the previous night, having his friends from different places rush to the southern part of Aran. He didn’t know the destination of the group of people he was to follow, but it was worth trailing such big fish even if it took two or three months.
"That’s despicable! Shameless! To actually drag... a decent family into this, just two Golden Dragons and you’ve ruined a good family’s fortune!"
Lu was quite indignant, having witnessed this scene in the deserted inn lobby late at night.
Gawain was silent; for two Golden Dragons, not just an inn server, even a university student from a prestigious school would take the offer, not to mention others who desired it but couldn’t. It was basically social assistance.
On the chase.
Gawain followed behind the Black Sail and his group, experienced in tailing, even getting ahead of them first to blend in with a familiar face, then slowing down later.
Through observation and inquiries, he found out that the ones leading the way were from the local area, from Red Tree Bay Shore, which confirmed the rough path. As for the routes used for smuggling medicinal herbs, Gawain was very clear about them, having been mixed up in the Great Wetland for so long.
Lu clung to the edge of Gawain’s inner jacket pocket, which was for her a spacious area.
"With your connections, do you have any Hall-level adventurers among your friends?"
Lu asked curiously, her gaze filled with longing. She had seen a few Heroic Level ones, but Hall-level were legendary figures, some active and uninvolved in worldly affairs, each able to influence the continent’s situation.
It was also because of these individuals that the adventurer’s guild was able to establish a strong presence across many countries and attract countless passionate youths to join and embark on an epic dream journey.
"What are you thinking about? Would people of that level do Bounty Hunter tasks?"
Gawain casually cut through a huge insect flying in the middle of the road with a sword, speaking calmly.
"Sigh, so did you call for Sister Meredith? I love her the most."
Lu was ecstatic, a Heroic Level adventurer and a rather rare Demon Swordsman, a very cool elder sister with high academic credentials, excelling in both arts and combat, and generously kind, a true dream woman, a role model for women.
"I’ve called everyone I could."
Gawain disclosed everything to Lu. Even if ten people shared it, each could get away with a fortune of a few hundred Golden Dragons, it was a success that cannot afford to fail.
