[BL] Accidentally Becoming the Healer of the Deranged Archduke -
Chapter 315: Forgive Me, For I Have Sinned
Chapter 315: Forgive Me, For I Have Sinned
"You all should leave. Take those ox carts and go home," Xion said, tossing a lighter into the goblet.
The flame roared to life as it touched the crimson.
The blood-soaked tongue, bloated and grotesque, thrashed against the metal rim, shrieking in agony as the flames started to devour it.
A sickening sizzle filled the air.
The people could only watch in stunned silence.
Some had still clung to hope that Saintess Talia would explain. Maybe this was all a misunderstanding? But now, watching that thing burn, they finally accepted the truth.
She had nothing to say at all.
A few bold ones inched toward the exit with wary, darting eyes. And the crowd slowly followed behind them.
Orren, half-laughing in disbelief that he was still alive, sat on the cold floor.
"Old man, you should leave too," Xion said gently while motioning to the doors. "I hope you live a happy life with your son."
Orren shakily pulled himself to his feet. He opened his mouth to thank Xion when something cracked.
A sound like stone grinding against stone tore through the chamber.
Xion froze. And so did everyone else in the vicinity.
The towering statue behind them, which should have been just a lifeless stone, moved.
Its fingers twitched. With a slow, stomach-turning creak, the neck of the statue turned around, locking its empty maw directly onto them.
"No..." Xion whispered, spinning around.
But it was too late.
Its massive arms reached forward like a striking serpent, and in one clean, swift movement, it snatched Orren.
"Ah!!!"
Orren didn’t even have time to scream when the stone jaws inched closer. With a sickening crack, it revealed rows of jagged, bloodstained teeth as they clamped down hard.
Crunch.
Orren’s torso vanished in a single bite. The second morsel took away his legs. Bones and all.
Blood rained across Xion’s face, soaking him in red.
That was the moment before the chaos erupted.
Screams tore through the crowd like wildfire. People ran, slamming into one another, hammering fists against the heavy doors.
But the guards, still under the lingering effects of Talia’s manipulation, stood in their way. They blocked all the small exits with their swords, tossing the people back inside the hall.
The scent of blood, sweat, and fear thickened the air. Even grown men cried.
A guttural sound tore through the throat of the statue before it lunged for the small child in tattered robes.
Xion watched in horror as another life was taken away. It was then a sweet voice rang in his ears.
"I didn’t expect you to have the same blessing as me."
Talia stood tall. Her golden hair was untouched, and her robe was unsoiled as if the mass murder around her had nothing to do with her at all.
She smiled, tilting her head like a curious cat examining a bird with clipped wings.
"You silenced me. Clever. But I have plenty of sacrifices still. I will spare you if you join me, Xion. We can rule this world together."
She stretched out her hand like it was a divine gift, asking him to kiss it as one would to pledge their loyalty.
"Grief eats us both. The only difference is that I’ve made peace with it. And you are still too naive," she cooed. "We’re the same, Xion. You just haven’t accepted it yet."
Xion snarled, "You and I are nothing alike. You’re disgusting!"
With a heavy push, he threw the bloodstained blanket at her smug face before turning away. He didn’t want to spare even a glance at her.
’System,’ he yelled in his mind, ’summon the Level 3 combustion core.’
[Warning: Host’s body is nearing collapse... Host!]
’Do it!’
The silver orb materialized in his hand, pulsing with volatile energy. Xion clenched it tightly while pushing his mana into it.
With heat searing his palm, he ran toward the two huge sealed gates.
Without a second thought, he hurled the mana-activated core and blasted the barricade into smoking fragments.
His head was struck by flying debris. Instantly, thick blood streamed down his forehead, almost blurring his vision.
Just like him, a few people were caught in the blast, but he didn’t have time to worry about them.
As he ran with all his might, the crowd poured out after him like water through a broken dam.
Behind them, the creature howled in hunger. Its claws raked against the walls, clawing at the guards and devouring them.
The loud screams filled the air.
Xion’s leg wobbled, but he forced himself to reach past the outer metal gates. With a forceful yank, he threw a small kid toward the burly man who was running beside him.
Luckily, the burly man caught the kid, allowing Xion a breath of relief.
Pressing his back to the broken trunk of the tree, he gasped heavily.
It was then he noticed that the statue wasn’t following them. It couldn’t leave the hall. Or rather, it was confined to the runes etched on the floor.
As he gazed at the few people holding their torn limbs, a rustic bitterness emerged on his tongue. He finally couldn’t hold it back any longer.
A bloody mess poured from his throat, dirtying the tiny grass blades.
[Host! I told you not to use potions so indiscriminately! It will have a bad impact on you! Even your healing is useless against it!]
That was why it had asked Xion to take a proper rest for a few days. Looking at the increasingly pale face, the system panicked even more. [Host, hide somewhere, please.]
Ignoring the pleading in his ears, Xion calmly waited. When the last remaining woman rushed out of the metallic gates, he decided to end it all for good.
He was tired of Talia, tired of the church and its shams.
Despite the system’s warning that the weapon would have a recoiling effect on his body, he bought a B-level grenade with an area recognition function.
Gathering the last bit of strength in his nearly rusted fingers, he flung it inside the gates.
The white mana wrapping around the small grenade accelerated its speed.

BOOM!
The earth trembled.
A sound like a sky shattering roared through the forest surrounding the church.
The Judgment Hall exploded along with everyone inside. Flames spewed from through the broken roof. It engulfed the two broken pieces of wood where the slogan of the church was etched.
The stone shattered like glass and the statue’s agonizing shriek howled in the night.
From a distance, Xion watched the hideous sculpture crumble under the force of the blast.
Solwy the ear-splitting roaring of the monster vanished into the night.
The dark sky was lit orange by the inferno. Smoke billowed around him, trapping him as he forced himself to stand still.
People clung to one another, some sobbing, others collapsing in the frozen grass. They were alive but too stunned to comprehend what had happened.
Amidst their sobbing, Xion stood alone. Watching the flames rise higher, he saw the embers illuminate the remains of the once-present church.
"Forgive me, for I’ve sinned," he whispered as the firelight flickered in his weary eyes. "I’ve killed people."
Not only had he killed the royal princess, but he had also slaughtered all those guards.
There’d be no forgiveness for that.
The stars started to dance in his eyes as his vision dulled. Just before the darkness took him, he glimpsed something silver rushing straight toward him.
