Chapter 298: The Dark Night And The Shimmering Moon

Chapter 298: The Dark Night And The Shimmering Moon

Wrapped in layered robes of shimmering silver-blue, Xion looked like winter personified.

His outer coat, lined with soft white fox fur, brushed gently against his slightly flushed cheeks.

Jewels were embroidered into his garments, and delicate chains adorned his swan-like neck and slender fingers.

His thin waist was cinched with special golden chains that jingled slightly with each step.

Yet none could rival the sheer beauty of his deep blue eyes that seemed to hold the entire world in them.

When Xion looked at the attendees with his usual smile, they couldn’t help but stammer in response.

It felt as though Xion was truly looking at them—not at their clothes or social standing, but at them. If one stared at you with such a pure gaze, how could their heart not beat?

They all collectively thought that it wasn’t that Xion got lucky as the ministers had been saying. On the contrary, it was their lord, the Archduke, who somehow managed to snatch the blessing of the goddess.

Darius was the lucky one.

With that thought, their actions to make Xion look the most gorgeous being intensified.

As sand trickled down the slender neck of the hourglass, the moment to be escorted arrived.

Xion had been told that due to the urgency of the marriage, there weren’t many people who were invited.

Fewer people meant less trouble. With that mentality, he followed the knight commander, who respectfully took him to the venue.

At his left walked Noxian, his usually tousled hair neatly styled to resemble that of a young nobleman.

Even without asking Xion could tell that this kid was trying to dress as a noble knight.

Dressed in a high-collared white robe, with golden embroidery on the cuffs and collar, Noxian suddenly looked taller than before. With his broad shoulders, and his waist clinched with a golden sash, he should have appeared mature.

But that silly booming smile on his face made him more like a little prince with a sunny smile than a dignified knight.

Noticing his gaze, Noxian turned to look, his purple hair bouncing along with his sudden actions. Without wasting a second, a bright smile appeared on his face.

Xion couldn’t help but laugh as he patted the puppy’s curls. Really like a sunny child.

He shook his head at the confused look on the child’s face and then sighed.

He had been trying to distract himself, trying to remain focused. Still, something within him remained disoriented. The sweat on his palms had started to worry him a bit.

Without much thought, he rubbed it against the expensive robe that felt heavy on his shoulders.

It felt unnatural to him.

I’ve never felt this way before, he thought silently as he moved his feet on the carpet-covered ground. First right and then left, placing in front of the other, one at a time.

He felt both lightheaded and giddy. Was he straining himself? Perhaps yes.

But could he stop himself from worrying about getting his feet entangled in the carpet and kissing the floor right in front of all the guests who were waiting just across those huge closed doors? Absolutely no.

"Brother," Noxian leaned closer to his ears and whispered like a thief. "You look so stunningly handsome. I bet your lover will get a heat stroke right on the spot."

Xion’s lips twitched. Well, he had only himself to blame for teaching Noxian such strange turns of phrase.

He couldn’t help it when his modern soul would take control of his tongue. Thinking about all the strange idioms Noxian had taught him, his smile widened slightly.

Nonetheless, the purple-haired brat wasn’t done yet. His closeness made Ray’s grip clench on the sword handle, but there was not a single change in his dignified expression.

"What if he ends up embarrassing you? How about we ditch him- Aww!"

Before he could finish his sentence, his forehead was knocked. It wasn’t harsh. Xion was never harsh on him.

The puppy howled, cradling the sore spot. "You are so heartless, brother! You are breaking up with me for the sake of that mistress!"

Xion, "..."

Yes, this was also his fault for letting Noxian read those strange novels.

Stealing a quick glance at Ray, Xion exhaled in relief. If anything, he was afraid of causing trouble for this stupid brother of his and angering Ray was precisely that.

Poor Xion had no idea that by now Ray had gotten used to Noxian complaining about his master. Not only that, he had also started to agree here and there.

It was all the bad influence of this brat! Ray thought in dismay.

So, when they reached the closed doors, the knight commander gave Noxian a look.

’Shut up before I throw you into the barracks.’

Noxian silently snorted and turned his head away.

The back of his head seemed to say, ’Fine. I’ll listen to you this once.’

Xion, on the other hand, blinked. His gaze was steady, his face was devoid of any expression, but his finger curled up.

After taking a deep breath he gave Ray a nod and the closed doors were finally opened.

Due to being in Northern land that was covered with snow every month of the year, it was mostly dim.

Especially this dark castle that seemed to eat the golden lights.

This grand hall wasn’t any different either. Rather due to being on the lower side of the castle, the sun rays barely reached there, making it look utterly gloomy. Or at least, that was Xion’s impression that had changed at this moment.

The Hall of Frosted Light had never looked more radiant.

Hundreds of mana-lit lanterns floated in gentle spirals near the ceiling, casting prismed light over the sacred glass floor.

Red, blue, pink, white—flowers of every hue adorned each corner.

Xion realized that their petals were actually enchanted to shimmer like starlight and to also move whenever someone passed them as if welcoming them.

The grand hall was filled to the brim with guests dressed in lavish clothes and expensive jewels.

They sure were dressed to impress, and yet none of this could hold Xion’s gaze for longer than a second.

The crowd had already parted to make way for the groom, their eyes trailing over Xion’s every move like hawks.

It would have made Xion nervous, afraid even. However, his heart which had started to thud against his ribcage suddenly seemed to find a place it belonged to.

Even the weight of the golden chains clinching around his waist seemed to lessen. He subconsciously walked forward, his polished boots falling on the special path that led to the man standing at the top of the podium.

Darius Rael Darkhelm stood as still as carved stone. Forsaking his favored crimson, today he wore obsidian robes with the same embroidery as Xion’s clothes.

It was as if Night had come to swallow Xion whole.

His broad shoulders were squared beneath carved pauldrons. Silver embroidery traced his sleeves making Darius look like a majestic king.

The long silver hair flowed freely in the air, carrying the regal arrogance of its master.

Xion’s blue eyes were slightly glossy as if caught in some sort of spell as he moved forward.

Suddenly he realized that this was it. This was the end of his wandering between two worlds.

Today was the day of the Archduke’s union. And not even the death of a king could dim its radiance.
